Tau837Participant
Big miss by Finley. Should have been a 90 yard TD.
Then a near interception. Finley is 1 for his last 7. We cannot win this game if he doesn’t get back into form.
Come on Finley!
Tau837ParticipantThat was close. Regardless of the call, that was a great effort by Meyers and Finley.
At least Cole just flipped the field.
Tau837ParticipantUh oh, probably cannot withstand the loss of JaySam
Tau837Participant^Didn’t see the Clemson player blatantly grab an arm or a fistful of jersey like our DBs did on each DPI call against us. IMO the only questionable DPI call against us was the first one, since it was arguable that the ball wasn’t catchable.
Also would like to point out that playing aggressive man to man against a talented opponent necessitates some grabbing. I will exchange a few DPI penalties for no large pass plays, and that’s the situation so far.
Tau837ParticipantThis is the JaySam we were missing last week
Tau837ParticipantNice return, but that was a lot of bad tackling and pursuit angles
Tau837ParticipantLOL at Chubb taking Bryant’s towel
Tau837ParticipantNo. Sorry man, but that’s just terribly false. A free play means there are NO consequences of a risky throw.
No. Sorry man, but you that’s just terribly false. What is expected to be a free play cannot be known with 100% certainty to be a free play during the actual play. Even if a flag was thrown and seen by the QB, he cannot know with 100% certainty what the call will be. Thus, he must take care of the ball.
This cannot be argued. We have clear evidence from what happened on the play in question. So your stance here is proven wrong.
Tau837ParticipantI think the stock of Samuels may have taken a hit. Entering the game, it was going to be necessary for Samuels to be an impact players for us to win. That became even more true once Hines went down.
How did he respond? 8 carries for 9 yards and 2 catches for 21 yards. He also drew one DPI penalty. His lack of production on his opportunities is a big reason the entire offense struggled. Obviously, Notre Dame keyed on him, but it should be expected that a player of his caliber would still be able to make more plays.
Samuels already had a problem for the NFL – what is his role? He isn’t a TE in the NFL, too small. He isn’t a fullback, as he has not played a blocking role in college. He isn’t a primary RB, because he hasn’t run the ball enough in college. IMO his role is likely to be a third down back.
Regardless, a big game on the national stage in front of a lot of scouts could have elevated his draft stock. Instead, his stock probably slipped.
Tau837ParticipantOne thing for sure Finley’s NFL draft stock took a nose dive yesterday.
I don’t think that is necessarily true. He was playing on the road against a very good defense. He didn’t play great, but he didn’t play poorly. How many pass deflections did ND have yesterday, half a dozen? more? That is at least half a dozen passes on the mark that were not completed. Finley was mostly putting the ball where it needed to be, and he stood in and delivered a number of times knowing he was going to take a shot.
The interception didn’t look good, but that is still his first interception in more than 300 passes.
Now, I don’t really know what to think of Finley’s NFL draft stock in the first place. But whatever it was, I doubt it changed at all due to this game.
Tau837Participantline froze, why did Finley throw short? Thought that if you think free play you went deep?
Probably because our line froze but ND’s did not and there were several defenders closing fast on Finley. Still a bad play by Finley there; if he can’t get the ball deep enough there, he has to throw it out of bounds, free play or not. The idea of a free play does not mean you don’t need to take care of the ball.
Tau837ParticipantPleased to see ND take a knee to run out the clock at this point and pleased we did not give up another score.
Tau837ParticipantI hope getting thoroughly dominated in this game doesn’t hurt the team’s confidence for next week
Tau837ParticipantNot impressed with our coaching staff today
Tau837ParticipantEff Notre Dame for throwing deep with a 21 point lead. I’d really like to see Chubb get a clean shot on the QB before this is over.
Tau837ParticipantWTF running Gallaspy on 3rd and 6 in that field position where we aren’t going for it on 4th down? Has the coaching staff given up?
Tau837ParticipantNotre Dame’s defense is really good, and they came in with a great gameplan. They have effectively taken away both the running game (2.0 ypc) and our short passing game. Obviously the Hines injury is a factor, but their defense has played really well.
Meanwhile, their running game has dominated – 222 rushing yards and 2 TDs, averaging 6.9 ypc.
I was not expecting this, but our team looks outclassed.
Tau837ParticipantWhy this was glossed over by the commentators
It is a Notre Dame homer broadcast
Tau837ParticipantWow. Expected QB keeper or JaySam there. Or even some kind of rollout option.
Tau837ParticipantDoes helmet not count? If not, then no offside. I don’t know the rule
Of course helmet counts. His head was in the neutral zone. Should have been a penalty.
Tau837ParticipantAnd NBC didn’t even show it from the side on the replay. I hate having to watch this game on NBC. It may have been legit but I can’t tell
You could see it live. I just rewound and looked again. BS no call. I hate blaming refs, but it feels like we are not playing on an even playing field today.
Tau837ParticipantDefense was in the neutral zone on that play, no call
Tau837ParticipantAm I missing some inside joke on Gillispie? His name is Gallaspy.
Also, he had 1 good run so far. Some of you seem to be overestimating how well he played on his 3 carries.
Tau837ParticipantThat was a BS call. Both players put one hand on the other. The refs are not doing us any favors today.
Tau837Participant9 penalties already. Probably cannot win this game committing 20+ penalties. Enough already.
