Well, Lutz was honest about it but he had relatively decent success at Charlotte, so he thinks it can be done. Just need the right guy, we all know that much.

Pretty good interview, does not poor mouth at all.

Those dumbarse trolling articles are good for yuk yuks with the blues but won’t scare any potential coaches in the least. Anyone in basketball can clearly see that Gott failed miserably in his job this past season due to gross mismanagement.

    1 Miller
    2 Marshall
    3 Collins
    4 Martin

Gauge interest in that order. If none bite, then just offer Keats or someone on that 3rd tier by week 2. Done deal.

And the biggest thing that ticks me off about us is this constant fear of ridicule from over the hill (media, or really over the hill). You have to be bold and go against the grain. Don’t live your life or institutional life in a fear of backlash or ridicule. Just keep about your business and go forth. This is how true conquerors operate.

“It has been a privilege to serve as head coach of NC State, and I’m proud of what we have accomplished during my time here,” said Gottfried. “NC State is a special place and I appreciate the opportunity to finish the remainder of the season.” – Gott

This is classy guys. He leaves with dignity intact IMO.

“NC State has confirmed that Mark Gottfried has been fired as head coach. He will coach the rest of the season.”

Well, good I guess. Weird, but whatever.

If she is hard to work for that is one thing. If it is lack of money, resources, moral support, or whatever, then that is a different story altogether.

Either way, from the top (i.e., Chancellor) we need to sufficiently understand the true challenges we face in the coaching marketplace, make the appropriate corrections, and then effectively communicate within the coaching circles.

Since perception is reality, let’s create a better perception. Wonder if Carolina’s PR firm has some extra time?

Perception is reality but often on of the greatest human errors is the notion that things won’t change. The powerful will always be powerful etc… Things always change, always, always. They always do. We can be successful. There is no birthright to success anywhere. We just have to make it happen. We are no more inept as a university than anywhere else. It’s not like we are a bunch of retards. Everybody makes mistakes from the top to the bottom. The perception is based on history, but the future is not set.

Don’t throw it to anyone. That is only done if one thinks there is a season to salvage, or that the person who it is thrown to might be a potential successor. This should be a complete flush with everyone involved (outside of the S&C coach) gone.

I agree with this. As tempting as it is to chop off a head midseason, it will not make the search go faster. At least now there is plausible deniability. The media will try to sabotage anything. They will write negativity about the school when we have played by the rules for 30 straight years. Blow them off and say we have a coach. Begin the prelims now but we can’t talk to anybody seriously until mid march no matter what.

Firing him midseason accomplishes zero. The leak accomplished what a midseason firing would. Nobody is going to talk serious right now about the job, especially guys going to the tourney. You guys have to quit worrying about the media or UNC fans because they are not our friends no matter what.

Miami has had a better MBB program over the past 10-15 years than NC State. That is sad.

Oh, many programs have. In addition to Miami, look at FSU. Notre Dame. Look at UVA, who are WELL positioned for the next decade or so.

It’s why I roll my eyes at the “Well it is so hard to win because of Duke and UNC” comments. Hasn’t seemed to bother these juggernauts.

YUP. It isn’t like football, where recruiting is primarily regional, and 4 teams make the national tournament. Being in a strong league/area actually HELPS you get more attention and media coverage, actually.

Name another school that is sabotaged from it’s own hometown, campus, and actual athletic department because of loyalty to a neighbor 30 minutes away. It’s not just the game day competition.

I would say if Goodman’s source isn’t an immediate family member it’s probably not rock solid and things could change.

My semi-educated read is that if we don’t get Arch it will be about (i) money; and/or (ii) the lack of professionalism in how we run things here.

I think the bottom line will be the money and how hard it is to win here relative to the pressure. In other words, how long will he get the money and will the job eventually ruin his career. All the other crap is way secondary. Raleigh, NC is a nice place to live.

If Goodman’s source is the dad or bro, he’s probably correct. Otherwise I’d say the true feelings towards our job of the Millers (including those of the wife) are unknowable.

I’m pretty happy knowing he’s gone. Can’t figure why yall are running scared. Sounds like he was almost canned but wasn’t. They got the buyout together. Great! You all are assuming all kinds of negativity. Why bother?

Leaks always happen, there were leaks in Obama’s and Trump’s White House. I don’t see any down side to any of this. Its standard procedure.

Well, it takes it down a notch. You get pasted by 30 by everyone and people are rightly pissed that take these things seriously. I don’t see a downside except the media talks. They will talk either way. Mark has to answer tough questions, but that is happening, and who cares, it’s his fault anyway.

We deny, deny, deny, then he’s gone after ACC tourney.

Likely an intentional leak to calm down the rabble rousers from booing during the last few games. He will coach out, but he definitely gone. Not a bad strategy, leak, then deny like hell. Kills many boo birds with a single stone.

Maybe there will be a little rally. Who knows. But he gone.

I’m comparing Collins to others who would have no clue what they are getting into as far as the ACC is concerned. I prefer Archie as well.

NW hasn’t had a winning conf. record since 1968. NW has NEVER been to the NCAA tourney and had their first 20 win season LAST YEAR. You need to keep what Collins is doing in perspective. NW is the worst program in the P5.

Collins won at Wisconsin last night. 19-6, 4th in Big ten currently.
