The governments “job” is not to bully private businesses with 80+ year historical names. The first coach of the Redskins was an Indian and the team was named to honor him.

Nobody is being personally “called” a “Redskin”. Why is that so hard to understand? Which talking head did you pick that talking point up from?

Maybe an old school Atlanta Crackers hat instead.

This makes me want to go out and buy official Redskins gear.

You are missing the point NAV. The point is not to go up to so someone and call them a “name”. When approaching ANYBOY other than a child it should be Sir or Ma’am. We are talking about a team name. It can be argued that the team name is not out of mockery but out of respect.

I reject the perpetual victim status of minority groups. We are all individuals and are all equal in the sight of the laws of the USA and in sight of God. It really does not matter who your parents were. If you were born here you are a native. Everyone has the same opportunity.

Would you support a team name mocking another religion besides Christianity? Do you know why “Fighting Irish” while being derogatory is not offensive? Because Irish don’t evaluate their self worth based on a team mascot. It’s pathetic and ridiculous.

The term is most prominent in the name of the Washington Redskins, a National Football League football team. The team was founded in 1932 and was originally known as the Boston Braves, for their landlords, the baseball team called the Boston Braves. In 1933 the name was changed to the synonymous Boston Redskins when the team left Braves Field for Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox. Some accounts state that the name “Redskins” was chosen to honor William “Lone Star” Dietz, who began coaching in 1933, because his mother was Sioux. Dietz’s true heritage has been questioned by some scholars, citing a birth certificate and census records that his parents were white.[56] There were four Native Americans on the original Redskins team of 1933.[57] In 1937 the team moved and joining Capitol Hill as the second football team of Washington, D.C., became the Washington Redskins.[58]

A 2002 poll commissioned by Sports Illustrated found that 75% of those American Indians surveyed had no objection to the Redskins name.

Why is it despicable? Chiefs, Braves, Indians, Vikings, Fighting Irish, are they despicable? What about Saints making a mockery of the Christian faith?

Native American? If you were born in USA, you ARE a native American.

If there ever was a case of sure fire mockery of something billions of people worldwide hold dear to their heart, its the Saints.

I wouldn’t change the name and wouldn’t care what the PC police thought. Cowboys, Vikings, Raiders, Patriots, Texans, 49ers, Steelers, Saints, Buccaneers, Chiefs, etc all refer to people and are potentially offensive.

The D. Dog is way too low. 7 final fours, 20 straight NCAA’s, 2 titles all the while overseeing the biggest cheating scam in NCAA history. You think it’s easy keeping all them fools quiet?

It’s GOTT to be an oversight. I don’t see how we have a legit top 50 perhaps top 25-30 program going to 3 straight NCAA’s, one sweet 16, an ACC POY, but have a below top 75 coach. They either really don’t like GOTT and think we deserve better or just forgot about lil ole NC State. And its funny to see Hoiberg above Deputy Dog. Who the heck is Fred Hoiberg????

I like it. Its more aggressive. We need to get out of the “good ole boy” mindset because frankly, we were kicked out of that club. We have a nice beginning of a rivalry with Syracuse. I wanted out of the ACC, looks like this is the best I’ll get. Forward.

Clemson is not the worst job in the ACC, but have to be close to the bottom. They have a natural advantage over exactly one program, VT. They do seem to have a decent place to play, though never attended. Not sure what they have to lose unless Brownell is coming at a super bargain relative to his results.

Need more sign out sheets, tudors (sic), license plates, and freak ‘um dresses. We need to create a “buzz” about the program. This day in age it seems there is no bad publicity. The world has passed us fogies by. People wanting us to be vanilla like Bama or Penn state have no clue IMO. Will. Not. Happen.

Understand 1.21. I also think things can snowball. I have to admit I didn’t watch much football last year. I’m hopeful even if it’s a poor to mediocre team we can get a little traction with DD. I don’t blame him for trying the helmets or whatever. Quite honestly we should probably be pushing the envelope a little more with respect to what tactics our peers employ. But that’s just me. Everyone knows we are fighting guns with knives.

^Dick Sheridan and Lou Holtz ain’t walking through that door. And they both quit on us anyway. Not fired, quit. Current guy might go down, but it seems he will go down swinging as he should. Hopefully this will drum up interest because right now it’s pretty moribund.

The Celtics and Lakers have fans and are in prime locations. I would rather be a Clipper or almost anything than be in Minn.

I’m just a fan. He could easily be 1st AA, NPOY would be up for grabs. As for happy ending, why not us? He sure is better than anyone UCONN had this year.

Don’t see a downward trajectory for him. Next logical step would be up the 3 point %, not impossible. If he could nail that at 40% clip, he could easily avg 30.

If I was him, I would leave with guarantee from Celtics or Lakers.
