We’ve made the point many times that Gottfried has generally won the ‘transfer in’ game. (Not sure that is true if you include those that left early and were not successful enough to merit leaving early – CJ Leslie, Trevor Lacey, Lorenzo Brown, maybe Cat Barber.)
Nonetheless, I think you might be missing the importance of cohesion and chemistry and stability in this equation. Generally speaking, I’d rather have the same talent in one player stay for 4 years than to have the same talent spread across 2 or 3 players over a 4 year period. That’s just me.
05/19/2016 at 4:58 PM in reply to: NC State Basketball Scholarship Distribution & Discussion #103637StateFansKeymasterSo weird how bringing a factual, analytical, forward thinking conversation to the forefront is considered ‘Chicken Little’. What actual points in the comments are not applicable?
I think BJD makes a FANTASTIC point about trying to bring a ‘typical’ approach to an atypical coach and operating model. I don’t disagree with that. I also don’t disagree with the comments that Gottfried deserves credit for his ability to attract talent. Of course, he would NOT have to always be attracting talent if he could figure out a way to RETAIN the talent that he originally attracted.
With that said — we now have 5 years of on the floor performance (plus his 14 years prior to State) to know exactly what the Gottfried model produces. I think it is just good enough. But, I also see no reason to think that we will ever remotely be really good for anything that looks like a consistent amount of time. And, the point of some of these comments is to point out WHY we aren’t consistently ‘really good’. It’s not mean or ‘negative’. It just is what it is. But, like I say, I think it is generally ‘good enough’.

Not in off-season mode quite yet! This was just interesting to me.
StateFansKeymasterMore along the lines of #5. Whitt was moved to knew role before the season even started. He’s just not one of Gott’s guys. Moxley had the health issue, so this move makes some sense.
Gottfried wanted/tried to bring in Dina Gaudio when he was first pulling together the staff five years ago. I feel like that would be a great move again if he could pull it off.
General speaking, I don’t see ANY move with assistants really impacting Gottfried’s/State’s porous defensive philosophy. Gott has coached for 25 years with the exact same poor defensive results.
StateFansKeymasterIt was all God??.Thanking everyone for the prayers and support. Im in good health mentally and physically. Focusing on this upcoming season

StateFansKeymasterCarolina Hurricanes average per game home attendance (and percent occupancy) through the years
2008-09: 16,573 (88.7%)
2009-10: 15,241 (81.6%)
2010-11: 16,471 (88.2%)
2011-12: 16,043 (85.9%)
2012-13: 17,560 (94.0%)
2013-14: 15,484 (82.9%)
2014-15: 12,716 (68.1%) – through 23 gamesStateFansKeymasterUnfortunately, at least 3 of those Roy wins were RIDICULOUS travesties of officiating — not just the normal death by a thousand cuts like yesterday.
StateFansKeymasterI know that it is a trend, but that is still a pretty big group for early enrollment.
StateFansKeymasterWith Uremovich’s departure, doesn’t it seem as though Ledford would be lined up as Offensive Line coach replacement as opposed to offensive coordinator?
I know absolutely nothing. Just asking.
Also worth nothing…Ledford played in college for Steve Logan, whose boss in San Francisco got fired yesterday.
Lol! It’s fun to play these games!
StateFansKeymasterThanks for the update on Lembo. Total brain fart
StateFansKeymasterWufpacker – great points.
I chose to include that quote b/c I think it is telling and opens up a broader conversation about Doeren as a leader and his effectiveness.
I *think* Doeren can be successful. I also think that some of his weaknesses have been exposed and the comment about having to re-jigger the staff at this point in his tenure is related to this. I think Doeren might have been a tad too self-confident at times and has been a bit stubborn about some things, including his staff.
I also think this is where solid AD leadership helps us tremendously as he won’t be on an island. He will have financial and all sorts of other support from the AD that will help enhance his chances of coming out of this better than before.
StateFansKeymasterTMD11, why are you making the assumption that defense is NOT going to be addressed? I don’t understand the arbitrary connection of two mutually exclusive items.
StateFansKeymasterWufpacker — I’m not sure I understand what you’re seeing/experiencing here. Most reaction I see is kind’ve matter-of-fact and doesn’t seem to be critical of DD at all.
I’d rather try to focus on the topic more than worry about reactions from various pockets of the fanbase which, of course, isn’t going to be consistent.
If nothing else, the move will inject a little energy and curiosity into the program. It will also be interesting to see if the new OC can bring with him some skill-position recruits (WRs?) and/or JUCO players that can provide some immediate help.
StateFansKeymasterI’m willing to bet that Debbie will do what is needed to show support to Doeren to enable him to bring in some talented coaches without the fear of being one and done.
StateFansKeymasterThis is a fantastic conversation! EXACTLY what sets SFN apart from all of the other monkey boards staffed with nothing more than snarky pre-pubescent victims whose knowledge base extends no more than five years.
StateFansKeymasterthe ‘problem’ with football — well, any sporting event really — is that we don’t know the impact that a play has on how everything else happens.
Yes, they scored when they needed….but, WOULD they have been able to do that if our confidence was higher and there’s was lower…or, would they have called the same plays that allowed that created those results if the situation and score on the board was different.
That play was insane. I don’t think there is any doubt that our guy touched Williams. I think the refs standing at the play were close enough to realize that it wasn’t a ‘hit’ and that Williams was acting some. The fact that the ref from (literally) FORTY yards away felt as though he could see it and chose to throw that flag was insane.
StateFansKeymaster^ Couldn’t agree more. I was so irate that the arguments that ensued for me with UNC fans around me had me acting in a way that embarrassed me.
StateFansKeymasterWas wondering about this over the Thanksgiving break. Since there is little chance he would be staying for 4 years, then I don’t know why we WOULDN’T consider this (IF HE WERE HEALTHY). Don’t know anything about his health.
The key for our season will continue to be how well we can do/how we can hold on with Terry Henderson injured. If we can get into conference season with just 2 losses it would be a miracle and we are clearly an NCAA Tournament team. If we can do it with 3 (maybe 4 losses) then we have a chance.
StateFansKeymasterStateFansKeymasterThere is NO DOUBT that Debbie Yow has orchestrated a renaissance for our non-revenue sports. It is so much fun to be good again in so many of our historical strengths.
StateFansKeymasterThis stuff seems to happen with far less frequency in Raleigh than in most places. The kid is a 19 year old and has made one mistake as far as we know. It isn’t the end of the world.
StateFansKeymasterDuke did get hosed on the last play…
… But Miami got hosed on the last drive and Duke would’ve never been ahead if the officials hadn’t royally screwed up that drive with 3 or 4 or even 5 penalties on the Hurricanes.
Hell…I don’t even think Duke actually scored a touchdown with six seconds left. That guy wasn’t in And they didn’t have adequate replay angles to even judge the play correctly. They had no more timeouts. The game would’ve ended with Miami ahead of the officials hadn’t incorrectly given Duke a touchdown.
StateFansKeymasterIf we can avoid injuries….then there Is no reason to believe we will be anything other than dangerous come March with our fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
StateFansKeymasterI was wrong about Duke-GT. Duke was ready today.
