Gowolves, I agree that Mav has more size and versatility than Woo, but if he’s going to stand around on the offensive end, he’s not going to help give some space for Dorn and DSJ to drive. I would love to see him develop more of a mid-range game, and he’s going to get that opportunity, but he needs to cash-in on it. Abu has a strong 16-foot jump shot to help give him some space on the block, and Mav should use some similar spot to help himself (and the team) on the offensive end. But if he stands still for several possessions, he’s not going to become what we are expecting.

Dayes with another touchdown. I just have to ask the older guys. Was Ted Brown anything like Dayes? I know TA was our version of Bo Jackson, but Dayes has been so good. I can’t remember us having this type of runner. I remember Stephens, Robinson, Hall, Baker, Andre Brown, but Dayes seems like a one-of-a-kind.

Ryan Finley with a Brett-Favre-style run behind the line of scrimmage. Nice pratfall.

‘Cuse has kicked to Hines every time in the corner, and our special teams hasn’t blocked it well once. Not that it’s needed, but can we (dis)credit the coaches for that one?

Just returned from a short errand (and NO, that was NOT a euphemism), just in time to see the punt blocked. Great defense again to keep the points allowed to 3.

Big defensive series there. Great penetration, if I could use that phrase, BOtB!

I wonder if Zach Mahoney is related to Steve Guttenberg’s character from “Police Academy”?

My version of the GBU (Good, Bad, Ugly) from the game last night:

Good: Effort, Bench–Torin Dorn is a grinder, and that wasn’t there last year at all (outside of Barber). Bench,

Bad: Shooting, rebounding, individual defense/defensive awareness, Isolation offense–Abu and Rowan are defensive liabilities at this point. Abu is in his 3rd year and any forward with the ability to dribble gives him problems. He allowed their one decent forward to dribble from the corner to the basket and score on two straight possessions, which warranted a quick timeout. Shooting was abyssmal, especially from the arc. Rowan and Henderson missed badly, and missed on wide-open looks in the 2nd half. Those shots have to fall, to negate really bad defense. Rebounding, Dorn and Abu were decent on the boards, but no block outs on so many occasions in both halves is distressing and Rowan still thinks the game is volleyball and we almost lost two defensive rebounds because of this. Defense, Abu still wants to block jump shots CJL-style and this sets him up for losing rebounding position. The coaches need him to correct this if this team wants to really make noise.

Ugly: Rowan, Anya–BJ Anya should not see the floor again this year. He cannot move and/or he refuses to move on both offense and defense. He was also the one who yelled at Rowan during a defensive series into a timeout, and I still can’t figure out why. Rowan has concrete feet. In the first half, he was the recipient of two baskets by moving without the ball, but he refused to do anything but stand and run for a screen and a three in the second half. The more athletic players are going to get those minutes if all he’s going to do is be Woo part 2.

Troll, I can’t imagine there is enough polish left for this titanic turd. I wasn’t on the fence about Doeren; I fully expected that he would coach out his contract and then hit the road. You can’t lose a game like this one and keep your job. In the seven wins Doeren has earned in four years (excluding the 35-7 pummeling of the Asterisk in Kenan), he’s needed the other team to make significant mistakes in order for his teams to win. He needed a late turnover from WFU and a hurricane against ND to earn his only decent home wins in his four-year stint. A poster on TOS mentioned Tom Reed, whom I barely remember as Sheridan is the first coach who my memory can recall, and Doeren might be every bit as bad as Reed. His record is very damn close.

I’m hoping Doeren resigns at the end of the season because I don’t think DY will fire him. The man is not a ACC-caliber football coach. I hope he finds somewhere else to coach, but I’m not watching another game with him at the helm.

They had a good defense last year? In total defense they were 13th last season, 14th in rushing defense (247 yds/gm on the ground). Will they be better? Yes. But it’s hard to be as terrible as they were for three seasons in a row. And Troll, other than games like The Citadel, UN* isn’t winning any games this year on defense alone.

I have a feeling that we win one game and lose one game and boycott the rest, so we end up 1-1 for the year. Dave Doeren gets “NC State Football Head Coach of the Year” Award.

And by the way, has Bobby Petrino won anything? According to Wiki, he’s won two conference titles 2004 and 2006 with Louisville in two different conferences. Winning 11 games in the SEC means you’re the third best coach in the ACC?

Read it from a thread on TOS. Fuentes is a good coach, but him at #6 right now is laughable. Put Fuentes at Ga Tech and see how much he wins. Paul Johnson has won the ACC Title and been to the title game three times, and he’s 8th? Steve Lassan isn’t a credible judge of coaching ability.

I love the advertisement at the end. I should hack the webpage and fix it Wikipedia style to read “The university was placed on probation by its accreditation agency for lack of educational oversight over a period of 20 years. The university has admitted to this egregious negligence with not only reluctance but with indignation. Over 100% of all alums believe themselves to be superior in most endeavors, including, but not limited to, urination and face-painting. Several famous alums have degrees based entirely on freshman and sophomore level classes, but provide good faces for television commercials and Internet memes.”

The NCAA has two pending lawsuits (one of which had a motion to dismiss that was set aside just this past Friday), one of which the Asterisk and the NCAA are co-defendants. As I read the digital tea leaves, the NCAA is extremely unhappy at being named a co-defendant in that lawsuit, and their willingness to provide sound, proper punishment following established protocol will keep the Asterisk’s retained counsel from being able to countersue. The NCAA, as flawed as a Goodwill suit, will protect itself over the interests of UN*. Lastly, for those who think UN* is ‘too-big-to-fail’ because they move the needle in terms of TV ratings … take a read of this link, and tell me if the NCAA will survive if the Blues play in the postseason or not.
