MSU is a perfect match for us, and there is (somewhat) recent history (Peach Bowl in the ’90s?). Also, MSU hasn’t exactly lit the SEC world on fire with Mullen as coach. If the buy-out occurs, fine. I’m going to take a positive view of this as a way to get an improved OOC schedule in the future. We should be able to get a rotation with one SEC/Big11/Big12(8) team every year for FB. I’m not expecting ‘Bama to return our calls, but one Big-Five OOC team is manageable. Too much sunshine?

The UNC Scandal is now entering chapter LXXVIII of Officer Barbrady’s chant. Link. Wainstein began investigating in ‘February’ and expects to be done with the investigation by the fall. Anyone want to find out how much Wainstein is making on this ‘investigation’?

The hilarity continues. The full text is here. I decided to point out my favorite portion below:

“I thought that meant that a class was on paper but it didn’t really exist, and then come to find out people are using that terminology ‘paper classes’ to signify independent study courses that you do papers,” Williams said. “… I’ve been told by people that some of those are really, really good.

I took a ‘paper course’ that was really good. It gave me my Ph.D. from the University of Phoenix in Hypoallergenics. Roy (pronounced ‘Wah’ in French) is a comic genius.

That last quote, JG78, is just mind-boggling. So logically, the university can negate any investigation of compliance by refusing to regard it as an academic violation? We allow no-show classes to our students in order to maintain eligibility which we do not consider a case of academic fraud; therefore, the governing body is not allowed to investigate us.

This should allow for an increase in the number of possessions in each game. It may bother the HSSSers who are still attached to the weave-and-heave, but I like the rule change, and would love it more if a 25-second clock were installed. As long as we don’t go to the graduated lane, this game will still be good.

On today’s episode of “As The Blue World Turns” … Willingham’s testimony was ‘cancelled’ by the Senate. Link. Although this may be legitimate, it certainly looks bad.

“They asked me to do it, told me what they wanted from me and then called me back” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Willingham said, to let her know that Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, decides who would be on the panel and that she had not been included.

Speaking of classes never worth remembering my Econ Lab was in Harrelson freshman year (was an ECE my first year and that worked out really well since I now teach high school English), and that lab was awful.

Triadwolf, Mulholland was awesome for so many reasons, but the best had to be the best looking pregnant belly of any bald man I’ve ever seen. The paunch was so far-reaching that chalk dust would be on his tummy after a lengthy note session on the board.

For many of you who were there around my time (95-98), late night foreign language courses were in Harrelson, and there was a cool little Unix lab tucked into the ground floor but I never could find a way to sneak in just to mess around.

Last note, from the upper floors of DH Hill, you could clearly see that the skylight was modeled after the ‘pop-o-matic bubble’ from the board game ‘Trouble.’ No lie!

My favorite class from the ‘old days’ (mid 90s) was HI 341, History of Technology with Mulholland. He appreciate my zeal for that class because I smoked Camels then. He assumed that my smoking was an homage to the Egyptian pyramids. My final paper was on nuclear energy.

Just an interesting note, old man Mulholland told me that the reason each interior door (rooms on the inner circle) had a vent because those rooms weren’t properly ventilated and kids were falling out in the middle of class. I wonder if anyone considered a lab in oxygen deprivation.

I listened to Douche Glenn’s interview with this guy, and the quote that stood out to me was Golenbock saying that several players agreed to do interviews but refused to PUT THEIR NAME to the quotes in the book. So, consistently Golenbock admitted that he used the phrase ‘an unnamed source’ multiple times to cover the identities of the so-called supporting witnesses of the incidents that took place. Second major point of contention was that Golenbock referred to the disgruntled trainer as an ‘assistant coach’ which I’ve heard no one else ever claim this guy was. I’ve heard ‘trainer’ used by everyone else to describe this person. I teach HS English and wouldn’t accept that type of garbage from them, but in the ‘sports journalism’ world, I guess ‘unnamed’ source is resource #1!!

Golenbock’s notion of ‘Everyone’s cheating so I don’t bother with it’ garbage was the second thing that Douche Glenn didn’t bother addressing. You wrote a book about college athletic scandal and apparently that book was just the tip of the iceberg and Golenbock felt no further need to address the ocean’s worth of scandal and depravity in the college athletic scene. Ostrich syndrome, anyone?

