The NCAA “was prevented from acting”? I call male bovine manure on that.
tractor57ParticipantOf course I was disappointed with the outcome of the game. Face at least for yesterday the better team won. Maybe that was injuries, maybe a better game plan by ND or maybe some less than stellar play calling. Regardless our defense had to spend too much time on the field and the offense was not up to the challenge. It isn’t the end of the season but the team does have more challenges ahead. The ACC no longer is FSU and Clemson with a bunch of weak sisters.
tractor57ParticipantND has been the better team. Maybe that was preparation or possibly we are close but not there yet. The season is not over but the team does have to perform better in the next game.
tractor57ParticipantRegardless the Pack is right there if they can step it up a bit. Now you see why I hate the Notre Dame Broadcasting network.
tractor57Participant“Play that funky music white boy” 🙂
tractor57ParticipantMcC going forward mean not driving by the rearview mirror. I agree there are some issues to be remembered but just the overly positive the overly negative have the wrong view in my opinion.
tractor57ParticipantMost all universities that were affiliated with any religious group have become more independent. Happened with Wake and Duke. Sports is now a money game and the golden domers went there that a few years ago.
tractor57ParticipantMaybe you can visit South Bend and share those with our “friends” 🙂
tractor57ParticipantIn the near term I agree but longer term what is done to replace assistants that leave is crucial. Sort the two sides of the coin. Obviously we need to continue to recruit and develop players. That ultimately become the assistants duty and with that I think long term how the assistant turn (or not) is a very important issue.
Agreed in enjoying the suckitude over at the dump on the hump.
tractor57ParticipantI’m impressed so far with this year. I also recognize there can be issues remaining. Even if the program continues the upward trajectory (and maybe because of that) there will be some turnover in the staff. Thus my interest in how those losses are replaced. This year might well be over the top for the Pack historically or it might end with a thud. I’m think more positive than negative but I’m not ready to declare Coach D the second coming (even though I do really like him).
I will continue to say the program is better now than when Coach D took the HC position. Will that continue? I think so but my crystal broke a few years ago.
tractor57ParticipantI think we are saying much the same thing. Minor differences but I see a program on the rise. Coach D has been through fire in his time with the Pack but I never thought he was overmatched unlike some. We had tried the quick fix (Amato) and the old tree (TOB) with limited success. Now we might be heading down the same road but at the very minimum the program is on a better footing that of late. Maybe even equal to the Rein era. With hard work and some luck the program can surpass that. The question (as always) is will that happen. I think the odds are in favor of that but time will tell.
tractor57ParticipantI do think the assistant staff is solid but I also realize change will happen. Look back thorough the roster of former assistants (including Pete Carroll). At some point some will chose to advance. When that happens it is all on the head coach to find a suitable replacement. This is not unlike any business. Will that happen next year? I think unlikely but you can be sure high paying contracts will be offered to the flavor of the day. I don’t see that as bad – in fact I see is as more kudos for the program.
tractor57ParticipantJust as the news cycle with politics for now State is old news. Beat the catholics and state jumps to the front of the cycle again. I’m the type who looks for progress. Sometimes that is W/L, sometimes it is more underlying. This year we surely have an improvement in W/L but that has come because of a lot of behind the scenes work by the staff and the players. Hopefully we will see success next year. I think we will with the basic work. With that comes turnover in assistants as they move up (maybe even with the head coach but right now that is pure speculation). Assuming coach D hangs around (expected by me) the next issue is replacing any assistants who either can’t cut it or more likely today move upward.
For this year I’m enjoying the run. I do hope the team wins out and gets the kudos for that. Winning solves a lot of issues.
tractor57ParticipantMcC in broad strokes I agree – not time to start count hatchlings. However I do see some positives with the Pack this year which I have not seen in decades. I guess I’m generally positive but wary. I think we are seeing a program on the rise but to keep rising you jave to keep winning (no I don’t mean win out but I do mean the team cannot flop). Each week we have seen the college football landscape change drastically – that could mean the Pack gets shuffled out if they don’t take care of business or it could mean vaulting into that rarefied air of a top 10 program if they don’t flop. So far I’m pleased at the progress but that can quickly turn so I make no predictions. What I have seen so far is the best over football by a Pack team in a long time – still not perfect obviously but the best performance over a number of games. The question is will that continue.
tractor57ParticipantLike Yogi I think it was an issue of having experienced and talented players – obviously talented but not quite ready for prime time. What we are seeing so far this year is that talent with experience. I also think Coach D has grown into the position and has made some moves with staff that have been good. I also think next season will say a lot about building that pipeline of talent and experience. Regardless Pack football is better than it has been in decades for at least one year – I think that will continue but time will tell.
tractor57ParticipantYogiNC and next fall will show if we are now to a level of having “next man up”. I think the Pack is there but I see that as the next big step after the current season is over. Certainly better than where we were when Coach D was hired. In college football as we know the issue is always having that depth.
tractor57ParticipantWho? The Hat? My point being people thought the Hat was the second coming – maybe not so much now (and that might be totally wrong given the circumstances). People also thought Dabo was a poor choice for the Tiggers. It is not like he has shamed himself. Maybe this is too much or maybe coach D is growing into the job as the team grows. The rest of the year is important for the here and now but what happen next fall will be equally important.
tractor57ParticipantWe’re good – the FSS anouncers spent the whole game shilling for Pitt.
10/14/2017 at 3:48 PM in reply to: What Did Columbus Actually Say When Approaching Pittsburgh? #125237tractor57ParticipantIf you look at all good college teams they win one when they are not quite “on”. So the Pack lives for another day.
10/14/2017 at 12:44 PM in reply to: What Did Columbus Actually Say When Approaching Pittsburgh? #125121tractor57ParticipantYes after a quarter of hunting I did find the game on FSS. Bad thing is I had checked earlier for the broadcast location and all I got was the ACCN. Poor communications.
10/14/2017 at 12:31 PM in reply to: What Did Columbus Actually Say When Approaching Pittsburgh? #125113tractor57ParticipantMaybe throw a few at the ACC network as well – Neither the Greesboro market or the Charlotte market can see the game. Maybe John Skipper stepped in.
10/14/2017 at 12:18 PM in reply to: What Did Columbus Actually Say When Approaching Pittsburgh? #125106tractor57ParticipantDamn glad the ACC/ESPN is telvising BC in the Wonston-Salem market – not
tractor57ParticipantI understand it is a rule but exceptions are made for unusual circumstances. Just like the exceptions for UNX. I guess the Pack doesn’t have enough money pulling power.
tractor57ParticipantThe road has been plowed and now time for the Pack to take advantage.
tractor57ParticipantAT sadly I’m not surprised.
