^ Lack of overall speed and experience in the secondary. There’s a coach’s emphasis not to give explosive’ plays. Keep the opponent in front of you and make the tackle. Back 7 can tighten up with less ground to cover once inside the 20.
Early failure of this likely caused some reassessments of general tactics, at least while their getting a lil seasoning.
So I assume it’s by design, as a function of scheme and/or consideration of personnel. Most likely more latter than former.
Have been exceptions, of course, like when the Pack brought in the safeties for run support and rolled up the corners for man (vs GSU).
tjfoose1ParticipantIt will interesting to see what fedora does at that position.
“Interesting” is one word.
I’m ashamed to admit I was a little worried when u*nc first hired him. But damn, the more I see and listen… well, I’m starting to honestly believe the man is simply not that bright, perhaps just a ‘system coach’, and not much more.
tjfoose1ParticipantAh, gotcha. Thanks.
tjfoose1Participant^ Ok, I’m tired and thinking a little slow this morning, so help me out. I don’t get the Constitution reference / joke here. Or was there something else that happened in 1789 that is noteworthy for our purposes?

Some use the opponents’ RZ scoring percentage as the stat while other’s use the RZ defense percentage.
I, like Doeren, prefer the latter, because that metric directly measures YOUR success vs the inverse.
It’s the same measure though, just presented in inverse stats.
It’s essentially semantics, but I would want my players focused on a goal that measured their success vs their opponents failures.
It’s a perspective/philosophy thing.
tjfoose1ParticipantThere are plenty of valid criticisms of the last staff…not being able develop qbs isn’t one of them.
No one suggested otherwise.
But back to what I did suggest… that is their record of FINDING “them”… at NC State (which is what is relevant here), I would say it actually was, to use your word, “crappy”.
I don’t know what your standards are, but in my world, ONE in 6 years ain’t very good.
In fact, the QB recruiting, if used to represent the recruiting efforts and results as a whole, was so “crappy”, it got TOB/Bible fired.

If I remember correctly, PC reached the red zone only once and did not score, thus the NC State red zone defense for the PC game is 100%.
If PC had reached the red zone 4 times and scored (FG or TD) only once, the ‘Pack’s red zone defense would be 75% while PC’s red zone offense would be 25%.
Some use opponents’ RZ scores as the stat while other’s use RZ defense. Doeren uses the latter, which is why he said the RZ defense was 100%.
tjfoose1Participantpackalum44,
… and one day we’ll all be dead, so why bother even getting out of bed in the morning.
tjfoose1Participantbut tob/bible had a knack for finding them…
Unless they were handed to them
tjfoose1ParticipantJigs,
That is correct, but you made a statement that is obviously false.
Perhaps it was hyperbole, but whether you agree or disagree with the general point, surely you realize the first four games have more value than you attributed in the quoted statement.
To say you err is a pretty benign statement.
tjfoose1ParticipantI don’t understand what everyone was thinking…
Often
tjfoose1ParticipantI’ll break it down nice and simple.
When the ‘Pack does well, it’s because their opponents suck. When the ‘Pack doesn’t do well, it’s because they suck.
tjfoose1ParticipantBUT, JimBO did, IMO, outcoach DaBO
Even if you’re correct, that’s not saying much. True, FSU won the game, but they did not win it. Clemson lost it.
tjfoose1ParticipantI see these games as worthless beyond seeing the mistakes that are made over and over again and will be worse when State plays someone with a pulse.
That’s where you err.
tjfoose1ParticipantI see in another post you wrote Peyton hasn’t thrown an interception in over 2 years.
So what are you drinking today? Or are you off your meds? 🙂
tjfoose1ParticipantYou have anything to drink at CF? That high snap was in regulation.
tjfoose1ParticipantYes, speed is coming. By “anytime soon” I mean in the next few weeks or so.
tjfoose1ParticipantI’m amazed that some still seem to think the transitive property applies to college football.
College football is a game of match ups and the
fluctuating emotions of 18-23 year olds. The biggest issues with our defense are inexperience and lack of overall speed in the back 7. No big changes are coming to either anytime soon, so you look for improvement where it can be made.
tjfoose1ParticipantDefense takes another step forward. Fernandez (RS Fr) slowly progressing at LB, Buckley (starting “rover” – or whatever this staff calls it – coming out of fall camp) finally logs extensive time after missing early games with an illness.
DLine doing their job. McKeever is raw, but could be something as he develops. DBs better, but still need to tighten up.
Coming along about on schedule (maybe a tiny bit faster, all things considered) but who knows… Good enough to be enough next week? Certainly not by themselves, but with help from a run game and ball-control accurate, quick, short passes from Jacoby plus some CF anti-Seminole voodoo?… who knows.
Like that the deep ball is coming along, at least enough to register as a legitimate, regular threat. Think there was some “Hey FSU, look at this” going on tonight to loosen up those DBs.
Find out a lot more next Saturday at 3:30pm. ESPN has it listed as ABC/ESPN2 for those of you at home.
I’m sticking to my preseason 5 to 7 wins as a reasonable expectation of this group. But there’s signs that these worthless coaches, in over there heads and not fit for local high schools (as at least that’s how our sunshine crew here have described them), might be just a wee bit ahead of schedule.
If I were a betting man, at this point I’d put even money that this crew will exceed preseason reasonable expectations.
tjfoose1ParticipantTime out for all things rivalry. Condolences Marvin
tjfoose1ParticipantYeah, these coaches are in over their heads. /sarcasm
Knew it wouldn’t take long for the bitching whiney dumb asses to stand up and declare themselves.
tjfoose1ParticipantI left the game after our last TD so I could make it to Lowe’s before closing (plumbing issue discovered today) so I didn’t see it, but if my CD interpreter is working, think he’s just saying Dayes took a big hit.
tjfoose1ParticipantRight. Not disagreeing. A practicing alcoholic won’t last long.
I disagree with the relative effects of alcohol and weed though, especially considering the potency has increased 10 fold since the 60’s/70’s.
An occassional glass of wine doesn’t carry the same risk and detrimental effects as the same occassional use of weed.
Ironic, the culture’s growing acceptance of weed vs tobacco and unhealthy foods. Can get in more trouble these days sharing a twinkie at a Michelle Obama Colorado public school than passing a joint.
Stoners can save their breath. I’m not debating, just saying.
tjfoose1ParticipantRisk? Did I say “risk”?
tjfoose1ParticipantAt the risk of being politically incorrect on several different levels…
When I think “I’d hit that”, I’m always looking at a woman.
Just saying.