Notice the crew working the AZ-WIS game? Tony Greene, Brian Dorsey, and Mike Eades. This league’s ‘best’ officiating crew had perhaps its most inconsistent game of the year. And folks wonder why our league is so mediocre. Texpack nailed it on Wilbekin (who we should name Vanilla Ice 2). If I could use my off hand to keep a guy from getting to my shot, I’d be able to do wonders on the basketball court. Block/charge is terrible from one crew to the next. I counted four instances throughout the game where the crew for AZ-WIS missed easy out-of-bounds calls which review showed to be incorrect. In three of those cases, the official was either completely blocked or out of position to make the call. Baffling. I wonder sometimes how any coach in our league ever makes it through a game without getting tossed.

Though the extension was earned, Avent has reached his ceiling several times. He made his Omaha trip, but that was his shining moment. I don’t think we’ll be returning to Omaha this year, nor any other year with Avent at the helm. 18 years has proven enough to me. Maybe his can work a nice retirement package, and we can get someone else in the dugout. It would definitely make me happier.

I think Gott deserves full credit for bringing players with some talent here. I think he also deserves blame/credit for developing those players, and year two with Le Nard/KH/KW/Cat will be crucial in determining whether he can back up recruiting wins with game wins. I don’t personally believe next year’s squad is capable of winning the ACC regular season, but should it be good enough to finish top-4? top-6? Finishing in 7th (tied) this year was a positive indicator but only a frustration when viewed with coulda/shoulda victories lost for a variety of factors. Next year needs to be more than a third consecutive ‘rebuild.’

Checking out StatSheet.com is really eye-opening. Our two guards (Lee and Cat) combined for 123 turnovers for the season (67 in conference play alone)!! TL had just 17 in conference play (38 for the season), including the ACCT. Needing improvement in that area is a huge understatement.

My prediction for 2014-15 is lather, rinse, repeat … 22-11 (or thereabouts), team still struggles to find its offensive and defensive rhythm. A few bad losses coupled with one or two good wins. Round of 32 exit after sneaking into an 11-seed.

And if you’re asking for transfers, Kevin Ware is on the market!! But I won’t hold my breath on that one.

Talk about the media ‘coverage’ from local entities. Check this headline out. And people wonder why folks in this state don’t believe all schools are on the same level in terms of coverage.

Notice the headline with the picture that basically forgives the players from ever having to juggle school + basketball. Then, notice the write-up qualifying the HBO and ESPN pieces as ‘nothing new.’ Maybe if WRAL had done some of its job, it could then mount a lawsuit against those other agencies for plagiarism. Thanks, WRAL. No one noticed your reporting until you reported that it was nothing new!!

Regarding TJ, I think he’s going to be a solid professional player; however, he possess more skills of a hybrid 2/3 in terms of getting to the basket and scoring. He CANNOT shoot from outside of 18 feet to save his life, which I would like to see him work on. I have very little hope though that TJ will choose wisely and get his game better instead of heading out in a market that will be loaded with 4/5 players (Wiggins, Parker, Embid) and PGs (Smart, Paige). Warren will be drafted, but would you rather wait another year for perhaps a true lottery selection, or would you like to go out now and perhaps not be drafted until round 2? I’m also hoping that TJ paid close attention to his three teammates from last year who left a year early but are now playing out of the country or playing in the D-league.

As for Gott, next year should be the telling year. Year 4 will tell us if years 1-3 were the paradigm of 20+ wins but no deep run and no vying for a conference title. Again, Gott can’t use the recruiting card as his trump forever. Sidney had plenty of good recruits, and HWSNBN also brought in some NBA talent. The point is can you build a winning program, and even winning last night doesn’t necessarily support this program as ‘winning.’

Agreed about not putting this one on the coaching staff. We played as stupid as we possibly could to give up such a lead. And the FT shooting wasn’t even the worst of it. Tyler turned the ball over 7 times. Simply put, we were nowhere near strong enough mentally to put this game away. Hopefully this will be a huge building block for next year; right now, it’s enough to make this fat man want to shoot someone.

TJ just got undercut like crazy and there was no call. It’s one thing to have some light whistles, another to get to cheap shot an All-American with no consequences.
