Ah, the filter thing makes sense.
tjfoose1ParticipantBest Bet, Jax. Lived down here for a while in early 2000s when doing some contact work for Mayo medical. Visiting friends, talking shop, and playing a little cards.
tjfoose1ParticipantAnd why is “p o k e r” a filtered word here?
tjfoose1ParticipantDon’t sweat it. I got the victory locked up.
In a pker room in Florida. When I reqested the game be put on one of the tv’s in my line of sight, the tourney director informed me he’s a Syracuse grad. We pot a full $1 on the game. I’m even letting him hold the money.
tjfoose1ParticipantFwiw: Kevin Ollie on Rodney Purvis
My Ferrari is now out of the garage. Rodney Purvis. Now I can drive my red Ferrari and I can’t wait. He’s a wonderful young man. I don’t know how long we’re going to have him because, you know, our guys, they go to the NBA real, real quick. They develop quickly. He is a great, great young man. He’s going to come out and play the right way, a little bit of point guard, a little of two guard. He’s excited, I’m excited for him. You’re going to see him, you’re going to love him.
tjfoose1ParticipantWuf’ wins. Post of the year.
tjfoose1ParticipantNot so much with the offense but with the defense.
Yup. He’s a D coach. It’s difficult to stand by and just watch, I get it. But this is something he needs to work on. This is not this first time game mgmt has suffered because he’s been occupied at the micro level without someone covering his macro duties.
He pretty much is hands-off with the O.
But it’s difficult for most who came up on the D side to not want to critique, teach, and coach every play if you see something not done correctly. And there’s a lot of ‘not done correctly’ going on with this D.
You can’t really tell if watching on TV. Im fortunate enogh to have midfield tickets right behind the NC State bench, 15th row. Perfect perspective to watch all the sidelines goings on. Anyone who can, watch DD when the NC State D is on the field. You’ll see what I mean.
But then, perhaps, this is not DD SOP. Maybe this is a reaction to the current state of the D. Regardless, there needs to be some tweaking to the sideline management processes. I suspect there will be.
tjfoose1ParticipantI have no idea why the NCAA keeps up this stupid pretense of secrecy for these scrimmages.
The same root reason they keep up the pretenses of integrity, fairness, and equality.
tjfoose1ParticipantThis isn’t Pee Wee football in the Faison Church League.
I would like to watch one of those games.
tjfoose1ParticipantGiven the situations, of course the TO’s should have been called. The relevant question is “How and why did those situations arise?”
I’m a DD supporter, but the punt formation comment did NOT help DD. His concerns should have been addressed immediately after the punt to which he referred. IMMEDIATELY AFTER. If not then, then certainly at half time. No excuse for it to have not been. If there wasn’t a mechanism in place for it to be addressed either during the first half or at least during half time, then that’s on DD too. DD stepped in it with that comment.
I’ve watched DD. He’s the HEAD COACH. Perhaps he’s sometimes too busy micro managing and coaching players on the field when he should be doing more head coaching stuff, for example, communicating with his special teams coach concerns he has about the punt formation so that the next time the punt unit goes out onto the field, the concerns have already been addressed and the adjustments already made.
I counted, including GA’s, DD has 14 additional coaches on his staff, 3 of which coach special teams. They all have game day responsibilities. Perhaps DD should let ’em do them. Either that, or get new assistants.
I’m willing to bet DD would admit to this as something he needs to work on. But that’s just a hunch.
Just my 2 cents, for what they’re worth these days.
And I’m still a DD supporter. No coach is perfect, unless he’s sitting in the stands. I understand that.
tjfoose1ParticipantHard to say DD is an upgrade at this point. He may be but he has to win some games before that statement can be made.
I THINK he’ll prove to be the best coach we’ve had since Sheridan*, maybe even better (assuming he sticks around), but Rick’s is a true statement. It’s all speculation and projection at this point. You are what your records says you are.
