Bad time for MJ’s worst decision of the day. That turnover could be the clincher.

We must have set a team record for layups allowed in a game today. Tough to watch.

Probably will need at least 2 more threes to win this game

Why isn’t it a foul on Maye when he bumps MJ off his line coming off the screen?

That was clearly a foul, but Markell still got us a great look.

WTF? This is a layup drill for UNC

I thought there were at least 4 out of bounds plays where the ball went to UNC and I thought it should have gone to State. And the ref calling timeout to negate our man advantage was total BS.

That said, I have to say that the officiating has been fairer than I expected. We were only called for 7 fouls, with none called on Yurt.

My biggest concern is that we are 6/11 on 3 pointers and UNC is 1/11. I’m afraid those numbers will start to even out in the second half, which could really swing the game.

Can’t believe UNC has missed so many 3 pointers. Can’t count on that to continue.

This puts him squarely in the hunt for a Heisman

    No chance.

His numbers won’t be nearly compelling enough – Heisman winner Mayfield had 4627 passing yards and 43 passing TDs this season, compared to Finley’s 3514 and 17.

Over the past 10 years, a QB won the Heisman 8 times, and the lowest number of TDs for any of them was Winston’s 44 in 2013 (40 passing, 4 rushing).

We need another JaySam! … He is easily one of the top 5 players ever at State

I love JaySam, but I don’t think he is top 5 ever. Just off the top of my head, was he really better than at least 7 of these players?

    Roman Gabriel
    Philip Rivers
    Russell Wilson
    Ted Brown
    Torry Holt
    Jim Ritcher
    Dennis Byrd
    Bill Yoest
    Dick Christy
    Mario Williams
    Bradley Chubb

The first 10 of these are in the ring of honor at Carter-Finley, and Chubb just won ACC DPOY, Nagurski, and Hendricks awards and was named 1st team AA. I’m sure there are others.

All that said, JaySam was a great player for us and will be missed. I hope he finds an impactful role in the NFL.

I am from Greensboro and my Mom’s family is from High Point. Whenever anyone in the family returns to that area for a visit, myself included, we always go to Kepley’s on Main Street for barbecue. I’m planning to go there during my Christmas visit to my Mom.

We last lived in Raleigh in 2003, but we travel back periodically for my wife to get medical treatment at Duke. Old favorites in the Triangle that were still great the last time we visited are:

    Nana’s in Durham
    Fearrington House Restaurant in Pittsboro
    Cloos’ Coney Island in Raleigh
    Amedeo’s in Raleigh

I lived in Virginia Beach for 11 years after Raleigh. Favorites there:

Pelon’s – my favorite Mexican food anywhere, and I currently live in San Diego
    Doc Taylor’s – brunch
One Fish Two Fish – seafood
    Mahi Mah’s – seafood

San Diego has a huge number of excellent restaurants, but there are a couple of favorites in Ocean Beach:

South Beach Bar and Grill – dive bar with great fish tacos
Hodads – great burgers, usually a line out the door

OTOH, RW could have stopped chasing his baseball pipe dream and committed 100% to NC State football

IMO this theme, which is often repeated, is off base. Wilson had never been a part of spring practice while at State. He was always playing baseball. TOB saying he had to be at spring football practice prior to his 5th season in the program in order to even compete for the starting job in the fall was not consistent with how TOB treated the same issue throughout Wilson’s career at State.

Was Wilson not committed 100% to State football in his 4 years in the program? When he was the starting QB for 3 years?

Rye – how did it work out for us when Sendek left?

Apples and oranges IMO. We have reasons to believe that we should have higher potential in MBB than is reasonable to believe we have in football. Even more so during Sendek’s tenure, when we were 2 coaches and a witch hunt away from V and being on relatively equal footing with ACC basketball powers UNC and Duke, something we have never really enjoyed in football (at least in my lifetime).

IMO a lot of our fans are underrating this season’s performance. By multiple rankings, we played a top 20 schedule: #10, #13, #19. To go 8-4 against that schedule, and being in every game but one until the end is impressive… especially for NC State, considering the past 15 years of on field results.

