tractor57Participant
11-7 Tech was 5-5 then you asked the question. Must be your fault Beej 🙂
tractor57ParticipantMrP of note to me is the great increase in transfers over time.
tractor57Participanttractor57ParticipantBeing a motivator is a part of coaching and after watching I was ready to run through a wall. That is not the whole package for a HC.
tractor57ParticipantAs much as I like and admire PR I would never base a coaching choice on a video clip of one motivational speech. No disrespect to PR at all. I think one day he could be an excellent coach (especially as an NFL OC) but to be my choice as a college HC he would have to show me more. I like what I see so far but that’s a long way from making up my mind.
tractor57ParticipantAs Johnny Fever said – “booger”
tractor57ParticipantWhite whine and blue cheese – referencing Sam Cassel from years ago.
tractor57ParticipantNot sure that was the “real” Tyler but the grammar and spelling would indicate an uneducated fool – so maybe it was Tyler 🙂
tractor57ParticipantUntil the grant in aid is guaranteed for at least 4 years I will not blame an athlete exploring options or even leaving. Do I personally think Abu is ready for the NBA? No I do not but it is his call.
tractor57ParticipantFor better or worse I will watch. I like good basketball and this seems to be a good match.
tractor57ParticipantI have no idea what the eventual punishment will be but it is obvious or friends at the dump on the hump have played the system. They have strung this out and may get a natty in basketball tonight. I tend to agree with Texpack but once again time will tell.
tractor57ParticipantI like Gott however “money talks and…” or in this case so me some improvement. Fair or not that is were I stand. Seasons prior show some glimpses of improvement while the last one does not. Should he be fired today? I think no but the seat is getting warmer …
tractor57ParticipantI’m concerned we seem to have no “plan B” as opposed to being concerned about transfer and leaving for the pros. Those happen. Recruiting quality players is hard no doubt and no quality player wants to sit on the bench. Is it Gott’s fault that the landscape has changed? Maybe he needs to adapt a bit or maybe not. To me next year will be the story. If he works through this fine, if not maybe time to look elsewhere.
tractor57ParticipantThe original call was Hessian no doubt.
Gonna show my age here but Lenny Wirtz was a prototype of the showgirls and before him Lou Bello.
tractor57ParticipantThat call late in the Cuse game was really strange. The official on the baseline did not make a call but one way far away and with no angle to actually see anything makes the wrong call. After the review (supposed for timing) the Zags kept the ball. Makes you wonder if the no call on that block was a make up.
“By rule we can’t review the call” – then just maybe the “rule” should be changed.
tractor57ParticipantSFN has become not better than other sites : “I deleted your ignorant posts that added nothing to the conversation. Now you can stop whining like a spurned school girl and go back to fellating Gott”
As mod your right ditch posts. The comments are over the top.
tractor57Participant^ I agree here to a point. What I have concerns with is progress for the program as a whole. I’m not ready to say fire Gott but from the beginning I said 5 years. That time is drawing near.
tractor57ParticipantI have no issue with Abu learning if he has any chance at being drafted – as long as he does not sign with an agent before learning that important information. Like Cal said with his UK kids all that are invited should have a look. Signing with an agent means the die has been cast and for leaving early. Personally I think that was the right decision for Cat although I wish he had not burned that bridge at this time. With Abu I’m not so sure it is the right move however I do not know any details, including any internal issues with the coach or the program.
I have said all along in Gott’s tenure 5 years to show me substantial progress. I have seen some early (a low bar for sure) so not it is do or die time. Not calling for a coaching change now but another year without substantial improvement means a coaching change.
tractor57ParticipantCoach Cal says everyone in a UK uniform who can will be testing the waters (walk ons included). Not that I claim the situations are anything near similar but the landscape of college basketball has changed with the change in the rules for declaring for the NBA. In some ways the same has happened with transfers to other schools. I’m not absolving Gott regarding the situation either. Time will tell if he deserves to remain coach or not.
tractor57ParticipantInteresting speculation but as Fergus says at this point making it up. Will that happen? Possibly as he is right the driver is money (and mostly TV money). I would be interested in seeing actual ratings numbers. For me my viewing of college football has dropped with expanded watching options. That said I am not the prime demographic.
tractor57ParticipantHe should explore his options and probably leave. My thanks for his efforts and wishes for greatness for Cat.
tractor57Participantrye what built in advantage? Maybe a couple decades ago but time marches on.
tractor57Participant” Ironically HWSNBN was the right style of coach.”
Maybe so but he was run out on a rail. Technically not fired but did see it coming. Gott might not be the man to lead the Pack to the promised land but we could do much worse (and have). He has earned another year IMO.
tractor57Participant“so… Knight really didn’t bother me in that respect….”
Bill,
I have seen such as well. The problem with Knight is that behavior eventually cost him the IU job. I always got the passion but as often happens with such driven people there does come a point where for those in charge the pain is not worth the gain.
tractor57ParticipantI always thought Knight was a talented coach but a royal ass.
