If we win turnover battle and prevent layup line, we will win.

I want to play Saturday!

ParticipantThe Matadors. He fits perfectly. His teams play matador defense.

ParticipantAnyone who thinks that OOC schedule doesn’t matter, simply isn’t paying attention.
Oh it clearly matters. I would argue that the committee places WAY too much emphasis on it. I’m not saying that it shouldn’t be a factor, but today it seems that it’s quite over weighted.
Should strength of your opponent of games played in November outweigh a teams’ record vs top 25?
The reason it matters to the committee is that nobody controls their conference schedule. Most teams can control their non-conference schedule to a degree.

ParticipantSyracuse made it in a couple of years ago with an RPI 70+ RPI. That I believe was the highest ever.
When I first built the RPI ranges that I use for a quick and dirty test, there was one team that had something like #75. So SYR was the second team >70 since I’ve began tracking in the days of the Herbble.
Earlier on in the season, there was a quote from the Selection Committee chairman that there had only been one team with an RPI >75 to get a bid. He didn’t mention the team or the year.
New Mexico State with an RPI of 78 iirc was something like 28-2 and regular season champs in the Ponderosa Athletic Association one year.

ParticipantAlong with OK St, here’s a little table illustrating the effect of RPI on NCAAT seeding.
If you based seeding only on big wins, the three 8/9 seeds should be seeded higher than Miami. However, a better OOC schedule gave the Canes a much better RPI ranking and a much better chance of progressing to the Sweet 16.
Anyone who thinks that OOC schedule doesn’t matter, simply isn’t paying attention.
When you look at the 1-68 and see us six slots below VT it has to be about the loss in Bleaksburg. The metrics don’t justify them being ahead of us by more than 1-2 spots if at all

ParticipantI thought Louisville was more deserving than Syracuse
How so? They were 0-11 vs the RPI Top 50. That is not likely to ever get a bid.

Eye test. I know what the issue was when it comes to metrics. I think Clemson was the best win Syracuse had so it wasn’t like they were being compared to teams with a boatload of success against Q1. I also hate Bayhime so some of it is just prejudice on my part as well.

ParticipantCuse had a non conference SOS of around 16 iirc. The committee has consistently rewarded that. It’s why St Mary’s didn’t get in according to the interview with the chairman.
What the chairman didn’t address is how can St. Mary’s schedule meaningful non conference games? Nobody will play them. That’s the issue that nobody acknowledges. So Cuse gets countless opportunities to impress while St. Mary’s gets none. Note they were ranked in the top-20 a week ago.
The quadrant system makes it easier for the mid majors to get a decent OOC game at their place. You can go on the road and play UNCG and it’s a Q1 game. It was designed to make those kinds of games happen. Houston got games with both Arkansas and LSU this year and they haven’t had near the recent success that St Mary’s has had.

ParticipantKeatts did an outstanding job this season, from cobbling together a roster to figuring out how to use them all. He rode the hot hand, he searched for the right combination, he dealt with big guy foul trouble and he bought some ice cream. He got Al Freeman to only play hero ball at the end of the shot clock. He recognized the selflessness and versatility of Torin Dorn. This team had almost no margin for error. One more loss and we’re in the NIT. The Pitt comeback. Al’s 7 for 7 performance in Cheater Hill. Markell’s cold blooded three in the Carrier Dome. They were all necessary to get us in. This team will go down as one of my all time favorite State teams for sure. Time to go beat the Pi ates. (No rrrrrr)

ParticipantCuse had a non conference SOS of around 16 iirc. The committee has consistently rewarded that. It’s why St Mary’s didn’t get in according to the interview with the chairman. I thought Louisville was better than Cuse but they had 0 Top 50 wins. I think that was Louisville’s undoing.
We won enough games against the cream of the crop that our warts (terrible OOC AND LATE LOSSES) could be explained away or overcome. The big lesson from today was that you can play your way into the field in December.
