Athleticism was not one of them.
@bill.onthebeach, BARBER is one of the key reasons we have won the games we have. These passive-aggresive digs at individual players are cheap and old. Comment on a particular play, decision, past games, etc. But don’t try in one broad, obscure swath to chastise a player.I still can’t get over the double team on Thomas, letting Miller-McIntyre run free, and then have no one near the rim with blocking capabilities to at least alter the shot.
That does it for me. Mark Gottfried is the worst head coach in the ACC. The man just does not know basketball. We have two above-average shot blockers on our team in Vandenberg and Anya, and he has them both on the bench at the end of the game. Then designs a piss-poor full-court press, with both men going to a power forward 60 feet away from the basket. I have zero confidence in him doing anything for this University. Another Herb Sendek in my book with greasier hair and better recruiting. There is a reason he couldn’t hack it as an SEC coach. There are loads of reason he can’t hack it in the ACC.
I count 14 of 23 from the line. Too much time spent practicing the RunOnePlayerAlongTheBaselineWhileFourOthersStandAround play and not practicing free throws.
Zero momentum right now. We don’t know how to draw fouls. It’s infuriating. Des passes when he shouldn’t driving the lane. And Warren tries too much finesse movement underneath instead of going into players’ bodies. Result? We foul and can’t get fouled. Meanwhile, Turner is taking shots that makes me think there is only a second left on the shot clock.

Lol. Nowhere close the shooter Wood was. I like Turner’s athleticism and defense much more, though.
Welp. So much for our defense. This one is going to be a grinder it seems. Need to get the guys settled down. Interested to see how Gottfried handles these next 4 minutes.
Gotta say, I feel relieved that we were able to mount a comeback and take the lead. Wake came out smokin’ hot, but the guys didn’t get down on themselves.
Still not happy about the free throw shooting. I don’t know exactly, but I guess we’re probably around 60% in the first half. Watching for foul trouble in the second half.
Wake doesn’t have an elite PG or a go-to swingman, the two positions that kill us. By the same token, they are equally vanilla on the defensive end.

Gottfried gave up on his team when they couldn’t “play through.” Bobby Lutz is probably looking at himself in the mirror, questing, “How did I end up the #2 at NC State?”
Hahahahaha. Gottfried has given up on this game. We had it down to 21 points and he sits on 4 timeouts. God, he pathetic as an in-game coach.
I have seen YMCA coaches teach better basketball than Gottfried. He throws in a few Wooden quotes and gives good speeches. But without NBA-type talent he falls flat on his face. He is consistently out coached and by the looks of it, has lost his touch as a motivator.
Welp, guys, this looks like it’s going to be a win. Sure doesn’t feel like one, though. My oh my, the life of a Pack fan.
God, we just show absolutely zero heart and effort. I think my 80 year old grandma could have scored there.