This was DD’s first team where the entire roster was his. It seems that recruiting is on an upward trend. Those things make it seem unlikely we will see a significant regression going forward.

On offense, we definitely lose 3 starters: Adams, Samuels, and Cook. Those players will be missed, but, if Finley returns, we should have a great offense. If he goes pro, I will be less optimistic.

Defense will definitely be more of a challenge, but it seems unlikely that our LBs and defensive backfield will be significantly worse than this year, and they could actually be better. DL will not be as good, but, barring unexpected underclassmen departures, I expect it will still be solid. A possible improvement over Hux could also help to offset the player loss.

And hopefully any regression in defense will be at least partly offset by improved special teams (read: placekicking).

I don’t expect 8-4/6-2 next season, but I don’t expect much worse than that.

Tau, going back and watching the play again the ref makes the signal with his hands to stop the clock when Finley ran out of bounds. Watching it again shows he clearly runs out of bounds there. You can go read the idiots on Inside Carolina who are mad as hell at Fedora for burning a time out there as well. Either way, Finley draft stock isn’t going up after today’s game.

Troll, you should go back and watch the play again yourself. When you do, notice that Fedora is standing right beside the ref who makes the signal to stop the clock, and further notice that he says something to him immediately. The ref signaled to stop the clock because Fedora told him he was taking the timeout. You know why he told him that? Because he was standing right there, right beside the ref and the play, and clearly saw that Finley went down in bounds. As anyone could see who watched the replay.

Not sure why any State fan would ever choose to spend time reading Inside Carolina, nor give any credence to what they post there. No thanks.

I don’t know why you have some bizarre obsession about Finley’s draft stock. I don’t recall anyone in this forum ever posting anything particularly positive about him as a prospect. I have responded to you about it multiple times and consistently said that I see him as a mid round draft pick at best if he enters the 2018 draft, and I have never posted anything after any game about his NFL draft stock going up.

I have found multiple mock drafts that show him going in the first and second round of the 2018 draft, though. I posted them in the Wake game thread, the last time we had this discussion. I don’t put much stock in them, but that shows that some people think he has potential.

The real question is, why is it seemingly important to you to bash our QB after every game? We did just beat UNC. Why is it necessary to bash him?

    Woooo GO PACK!

@tau837, I’m not gonna argue with you after we just beat UNC. You can argue with someone else if you’d like and write to your favorite NFL team’s owner to be sure and draft Finley to your team.

I have already said to you multiple times that I think Finley is a marginal NFL QB. Just because I respond when you inappropriately trash our QB doesn’t mean I think he is an elite QB.

You seem incapable of actually having a reasonable discussion about it, so I’m fine agreeing to disagree.

His football IQ was outstanding on the play in question, so not really a good example to support your constant need to criticize him and his NFL potential.

He ran within an inch of the out of bounds line when trying to run the clock out. That’s not being outstanding. I can guarantee the coaches weren’t praising him for that.

He ran as much time off the clock as possible and purposely went down in bounds. It wasn’t an accident, he wouldn’t have gone to the ground if he was intent on running out of bounds. You appear to have a bias against him that you can’t see through.

Finley is not that bright when it comes to end of half management. His draft stock continues to sink IMO.

If you are talking about him going out of bounds, he didn’t. That’s why UNC called timeout.

Well that’s good.. he sure as hell just about ran out of bounds. His football IQ and his down field throws are not NFL caliber. He’s a good college QB though.

Why run out of bounds? Moronic!

He didn’t. The announcer was wrong. That’s why UNC called timeout. It was actually a very nice play by Finley given he had no running lane. He strung it out to the sideline then went down in bounds.

There is another bad call that went against UNC. So it has gone both ways today. Just bad officiating all the way around.

Off the top of my head, I can remember several bad calls today, both sides:

    2nd DPI call against State
    OPI call against State
Roughing the passer call against UNC
    OPI call against UNC
Holding call against State in the end zone

There were probably others, there have been so many penalties. And we didn’t even see all of the penalties on replay to judge them.

That holding call was weak, but so was the OPI call against UNC. Pretty much a wash.
