Damned if doesn’t cut in…he scores.

Yep. Sitting on the 50 on that side of the field, we said the exact same thing when it happened.

I’m sure Cherry winced on that one once he saw the film.

Welcome to the Pack, Mr Smith. Kudos to the coaches. Now finish and bring it home, it’s not over till the John Hancock.

But this is horrible news for the doom and gloom, chicken little, #FireGott crowd.

The long run for a TD (the read-option around the D’s left) looked to be a communication issue within the secondary or between them and the DE.

Doeren referenced that very play Wednesday night. He confirmed the assumption… it was a communication issue between the rover/nickel back Wright and DE Rose.

    They both played the inside.

“Communication issue” was Doeren’s exact words.

    It depends.

This team, at this point of program development, a cupcake.

I’d probably answer differently in 2 to 3 years.

Ask Cutcliffe how Duke was set back when they played Alabama a 4 or 5 (?) years ago.

That stated, I believe we were originally scheduled to play LSU this year. The bought out of the contract.

And btw, I don’t know how far back the Troy Gabe was scheduled, but it wasn’t that long ago when Troy was anything but a ‘cupcake’. They upset several Power 5 schools and if memory serves correct, lost to that Ohio State program you referenced by only 10 or so points.

Gate 5, on the other side (west/left) of the Murphy Center. About a 2 min walk from gate 6.

This is clearly stated in the article you linked to. It’s how I entered the stadium Saturday.

Troy plays Wisconsin Sept 19. Though the transitive property does not apply to football, it will give us some info.

Context does NOT matter. It’s battery, a physical attack outside game play. The official IS pressing charges and both thugs deserve jail time, even if just a few weekends in the county lockup.

Participation in school sports in not a right. With this attack, they forfeit the privilege to participate, not only in football, but ALL sports.

FWIW all, don’t forget this is Neal Brown’s (Troy’s head coach) first year back at Troy. Troy had a pretty stout program when he was their OC about 8 years ago or so.

    Can I quote myself?

Anyway, I don’t expect Coach Brown will be at Troy very long. Every AD in the country should have him on their list.

Not sure what that means, just sharing.

I expect Troy’s QB, who set the NCAA freshman record for completion pct last year (over 70%), will put up big number this year.

Troy also plays Wisconsin and Miss St this year.

I was kinda lazy in my viewing, Grey. Watched more like the average fan this week, with only a marginal critical eye. And that was more macro than micro.

I watch all home games from the stands so I don’t have access to the DVR, but I do remember #91 (that’s him, right?) on a few plays. I remember because the second time he made an impression I was thinking ‘who is that guy?’, and had to look him on the roster I have on my phone. I was surprised to see he was a true freshman.

I’ll watch more critically next week, but from what I saw, I was impressed. Need more reps and competition to give a more definitive opinion, but his ability and potential project very well. He certainly appeared to deserve more than the 3 stars he was rated.

Good solid win. A perfect game is NOT want you want in game one. Still plenty for the coaches to harp about.

Defense will come along. Five plays got Troy 190 yds (2 of them long passes with great coverage, they just made a great play), but only 105 in all the others. The long run for a TD (the read-option around the D’s left) looked to be a communication issue within the secondary or between them and the DE. But anyway, the talent and scheme is there. By the time we need it, the D will be humming along just fine.

No turnovers, 1 penalty (an accidental facemask), in game one. That is coaching, folks. But not just coaching. It’s leadership, discipline, accountability, and culture… none of which just came about by accident. It goes back to why I wrote in an earlier postings that the WTF loses with this staff will be far and few between. The ankles of clay are gone.

But then, what do I know. These coaches are in over their head.

    Really?

I think the two additional public entry gates into the stadium, the pedestrian bridge over Trinity, and in-seat vending are all much more prominent.

CD and Fastback added some of the detail and rationale to my 10 win pronouncement.

But I understand those more pessimistic. It’s been a long time since the Wolfpack had this level of competence roaming the sidelines, and it’s not easily discernable frim this distance 3 years in.

But it’s there, no doubt about it.

I understand. I too have been there in person for many of them (losses at Wake).

The pre-Ohio State one I distinctly remember. But that one had nothing to do with voodoo, it was 100% coaching.

I know that because I was there and saw what the coaches were doing, not what the tv was showing.

A la Dan Reaves and John Elway, Rivers was shackled by Mazzone’s (the departed Galbraith had been OC the previous year) play calling. In almost every pass play, State would send out 3 or 4 receivers, but none deeper than 12-15 yards. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

    Over and over and over.

I got so disgusted I started sharing my thoughts out loud in exasperation, also pointing out Philip’s obvious frustration with the play calling. Soon those around also saw the idiocy and began like commentary.

The rare exception in which a receiver would run a deep route was usually preceded with Rivers looking to the sidelines, throwing his hands up in disgust, then turning his back to the sidelines as he waved off the nonsense coming in.

There was definitely some ‘stuff’ going on that game, and on the sideline too. The body language of Philip was not difficult to read when communicating with coaches.

In my opinion, it played into the early poor play the following week and the suspect play calling at the end of the game. But that’s another story.

Late in the game and several scores down, the play calling finally opened up. Furious rally ensued, but too little, too late.

Anyway, the point being State was hamstrung by coaching, again. That is the ‘voodoo’ that has plagued the Wolfpack in Winston, not some sort of black magic.

Once again, apologies to all for the above, especially PapaJohn. That was a general commentary aside, nothing directed towards him.

    Now back to football…

I expect a win at Winston-Salem. Yes, I know the history, but I also know the HISTORY.

    I also know the CONTEXT.

‘WTF’ loses are always a possibility with any team, any program. But as long as we keep Doeren, their frequency with the Wolfpack will be greatly reduced.

But then, what do I know?… Coach is in over his head.

For with Doeren, for the first time since Sheridan, the PROGRAM no longer has ankles of clay.

For you heathens out there, that’s a Biblical reference.

Well, according to this site, technically the answer is NEVER.

Well, if you want to get TECHNICAL, you are WRONG.

The Wolfpack did win 10 games in 2002. However, it did not win ONLY 10 games. 🙂

It’s called the English language. Sorry pet peeve. Nothing personal. The bastardization and misuse of words and language have almost become the norm.

Words have meanings, as do punctuation. And no, I’m not referring to obvious typos,
auto-corrects, and/or other errors resulting from mobile device use.

Season already started Wuf. Montana upset 4 time defending FCS national champion NDSU on Saturday in a great game that went down to the wire.

Wolfpack nets 10 wins in 2015, minimum.