*As relative to their peers. Comparing anything from different eras is always tough. The game is different, the players are different, what society is willing to accept is different.
tjfoose1Participantfoose, with everything going on in this thread I half expected much more than two one line replies. LOL.
Not much to say that isn’t obvious or repeating what I or others have already contributed.
I will say that BC is better than I expected coming into the season. With hindsight, given the situations, it was expecting too much to expect our OL to be able to match up well with their D front for the entire game.
CD’s scheduling comment probably nailed the root cause of all the angst. Same opponents in a different sequence and the Wolfpack is probably looking pretty good.
Times are tough. An opportunity to flail or check out, or an opportunity to galvanize. We’ll see.
tjfoose1ParticipantEver wonder why he wasn’t starting at Florida and felt the need to transfer?
I think that’s become pretty obvious. Muschamp couldn’t coach and offense out of a wet paper bag. Among his talents appears to be either 1) picking the worst QB from a selection of three, or 2) Coaching the best QB of 3 down to be the worst.
tjfoose1ParticipantI think we need more Wildcat formations. What do you guys think?
More cowbell.
tjfoose1ParticipantSatisfactory. Some progress was shown. Prereq’s for turning the corner is to keep fighting and stay engaged.
They did exceed performance expectations, but that’s a wash. I can’t praise due to the reasons why the expectations were so low.
I like to note that understanding legitimate reasons for poor performances does not make poor performances acceptable.
tjfoose1ParticipantDamn. Nasty injury.
tjfoose1ParticipantWell, the boys covered.
tjfoose1ParticipantThat’s a 2 pt score. Officials blew it.
tjfoose1ParticipantI love the run/pass option inside the 2-3 yard-line.
I do too. But not with a skittish
QB trending with wavering confidence and questionable decision making.tjfoose1ParticipantI disagree Beej. Gotta factor in JB’s recent performances and decision making. We’re on the freakn ONE.
tjfoose1ParticipantIst and goal at the one. Two words, Shadrack Thorton. Its not rocket science.
It’s week 8. This trying to be cute for cute’s sake bullsh!t is starting to get old.
tjfoose1Participant2 consecutive dumb play calls, both outdone by even worse execution.
tjfoose1ParticipantJesus, Foose, do you ever sleep? Up early for game day?
I’ve found I get my best curmudgeon on in the wee early morning hours. I have a rep’ to uphold.
tjfoose1ParticipantThe same thing goes for Norm Chow. I loved the guy and was sad when he left, but he was aided by coaching some good talent and a QB that was greatly better than advertised.
The same thing? Seriously? No. Absolutely not. Norm Chow was one of the major reasons why that QB became better than expected. Chow was not gifted that offense. He cobbled it together with the pieces left by MOC and orchestrated it, developing individual players as well as the unit as a whole. He was the antithesis of “hands off”.
tjfoose1Participant“As I’ve already commented…where is Reggie Herring
when you need him????”This is a joke, right? There’s a reason why you have to ask the question. For those who don’t know, he’s been an assistant in the NFL for a while now.
Reggie Herring was at NC State for one year. He did not recruit that defense, he did not build that defense, he did not develop that defense. The best thing he did was get out of the way. Giving him credit for that defense
is like giving Switzer credit for the Cowboys winning Super Bowl XXX, but worse. That defense was good not because of Herring, it was good because of the one thing Amato did consistently very well – recruit stud athletes who could hit and play defense.
True, it had the best ypg average, but it was far from the best defense in the country, and it should have been better. Herring did little to add structure or maximize the effectiveness of the unit as a whole. He essentially just rolled out the horses and let ’em play.
Those who remember that season know the defense was gashed by several average offenses including one in powder blue. The TA TD that was, then wasn’t, only mattered because that Wolfpack defense couldn’t stop a slow white fullback. They couldn’t stop him because the DC was a one trick poney who couldn’t make simple in game adjustments. Once an opponent found a weakness to exploit in that defense, they kept going at it. The defense rarely countered.
