Similar things were said last off season and before Gott’s first season. Actually I would rather have this than writers blowing smoke up our assets. I suspect the defense will be somewhat improved both from a better talent level on defense and a year’s experience for those who will be playing the bulk of the minutes. I have always followed the mantra to be the best beat the best. Sometimes painful to get there but once you do …

“Billy Donovan doesn’t coach like Rick Pitino, nor does Herb Sendek, yet both are former Pitino aides who have had very different levels of success.”

    Ya mean the press noticed?

It is not unreasonable to expect some growth in Cat’s game next season. In the past season I did see quite a bit and with a summer to work on the identified holes in his game on this level he can become awesome. At this point it takes determination and work. I agree the Pack will need that growth in his game.

Brutal? I think not. If it were me in that situation I would want to consider such a life altering decision very carefully. All I want is for TJ to make the right decision for HIM. If that is to stay another year I’m estatic, if it is time to go

Va I agree – good so far but …
I still think this was a very good hire for WFU.

I might up the grade for WFU hiring Manning a bit but not much. One WFU booster I talked with yesterday was happy with the hire but is still wedded to the idea that Wellman must go. He stopped buying any season tickets to any WFU sport a couple years ago in protest of Bzzz and Wellman and is remaining adamant on that. Manning does have a pretty good track record as a head coach, an assistant and of course as a player. I’m not so sure he is being seen as a “local” product even though Greensboro is only a few miles away.

In this era of the one and done every year potentially is a rebuilding year. Cal has managed to surf that wave quite well – even so I am very grateful he did not come to State.

And it is a talking point Gott can’t teach defense but I have seen improvement over the season. Not sure I buy that talking point.

Maybe that someone should also “leak” the 1989 first round ACC game against the Twerps. Only time a #1 seed lost to the last seed …

When K was hired it was an ‘outside the family’ hire. The coach he replaced was an ‘outside the family’ hire. Seems to go back to you can’t be a prophet in your land. Ole Huck, Norn Sloan and Swety Gary seem to be exceptions.

Back in my day on campus (eons ago) Sloan would have a number of transfers at the end of every season. In retrospect it seems he was playing the “waver wire” in most of those cases. V also had some. Not sure this transfer means anything other than a decision by the coaching staff on who will be the starting point guard at the beginning of next season.

I hate to see Tyler leave but it probably is the best for everyone.

I called for his firing after year 5. I will not mention the name but if he were to ever show up in the ACC again I’ll be there to give him hell.

Beyond the obvious partisan stuff this is simply wrong – forget fair play and college athletics but think about those athletes who were used and discarded after they were no longer useful.

I do not pretend to know what is the best for TJ. I do trust him and his dad in that regard. If that means time to go I wish him well. If that means one more year in the ACC I’m good with that as well. Unlike some of our recent early leaves I see good things here regardless.

“Anyone ever stop to think what last season would be like if Purvis stuck around? He’s far superior to his replacement, Dez Lee. Better defender, scorer, shooter. I mean, we would have still sucked…but just saying…losing transfers hurts. ”

Yes a hot mess like his one and only season.

Agreed we should be open to opportunities to upgrade but we also should be very wary. To my way of thinking now is not the time while others might disagree. All I know is this is not your Robinson teams, your Sendek teams or your Lowe teams.
Maybe we could trade up or just maybe that effort puts us in a situation like WF with Bzzz …

At the very least with the money involved he should make himself available. I would not sign a contract with an agent until I had a clearer view of the likely draft status. If he goes (which seems likely) all is well and good. If he stays for another year all is well and good. In the end I want him to make the decision that is right for him. If that means we get to see him in a Pack uni for another year I’m very happy. If it means he steps to the league I’m also happy.

People rail about the decline of college basketball and yes there are some large issues there (maybe not so much decline but large changes) but in the end I have found no other sport that attracts me as much – warts and all. Many here are not old enough to remember carrying a transistor radio to school expressly to listen to the ACC tourney games on the ride home. The explosion of the NCAAT can be traced to 1983 and the miracle run of the Pack. Prior to then the NCAAT was nice and all but never had as much passion. The following year Villanova made a somewhat similar run to the top. This year maybe we will see another improbable run.

Didn’t do laundry so I can wear the same clothes as they were at the end of the last game. One thing I will not do is repeat the colon cleanse as that procedure is over for another 5 years. This time I might get to enjoy a celebratory adult beverage.

Bill I was thinking the same thing after watching TJ last night. I might have to amend my vote for KC as the best since DT.
