The famous quote that was never spoken – “just the facts ma’am”
tractor57Participant^ Not so sure he is untouchable in the end. I will agree that the program is not where I would like to see it (but then I have not seen any program outside of UCLA from the 1960’s and 1970’s that would meet my personal standard). I do think there is some rope but is is getting shorter (or maybe wrapped around the neck). I’m ok with one bad year not so sure I would feel the same this time next season with equal results.
tractor57Participant“This should not happen to a program at the ACC level. Gott got caught with his pants down and now there doesn’t seem to be a recovery plan.”
Same could be said for Roy boy, K and the “other Rick” at Louisville. The difference is they were more able to weather the storm (except the “other Rick” apparently).
I agree that this year was less that expected or desired for the Pack. Maybe a coaching staff issue or maybe the confluence of a lot of issues. Either way not all that unusual.
The question is as always can the Pack do better with a new staff? Maybe yes and maybe no.tractor57ParticipantI watched all the home games Ted played in during my stay on campus. Simply awesome. Happy birthday Ted!
tractor57Participant“Its a moot point because someone will gamble on him in the first but another year at NCSU isnt going to do jack for him. He isnt getting bigger and his team this year was the perfect storm to showcase his ability. ”
I’m not so sure it is a moot point. He has developed much since a year ago. I would not expect as much change from now to a year from now but until he knows where he would land in the draft it is not moot. After that it might be or might not be.
tractor57ParticipantGranted Steph is a special case but Cat has improved on what would be his major weakness – 3 pt shooting. That alone shows he is putting forth the effort to improve. He is tough but at the end of last season my thinking was the lack of a consistent 3 pt shot was his biggest problem moving to the league. That seems to be much improved. Is he ready? Not sure I know but I darned sure would accept the guaranteed money if he is one of the top draftees. If not I would think one more year in college to burnish his image and to do some more work makes sense. Guaranteed money is guaranteed money. I am impressed with how Cat has improved his game and also how he now makes the players around him better.
tractor57ParticipantYep BJD – just like Steph Curry. Sad the scouts get locked into “measurables” and not what is the “eye test”. If Cat is predicted to be a top pick there is not doubt he should test the waters. If he remains a second round or later might be wise to add another year of seasoning.
Not arguing against your point but we have seen this bias for decades. If nothing else think Spud Webb.

02/12/2016 at 8:07 PM in reply to: NYT factually inaccurate in article – Dean Smith’s shadow looming over scandal #99273tractor57ParticipantQuite interesting to read the comment to the article. When I read none really supporting UNX in this.
tractor57ParticipantI like the repurposing of Reynolds. No way it will ever be the home of men’s BB again. Better repurpose than take down for another parking lot.
tractor57ParticipantI have respect for what you are doing. Now the “other Coach Rick” not so much.
tractor57ParticipantMeant Pitino not you. Sorry for the confusion.
tractor57ParticipantApparently so did coach Rick.
tractor57ParticipantLouisville, hookers and those poor, poor seniors who transferred in for a NCAA run …
tractor57ParticipantThe last BB coach search was not ideal (maybe not even good) but a damn sight better than the previous one. Would DY do better with a new search today? Maybe. I also have concerns on that issue.
For better or worse it seems to me that overall athletics is in a better place. Not good enough for sure but at least no more Uncle Jed crap.
Can DY lead the effort to the next step up? Not sure she can so it is useful to consider options – exactly as I hope she will review all the programs that report to her. To date I’m not ready to change ADs but it should be an annual review just as coaches should.
tractor57ParticipantOk I’ll bite. What is considered trash talking? Granted off field Rivers is a model good guy. On field he tends to be vocal. Trash talking? Obviously his fans say not so much – I tend to lie there as well). But his detractors would say he does talk trash. In the end is that so much different from Newton? I had real doubts when he was drafted but I have seen better than expected.
tractor57ParticipantWell deserved. When he was drafted the physical skills were obvious but the rest was an unknown. He is the man for Charlotte – team leader, face of the franchise and obviously has grown into that role.
tractor57ParticipantI happen to be watching the game and not BS’ing here. For others it might be different.
tractor57ParticipantEvery year we hear about “the point of emphasis” but by mid season that seems to fly out of the window. Not just this year or even this decade …
Maybe Gott has a point, maybe he is working the refs. Either way the issue is the officiating does change from early season to late.tractor57Participant“I like my green 1949 M better….she sounds so sweeeet too. ”
BassPacker I also love that sound of a poppin’ John. And my favorite an Allis Chalmers B.
tractor57ParticipantSome of our alums don’t care about sports at all. The evidence is here that while football and men’s basketball are the big interests other sports are also of interest and thanks to people here with a special interest in a particular sport they are also covered.
There are times I disagree with an opinion but I never think there is a lack of interest. It is that interest that creates those varied opinions.tractor57ParticipantBetter but still not quite there. Cat is truly is amazing both in the minutes he plays this year and in the progress he has made with his game from year to year. The rest of the team does some good things and some bad things – of late more to the good.
And Bill that 140 is a sweet little tractor
tractor57Participant“I read books, but watch more TV these days. I just finished The Man in the High Castle on Amazon. A slow start that grips you, but damn in gets intense. It’s based on a book, so it kinda counts.” I binge watched this and agree started a bit slow but ended very intense. I don’t read as much today as I used to but I do tend to find interesting things via the web – some provide real information and some an example of human stupidity.
tractor57ParticipantAs to declaring for the draft it seems reasonable Cat will. Not sure he has much to gain by staying for another year. Yes I hope he does stay if that works for him but seems to me he has elevated his game to the point that the NBA is a real possibility. Abu maybe on potential but I don’t think he is ready. Anya much less so. They both have shown flashes of brilliance but also flashes of being in another world. The twins? Maybe a transfer but not that likely. Kirk came in as a project an from what I’ve seem he simply is not ready for ACC play – so maybe a step down if he is willing to sit out a year. Maverick – I don’t think so.
Transfers are the routine in college ball now so I might be underestimating a bit but I don’t think I am.
