BotB – yes, Never knew why my dad was so invested but he was. In those days I was UNX fan (knew little and then I learned). To this day I collect UNX stuff from that era.

I’m glad Archie got the chance at a job he probably wished for even before playing for the ‘Pack. That said I’m keeping an open mind on Keatts – so far I see good but that was a lower level (just like Archie).

Riker was tough but with talent. Ribock was the equivalent of a hockey enforcer. In addition Roche, Cremins and Tom Owens (one of my all time favorite Carolina Cougars). Probably the most hated team every for North Carolina – and I was there. My dad was a fan because of McGuire.

I know nothing, have no sources so all speculation here. My thinking is we had discussions with Archie and could not agree to terms – be that coaching at NCSU, compensation, they car he would be offered or whatever. In my book not knowing more that simply sounds like business. It appears Poppa John has a bug up his butt (maybe Archie does as well but I have seen no proof).

As recruiting is now worldwide I call male bovine manure. It is up to the staff to do right.Gott could recruit but was not much of a coach.

No one in the Miller clan dissed NCSU to the media. That I can respect. As a career path maybe Archies’s in in the mid west. They were not on my Christmas card list regardless.

Either a win or a fail. It is his to make sure.

Rye my thinking exactly. Keatts might be the next Valvano or he might be the next flameout but no doubt he wanted to be here.

Obviously Archie had choices – he didn’t choose the Pack for whatever reason (compensation, next to the blues or whatever). My take is I never want an employee that does not want to be with me. Beyond that maybe his career path as he sees it does not include Raleigh. Regardless I can respect that he has not trashed NCSU and by the same token I will not trash Archie.

I’m with Va on this – a bit of a flyer on the new coach. As Al Davis was fond of saying “just win baby”.
I think maybe a good choice with the givens but he has to win. If not back to the spin cycle.

I simply don’t care one way or the other. I’m assuming contacts were made with Archie and either the money didn’t work or he thought moving to NCSU was not in his career path. If Sean advised him against the Pack so be it. After that I’m sure there were some other targets including Keatts. He was hired and now he has to win – period, end of story. If he does all is good but if not there will be a crapfest. Just the same if Archie was hired.

There was also a turning plow that had huge discs. My grandpa bought a 2 bottom one to pull with his A-C D-14 to plow some newly cleared land. He had that field cleared by a dozer but there were still a lot of roots, etc that would have caught the moldboard plow. Some day I hope to have the tractor restored as it was the one I learned to drive as a kid. Today for my personal use I have a sub compact New Holland with a front end loader and a Massey Ferguson 35 diesel that I bought about 30 years ago. Neither really get enough excercise. I am however headed out to play in my garden with the NH in a few minutes. Relocation a 3’x50′ raised bed then doing some prep work on the “flat” portion of my 50’x50′ garden. Soon will be time to set out some ‘mater plants.

I love Lewis but he does not have the skills or the athletic ability to be at the top.

Another take on the underpaying/overpaying thing. As I remember (I’m old so many not exactly) V was offered $79K when UCLA made a run at him (that is contracted salary not the other things like money from sports shows, etc no things like the value of vehicles he had use of). I don’t remember if that was Casey or the BOG with the limit. That in turn caused the offer to be both AD and head basketball coach to up the ante. At the time that contract figure was a real concern about overpaying. Seems the market set the terms – much as it has with Keatts. If he wins a good selection, if not back to the spin cycle.

It was chump change if he delivered. Sadly he did not. Hopefully Keatts can follow the ghosts of Case, Sloan and Valvano …

I follow you in this but I think for whatever reason that job was toxic the last two times around. I think we are in a better place even if not fully healed. We have decades of misery to show the job became toxic – not impossible but toxic. Maybe we are digging out from that muck.

I agree in general but I do think (totally from the outside) it is less toxic now. Time will tell if I am right or wrong.

Maybe the difference between an engineer and a chemist 🙂

Va and I hail from the same generation. My first memory of ACC basketball was the 1967 UNC team that played UCLA in the finals. I was on campus between the two nattys (damn good basketball then) but since V was run off not so much. Finding that great coach is not easy – we have had three but it has been a LONG time since then. I have always been impressed with Va’s grasp on data and they way he parses it. Me I can find data but the parsing is the issue with me.

And that “low ball” brought Valvano to State. Not disagreeing with Grey but actions have reactions. As such the actions by some against V did put us on the track we have been on for decades. Maybe we are finally beginning to shovel our way out. I think Gott helped in that although he was not our Moses. There is no doubt the job is not a toxic as it was the last 2 coaching searches.

As with any hire we have to wait a bit and see. I think all in all not a bad hire. Maybe not my dream candidate but back in the day neither was V. That turned out decently. So we wait once again. We are closer to getting out of the muck than we have been since the V days. That does not mean we will but we have a better chance.

As we did for Case, Sloan and Valvano. Maybe it is the right move, maybe not.

Va not being on the inside I don’t know but I suspect she has done reasonably well – better than Foulup. Yes I know that is very faint praise.

Show me results. We are in as better place than the last 2 searches but the answer is results. I think not a bad hire but results matter.

Over and out – time to put up or shut up. If Keatts can put up I’m all good.
Growing VERY tired of the constant bitching.
