Rick that is a good question and I really don’t know if he is the man to lead us to the promised land. All I know now is better basketball than I have seen in decades. Good enough right now? No but better.
tractor57ParticipantIt seems it is easy to forget what a CF both basketball and football were thanks to Fowler. That does impact us to this day. I think Yow has done a decent job – prefect? Not at all but I doubt any AD would have done a lot better. Gott is better than a lot but maybe not the absolute best. I’m good with what he has done so far but I do expect the program to elevate.
tractor57ParticipantI do understand Lacey’s decision. I would like him with us this year but I do understand his decision. Over the years there have been others that were head shakers. But that seems to be rampant in top level college basketball.
tractor57ParticipantAnd do some research on V and Sloan..
tractor57ParticipantMaverick with the final dagger
tractor57ParticipantLately if you say anything at all that is not negative you upset the force here. So I abstain.
tractor57ParticipantBJD I can think of one that would be worse – and we lived through it – barely.
tractor57Participant“Iām a pretty cynical bastard, but Iād go with two reasons:
3-year contract
$1.35M guaranteed”BJD does this make you cynical? I think not. We all have to eat and we most all want more. I don’t discount the other reasons already listed but yours make more immediate sense.
tractor57ParticipantMaybe Yow is a bit better than you think – remember uncle Jed …
But yes maybe an issue – I’m blind to that – I keep thinking of the horrors since V was an active coach (which apparently was a couple years before he was relieved of his duties).tractor57ParticipantVA a valid point going back to whatshisname. But there is a recurring theme. For example long ago I quit checking here after any loss right after that loss. The opposite is true after a win but I still usually do not read right after a game.
tractor57Participant“Maybe because Gott has coaching flaws that are apparent to everyone except him and I guess you. ”
Rick you miss my point entirely. I did not say the negative posts were not warranted. What I’m saying is there has been a pattern for a LONG time – actually going back to that guy we do not mention. So I know what to expect. Maybe that is why participation is down.
tractor57ParticipantLooks like a tough year ahead. Even so it is getting to be a tiresome routine (all the way through Gott’s tenure) that the discussion always turns to pitchforks and torches after every loss.
tractor57ParticipantSad thing is they can’t ALL loose š
tractor57ParticipantIn the end it is coach D’s show. If he has a an assistant that does not meet his mettle changes should be made. I’m glad Canada found work quickly and I wish him well except when Pitt plays the Pack.
tractor57ParticipantI’ll assess at the end of the season. So far not so good and maybe not at the end but that is the way I look at things.
tractor57ParticipantRivers was a MOC recruit that Amato made a point to court heavily. Good call for both. Sad thing is when coach D was hired there was no established recruiting of any consequence. So he started at a lower level than Amato. Chuck did some very good things, TOB sort of cleaned up the off field issues but his group did not recruit effectively. Coach D and his group has done a bit better but maybe not enough yet. It truly is a process, some can shortcut that but usually at “name” football schools.
tractor57ParticipantI agree with Rick up to a point. The Lowe hire was after a extremely poorly run search. I had hopes he could at least be adequate but that really did not happen. The Gott hire was at the end of another less than ideal search but he has at the least been decent. Long term maybe he is not the right man for us but I’m not quite ready to go there.
Agreed this season looks pretty tough but I have seen some improvements – maybe far from enough but I will remind everyone we have had basically this same conversation at this point every year of Gott’s tenure. That may mean there are real and repeating issues or it may mean we simply don’t accept the general plan that Gott uses for a season.
I’m not happy with the mid season results but the end of the year results have been the best we have seen in decades. The ultimate question remains is that enough?tractor57ParticipantSo should we rehire TOB? Or even Chuck the chest? And I am really bother about the”sheep” comment. I most certainly no a sheep. Would Lou Hotz in his prime be worthy?
tractor57Participant‘fose seems we are on the same page here. I do think Samuels was underused but yes situation and tactics. Not so sure the choices were the best and also I’m not sure he was the “best playmaker”.
tractor57ParticipantGiven the OL performance maybe not so terribly bad. That said coaching is a part, recruiting is a part, strength and conditioning is a part, “want to” is a part.
tractor57ParticipantI was dissappointed Samuels was not used a bit more but I’m not sure I would call him the “best playmaker” – If their are stats that show he was I’m good to go. Just not convinced yet.
tractor57ParticipantI have no inside knowledge. I do have opinions as a fan. Many times during the years I thought the offensive game plan was lacking. I felt the same with the defensive game plan. Maybe that will be addressed next. All in all I think I like the move …
tractor57ParticipantWell said. Henderson probably will not be like the Whitt of ’83 but in some ways similar. Different teams and different situations but there are some interesting issues.
tractor57ParticipantIn a few ways this team reminds me of the ’83 team. No not the same quality overall but the same sort of situation. Loss of a major player, during that loss period basically one player became the go to (Ernie Myers) and when Whitt returned things rolled. The ceiling for this team is not as high certainly but I can tell you during those dark days no one thought the ’83 team would do anything either. This is why the games are played.
I think there is a good chance this teams gets better through the season – not only is that the usual for a Gott team here but there is some talent on the team. The question is how much better.
tractor57ParticipantOSU? Really? What are you smoking or drinking?>
