ParticipantBoomer Esiason even alluded to the academic scandal at UNC-CH in his 30 second blurb this morning. I know the NCAA isn’t going to do anything, but it would be nice for the conventional wisdom to become one where UNC-CH played a bunch of illiterates and always managed to keep them eligible through a system of sham courses. I see support for that view just starting to build across the country. We won’t know for another 3-6 months if the national opinion of the cheaters will change. Stay tuned.

ParticipantNice post.
We are just too inconsistent to make the tournament this year. I just want to see development from the bigs. If there is any way to sign a shooter off of an intramural team I’d be in favor of that too.
If you have watched Cat Barber this year you know why I NEVER count on freshmen until they’ve played half the conference schedule. The kid is very talented and is going to be an excellent player for us eventually, but he makes a lot of classic freshman mistakes. I like the old school system where the upperclassmen start and play the bulk of the minutes while the freshmen play 10-15 minutes/games to get their feet wet. Unfortunately we don’t have that kind of depth yet even though Gott has a deeper roster in year three than Sidney ever had. If we had a really good wing shooter, we could play Lewis 25-30 minutes/game, but we need the potential of Cat’s offense on the floor to have a shot in a lot of these match-ups.
I wish Gott had taken a different approach to solving the problem of blowing late leads.
(Note to VaWolf: All of the stats in your bio match mine. The nest will be empty in August.)

ParticipantDog,
I agree with your view that Canada has a record that makes you believe he can coach. I just hope we can get enough talent on campus to take advantage of what he can do.I was very critical of Huxtable this year, but if the talent pool was as shallow as a lot of people contend it was, he may have been in a pick your poison situation all season. He gets another year for sure. The defense could look bad enough in 2014 to cost him his job. We’ll have to wait and see.

ParticipantNeed Lewis in the game to settle down the half court offense. Cat is trying to play one on three again.

ParticipantBiggio’s near miss is just one more paper cut dipped in rubbing alcohol for Astros fans. They are the best fans in Houston and they are stuck with a AA talent level team that 65% of the city can’t even watch on TV because the owner thinks their TV rights should be worth more than the Super Bowl.
Bagwell will never get in the HOF because too many people suspect him as a PED user even though his name never came up in any investigations or reports.
As for the Braves inductees, the staff of Galvine, Maddux, and Smoltz somewhat made up for the staff of Bob Walk, Rick Camp, and Frank LaCorte that I suffered through. My second favorite live sports memory was seeing Hank Aaron’s 500th HR in person.

ParticipantI watched most of the second half last night. It was the first time I have really watched UNC-CH this season. I was amazed by how bad they are on offense. I was also encouraged to see how many shots Miami blocked. Vandy and Baby Huey might get 5 blocks apiece if the refs let us play like that.

ParticipantI think we just found out that the new neighbors are cooking meth. Swofford is happy because it adds something else unseemly to the ACC and enhances the relative morality of UNC-CH.
He hired his mistress. We’re not talking about somebody who was “just” running around on his wife.
What a drippy turd.

ParticipantI remember thinking at the time that we were building the lead back up a bit with Lewis on the floor. Cat was just as good down the stretch after watching, as he was bad down the stretch against MIZZOU. It’s only a data point right now, hopefully it will become a trend after 3-4 more games.
When the guards learn how to run this offense and they have Anya, Washington and Freeman to work with on the interior we are going to be very, very, good.
Texpack
ParticipantIf Vandy just keeps doing what he’s been doing (9-12 rebounds, 3-4 blocks plus altered shots, 25 plus minutes, and 6-8 points) we will be just fine.
He’s playing only slightly below the level of Cozell McQueen which I thought was his ceiling this year. Again, Gott has done an excellent job developing a big guy who had underachieved.
Texpack
ParticipantNice win. Any road conference win is good. It is so much fun to have a team that plays tough defense on the interior. I really like the three headed monster we are developing inside to support Vandy. This may be a maddening season with the swings in performance of a team this young.
Gott deserves a ton of credit for getting their minds right after what happened on Saturday.

ParticipantAuburn was successful in their strategy to make FSU play the 4th quarter. Not sure it worked out like they thought it would.

ParticipantThank’s to DirecTV for the ESPN Full Court freebie this week. It will allow me to DVR the game while I sit in the Citizen’s meeting tonight.
Looking for Cat Barber to rebound from his horrible turnover epidemic on Saturday and play a solid floor game tonight. That’s the only way we have a chance. Pitt waxed UMd last night which offered some encouragement that we may still compete for the title of Best Mediocre Team.

ParticipantI started talking about this several weeks ago. In today’s college basketball, nobody with his pedigree sits on the bench to play 8 minutes a game, even if it’s deserved. Hopefully Gott can get him rolling and we’ll see a new TL before the season is over but I think there’s only a 2% chance that happens.

ParticipantCat looks a lot like a freshman today. He is killing us with careless ball handling.
Texpack
ParticipantPitt 80% in the 2nd half. Hard to overcome that.
Our defense has created their shooting percentage in the second half. Easy turnovers and poor transition defense will make anybody look awesome
Texpack
ParticipantAbsolutely awful defense and very careless ball handling. We are done for today. Hope to keep the margin under 25.
Texpack
ParticipantWe will have to make FTs to win.
Texpack
ParticipantI just recoil when Turner touches the ball.
Texpack
ParticipantWe just don’t have enough scorers to be a consistent team.
Texpack
ParticipantI certainly will take being up 8 at the half. Nice lift from Anya and nice solid defense on the last possession.
Texpack
ParticipantSo much for the good start
