Tonight, the Pack turns the ‘John Paul Jones’ Arena into the “Number One Paul Jones” Arena as we apply the Indian Deathlock on the Virginia Cavaliers. Who’s got the belt, WVWolf?!?!?

Good comeback. Was Gott’s undressing a reflection of the officiating or his team’s play? In the 2nd half he was without coat. By the time the score was 58-52, his tie was gone. I was hoping at least that his pants would stay on for the duration of the game.

Couldn’t have been a worse half for State. Agreed that WVU is beating us again. Gott has already used two timeouts in the first half, and still nothing. Maybe the guys aren’t listening anymore.

Non-State fans have really poo-pooed our schedule because they don’t follow basketball except when their teams play. I think Gott should be given a ton of credit for scheduling ‘easy’ games with teams that are tournament-bound, just like we should expect to be. Tonight is another example of a team that will vie for their own conference championship. By season’s end, we’ll look at the Purdue loss as by far the worst OOC loss.

As much as those State fans are questioning either Hughes’ decision-making skills or UN*’s recruiting statements/conversations, the frustration with some of us State fans (those who keep up with recruiting) is not that Hughes chose the Asterisk, the frustration is coming from updates from coaches like Kitchens and White who were assured of Hughes’ commitment to State LAST SUMMER, and then from the moment of the State foot-insertion in November, Hughes’s ‘commitment’ became unclear. Given that our coaching staff, Coach D included, amounted to about nine months of work on this kid alone. To have a basketball equivalent, this is much like the Amile Jefferson decision, where Coach Moxley had him lock, stock and barrel but Duke comes in the last month or so, and everything changes, and Amile is now the best pick-setter in the ACC.

However, that analogy to Jefferson is only frustrating in the fact that our coaching staff put an inordinate amount of time recruiting Hughes, only to have him switch, and as one PP poster put it “rub our noses in it [his UN* choice]”.
I feel badly that our coaches missed out on a kid they put max effort and time into. I have no doubt that Hughes switched because of playing time; I’m just hoping he becomes a leading tackler for UN* next year because they need one.

I’m not going to bellyache over this loss for too long. Their guys have as much NCAA tournament experience as our guys, so that part is a wash. They have a very experienced set of starters who are very used to each other, and play very well as a unit. They didn’t turn the ball over much, whereas we committed more than enough turnovers to lose (everything from bad passes to walking to ‘moving’ screens [Good eyes, Karl. Good eyes.]). KW had three makeable shots go down and pop out, our free throw shooting was superb. Defensive rebounding was very solid, but limited on offensive rebounding opportunities (the one flurry of four chances in the 2nd half turned out to be huge). Wins versus Tennessee and West Virginia and this loss goes strictly by the wayside. WVU was having difficulty at home with Marshall today. So still the rest of the season to accomplish everything we would hope for.

If anyone deserves blame for tonight, it has to be Le’Nard. 4 turnovers leading to 8 points for Wofford. King Karl and the Hessians be damned.

Another gritty win. The team over the last two years would NOT have responded as well as this one did. Agreed with Beej regarding how much I like this team.

I’m just joining the blog and got to watch about the last minute. Has the officiating been a–hole tight or what?

Solid win. This team has by far the most guts and fight of any State team Gott has had. This was a match-up nightmare for our big guys, and the guards took over and kept us in the game. Barber did a wonderful job getting out of the way when his offense wasn’t there (a mixture of being slightly off on his shot and good defense on him from Richmond). K-Wash was very good. Le’nard solid game. All around good win, and the road to W. Lafayette is now firmly in the winnable column. I was marking that one as a sure loss after USF.

Agreed BJD. Our bigs are terribly vulnerable to bigs that can shoot from the outside. Their bigs have 4 threes in the first half.

Agreed Alpha. It’s a combination of coaches and JB. He’s the worst than Jamie Barnette in terms of holding on to the ball too long.

Yes, Mr. P. It’s been retardedly one-sided in terms of penalties. I was trying to catch the ‘illegal shift’ from the previous set of downs.

I said the same thing to my wife, Rick. And Chandler’s hold didn’t appear as egregious as the ones I’ve seen. But it’s going to get called most times, especially when State does it.
