StateRed44Participant
I agree with Fergus above, nice post. We are capable if we get hot and can somehow manage defense and rebounding. Also Smith Jr. MUST improve his shot selection and tempo. But I’d expect if we get into the NCAA’s were going to need 3 upsets in a row to get to an elite 8.
StateRed44Participantok, so moving forward….at least we haven’t lost to a certified cupcake yet. Lots of teams have. Lets try to weather this crap storm and right the ship until we get our full roster back. When that comes back we may need to hang on for dear life, but we know he has it in him to motivate. IF if if he can get them to buy in defensively and there are no further crappy depth issues (fingers crossed) we can still have a good year IMO.
StateRed44ParticipantI hear you. It’s just frustrating watching this bad basketball. How does a guy like Gott get to this level being that bad at coaching fundamentals? How did they let BJ get that size? We really miss Freeman and Mav. Hopefully Omer being coached in Europe has better habits. I like Gott and want him to succeed. But if not now then when? Mix Gott and Herb and we’d have a great coach it seems.
StateRed44ParticipantLikely make the sweet 16?? That’s rich after watching us play so far. Omer would have to be Wilt Chamberlain for us to have a likely sweet 16 team.
StateRed44ParticipantWow, that game last night was concerning. If something doesn’t get straightened out soon, things could go south big time in a hurry. I hope he has something up his sleeve because with the talent on this team his coaching is being EXPOSED!

StateRed44ParticipantAS far as the zone, I don’t think it would have helped, but sure why not try it a little more. Nothing to lose the way that game went.
StateRed44ParticipantDorn, Abu, Smith Jr, M Johnson are all better on the break. When we get full strength I am hoping we can run teams ragged like we got run last night. If we can hurry the other team up it also helps our defense too. Quick shots by an opponent help a poor defensive team. We will never guard like UVA. Go back and look at his (Gott’s) greatest wins though. He can get them to play good defense.
I don’t know if we should have kept running last night. Quick shots no, but on fast breaks, absolutely. I think that’s what he wants to do generally, so that’s what we did. There was a sequence also where we almost go back into the game, cut it to 9 I think on 2 possesions with the ball and couldn’t convert. I’d like to have seen it slow down on important possessions, yes. That’s on DSJr I think. That’s what I mean by him needing to get better.
I can see your point about getting chippy. I agree we’ve been passive. Maybe I’m just being paranoid about refs misinterpreting our players against “some” teams.
StateRed44ParticipantAt this point I’m thinking 10 losses and hopeful to avoid the dreaded 8-9 slot.
StateRed44ParticipantOther opinions, Smith Jr is good but needs to watch his chippyness. If he plays like that all year he will get a Technical at some point, hopefully not inopportune. Two dust ups in 2 games. Sometimes has bad body language. I’m nit picking, but he needs to get better all around to be what he was touted. Still likely our best player in waiting.
Abu just doesn’t have the hands to be great. He’s a hold your breath player. Omer will help because he can pass firstly and hit the shot (to be seen). Defensively, you can’t teach 7 feet. Kapita will be a monster if the one game was real and not a dream. Mav would have helped some last night, but defense aint his bag either.
StateRed44Participant^That’s a good. but sobering post. It seems we can only improve defensively. At times last night it seemed we were up against the Golden State Warriors. Not sure how that small forward of theirs torched us so bad from behind the arc, but frankly it seemed like every guy they had could produce offensively. They were a very good team. If they aren’t top 10 at some point this season it would shock me. They seemed better than even a Kansas or Villanova type team. Not much room for improvement for them. Defense can usually improve for us during the year though. I don’t remember many games in late Feb or March when we were complaining about defense under Gott.
StateRed44ParticipantI want to see more effort and hustle out of this team. It seems to me his teams exhibit that late in the season. If we can get that energy earlier this year, with our offensive talent, we should have a very good season. I’m banking on a loss tomorrow tho.
StateRed44ParticipantGood grief this pisses me off. Creighton just beat Wisconsin.
StateRed44Participantexcellent points McCallum
StateRed44ParticipantThe things I associate Carter with are malaise, a killer rabbit, Panama canal gifting, and Iranian hostage ineptitude. Well, besides the terrible economy.
StateRed44ParticipantThe only thing the mainstream Republicans could learn would be to secure then GD borders. And frankly most of them came around to Trump’s way of thinking on illegals as the race went on.
StateRed44ParticipantAs my conservative wolven friend said, “I grudgingly sort of hope (HillyBob) wins, because while she’s a criminal, she’s at least sane. But I can’t stand for having my name associated with her election.”
And I think that’s a completely fair, reasoned take on it. It’s not where I come out on the issue, but I understand where he’s coming from. I would be in a similar position if Sanders had won, it would be Johnson or nobody (since I can’t write in my cat in NC, though I have in the past for lower offices when no candidate had earned my vote).
As I noted above, I think the Presidential undervote will be pretty significant. We will see if one or both parties learn anything or not.
You’ve completely missed the boat if you think the Republican establishment wanted Trump to win the primary. He was probably the least favored of the party out of the 17 who ran.
StateRed44Participant(Clinton OR Trump) over the American People by 100.
Yeah, the people are the losers. I am not sure I will even vote for the first time since I turned 18.
Ugh. Two awful human beings. I don’t understand how hey were nominated. The quick answer to that, Trump won on immigration and Clinton won by a rigged primary.
StateRed44ParticipantHow do you support “demonstrations” when people are in the middle of the street halting civilization? Violence or not this is criminal activity.
StateRed44ParticipantGuy is 0-2 vs ECU. Its really not unreasonable to fire him over that alone. There’s not another school in the SEC or ACC outside of Wake Forest that would keep a coach doing that.
StateRed44ParticipantI’d be fine with a top SEC or Clemson assistant at this point. This is how FSU and Clemson went, and look at them.
StateRed44ParticipantMaybe it is laughable I don’t know, but he probably will take a step down I would think. He would be a significant upgrade here and really shake things up for us I would think. Why not us?
StateRed44ParticipantThe Foxy was a fine place in its day.
When Squirt got booted for spraying breast milk on the patrons by the health department, that was the day it all started to decline.
McCallum
wow, that musta been something else
StateRed44ParticipantI don’t know how being 0-2 against ECTC could not get you fired, barring a miracle against a top 10 opponent.
StateRed44ParticipantWinning college football is a business. If you want “the feels” just follow the Olympic sports. It’s all a sham anyway, UNC has shown the way to win. Outside of some sort of Dabo Swinney fluke miracle hire, I just don’t believe there is a choir boy within our grasp who could win here. Now bring in the guy who you know will do it.
