Given the changed landscape the “record” is pretty much meaningless. The $28 million is not.
tractor57Participant^ this
The team as a whole was better off with the subtraction of Purvis and Lewis. Buckets maybe a different story. Purvis obviously did not want to play for Gott and his record since then might show the McD honors were not so deserved. Lweis (who I was rooting for) simply was not power conference quality burger boy or not. Buckets was the real deal and maybe that made the team a one trick pony (not at all his fault).
to me telling part this year is the continued improvement of the members of the team, the fact that players like Lee and Washington were at the ready when needed. That speaks well of the recruiting, the coaching staff and the players.
tractor57ParticipantThis is why I like the NCAA tourney.
tractor57ParticipantThe Nova team has had an outstanding year. And kudos for the classy way things were done after the game. I’ve always like Jay Wright and thought he was class. The tough fought game and the words and actions by him and the team were class.
Even if the Pack had lost I would still think it was a great game.tractor57ParticipantPig sooie!
tractor57ParticipantThis was a TEAM victory. Impressive DEFENSE! Darn good offense. Nova made the late run as expected from a really good team but the Pack survived.
tractor57ParticipantFor the younger set this has the feeling of the ’83 run. It could end with the next game so enjoy the moment.
This is why I agree with Gott that this is the greatest show on earth.
tractor57ParticipantHard to pick a player of the game as most all who played had some stellar moments. Excellent game plan, nice work on the court. The team is hot at exactly the right time. And ad others have said it is good to see Dez getting some moments to shine.
tractor57ParticipantAsk our last opponent.
tractor57ParticipantAs we see every year once you get in the NCAA Tourney things can happen. The Pack at their best can probably hang with Nova even at their best. The Pack at their worst (like any team) can be beaten. Last game we were the last man standing, this game could be the same or we could be the bug on the windshield. That’s why they play the games and why I agree with Gott this is the greatest show on earth.
tractor57Participant^^ This is why I do not post during a game. Emotions run hot and cold (often within 30 seconds). I dozed off during the first half but rallied as the second started. I saw two teams with effort and the will to win. Of course only one could be the winner and all through the second half the Pack stayed around, cut the lead then at the end slipped in the dagger. Regardless who won it was an example of what the tournament should be. Effort, failings and a last second shot for the win. This time it fell the Pack’s way.
tractor57ParticipantI haven’t seen a free throw line defense like that since ’83.

tractor57ParticipantThe cheats haven’t done so well against K ex-assistants of late.
tractor57ParticipantBeside the fact I do not do polls these are simply silly.
tractor57Participantwufpup – nice preview
Doug change the venue and the names and this could be a conversation on SFN. The proof will come tonight.tractor57ParticipantWV that reminds me of a parody song from the 1990’s “Charlene was as big as ole Bob Horner in the spring”
tractor57ParticipantI’ve never really liked Boeheim although over the years he has coached well. The comment about Jordan if taken only to mean in college has some merit but they played very different roles. Of course as a pro there is no comparison.
I saw a very good basketball game today better from the Pack so they won. Seems things are falling into place for tourney season which seems to be Gott’s MO. I thought the defense was very solid and even Turner was playing better on D (but part of that could have been match ups). Cat was spot on and I do think his efforts both on offense and defense were the base everything else built on. Anya’s interior defense was much better today. In fact seemed everybody has been playing at an elevated level on defense of late and that will help carry a team over some rough spots offensively.
tractor57ParticipantI’ve long thought the issue goes back well beyond 1993. A woman who I grew up with was one of the first Title IX women athletes to get a scholly from UNC. We talked a bit about this about a week ago. This goes back to the early ’80’s she releated sher would get back from a game and go to get her assignments on the academic side while bigtime jocks played. Not so surprising and not uniques to the Cheats but seems they carried this to another level.
tractor57ParticipantI like Bonner (some do not) but I would elevate Doris Burke – she had the knowledge and a way of making things exciting. It is obvious she loves basketball.
tractor57ParticipantDrown that tigger …
tractor57ParticipantHold that tigger under the surface of Lake Hartwell until …
tractor57Participant^ Trending downward maybe if you are counting the number of burger babies on the squad. Performance on the court so far seems to be equal or maybe a slight improvement. Would Archie be the next coming? Maybe or maybe not as we have seen hiring from the midmajor ranks is a bit of a crap shoot. I happen to think Archie will do quite well but for many reasons I don’t see him in Raleigh in the near future. In a decade or so who knows.
tractor57ParticipantWishing Archie well but I suspect it will be a cold day before he or his brother coaches the home team in Raleigh. Not that there is anything wrong with either but simply time and place.
