There was no lack of institutional control, the Cheats knew exactly what they doing. There was complete institutional control at the flagship.
Red BaronParticipantEasy explanation Grey. UVA played their game. They ran the clock down limiting the number of possessions. Once the clock ran down they drove to the basket for layups, or when the D loosened up to prevent that, Perrantes stepped back and buried 3s. UVA scored right where they always do in the 70s. They only had one game where they scored more than 80 points and that was early season against Grambling State. UVA’s D did what they’ve been doing all year but UNCW was a very good offensive team. True, UNCW got a few steals in the mid-court area by pressuring but once UVA got into a half-court offense UNCW could do nothing to stop them. UNCWs defense allowed W&M to score 98 on them. Nothing would please me more than the D at State becoming a major part of our game instead of an after thought. Perhaps Keatts can do that. We bet the farm on it didn’t we.
Red BaronParticipantWhat the UVA game proved was that defense is not his forte. We hired Gott-Two. UVA was able to go to the basket at will for uncontested layups. There was no help defense. Even the ESPN talking heads mentioned it.
Red BaronParticipantJust to set history straight, Sloan was not an unknown “up and comer” when hired at State. He was a very successful head coach at the University of Florida, a power 5 school(? – there was no such thing as power 5 back then). He turned their program around. He most likely took the State position cause it was his alma mater. We thanked him for that and the NC by trying to lowball his compensation. Hiring Sloan would have been more akin to us hiring Billy Donovon (sp?) several years back had tha wish come true, or had we hired Crean from IU.
Red BaronParticipantIf Gott is guilty then every major college coach in the country is guilty also. Naw, this isn’t the old ” everyone does it” defense that *nc uses, but it is the “everyone does it” defense so to speak. Ever seen media coverage of basketball games with coaches there watching players? I have. By definition in rule 13.02.4 that is considered a contact event whether a coach speaks to a player or not. Well every coach who has shown up at one of these events being filmed by someone other than the institution or organization responsible for the event and/or the school the coach represents is in violation of the rule 13.10.1 that is being cited by the accuser. Even ole Roy has done this a time or two. Perhaps those in (and around) glass houses should be careful tossing stones around. I keep forgetting the rules don’t apply to them and their “Crapolina Way.”

Red BaronParticipantVaWolf82 are you thinking about the 12-10 NC State victory over Duke in the 1968 ACC Tournament semifinals?
Red BaronParticipantAlso made FoxSports Live Top Five as #2.
Red BaronParticipantCowdog, Troll, ya’ll are speaking blasphemy. My wife pointed out to me in the “Queen Deb” version of the Old Testament, Genesis 2 verse 2 that says “And on the seventh day God created AC then ended his work which he had made; and he cooled it on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.” Must be true its in the Bible.
Red BaronParticipantMy favorite duo was Dizzy Dean and Peewee Reese. Loved watching ball games on Saturday listening to Diz as a kid.
Red BaronParticipantI had calculus and econ classes in Harrelson in the mid 60s. My day was always made when I had an 8 o’clock class there. There was a professor who’ d come in about 8 in a suit and tie, tie very loose, collar unbuttoned, and shoes untied. He’d be reading a book. He’d come through the entry, proceed to the inner wall on the ramp and place his shoulder on the wall. He’d then begin his walk up the ramp reading. That inner wall had ashtrays mounted about every 50 ft or so. When he’d hit an ashtray he’d just sort of pirouette around it, put his shoulder back on the wall and keep walking. He never looked up. He never stopped reading. When someone mentions Harrelson that’s the vision that pops immediately to mind. Asthetically I never cared for the building, but no one ever solicited my opinion.
