133 lbs starts it off. Duke’s top dog is Connor Hartmann, ranked #5 at 197 lbs is going to be a very tough assignment for Michael Boykin (ranked #17). Join us as ESPN attempts to ruin yet another one of my loves by televising it with live broadcasters.

‘Painfully loyal’ Daniel_Simpson_Day? I don’t see how she’s been ‘painfully loyal’ to DD. She gave him the extension (which deserved scrutiny both now and at the time), but I think you have a short memory because it was fully clear to everyone that when in Maryland she wanted to get rid of the only ACC coach outside of the Triangle who had won a national championship and get rid of an ACC champion football coach (had her FB coach-in-waiting ready to go who is now coaching pretty well at Penn State). Desperation in an AD is the quality you don’t want, and she doesn’t have it. I’m sure she is keeping feelers out to find perhaps that 3rd name on the list, which if you’re wise, you’ll find the guy who will definitely take the job first. Next, you find the guy who will make a few ripples in the pond, and once he’s on board, then you go for the boat-rocker to see if you can catch him. Bird in the hand, and right now, this canary (although struggling to breath in this coal mine we are currently in) may rise up to the surface in tact. He could die a quick death of toxic fumes also, and in that case, we bail out and dig another hole, but one more season will come and go before we know this for sure.

First, Aeight, do you think that Jaylen Samuels is not an Alabama-type player? Nyhiem Hines? Johnny Fraser? Reggie Gallaspy? David Grinnage? If you spend your time looking at recruiting rankings, don’t. I have already spent too much time talking about how rankings mean absolutely nothing (check The University of Miami’s recruiting rankings under Randy Shannon for a perfect microcosm of my point).

Second, as much as all of us share a disdain for our current football situation, why do you believe that DY is so blind that she is afraid to put any of our coaches on notice for their jobs? She’s given several coaches their walking papers (Lowe, O’Brien, Jordan [wrestling], Stubbs [volleyball], Harper [women’s basketball]) since she’s arrived, so why do you think she would be any different for Doeren? To add to the rhetorical questioning, who are you going to get at this point who is better than you currently have? Fans, myself included, have a misguided notion of the value of their alma mater’s coaching job, and these posts prove that lack of vision. We’re not a top-25 football program although we should be. If we do not get there by next season’s conclusion, I have no doubt that a change will be made. If that change were to be made today, who would be the replacement? Although I love a guy like Danny Rocco, who’s been successful at Liberty and Richmond, do you find a coach with an 80-38 career record in the Big South and the CAA to be an upgrade from your current one? And as for an SEC assistant, which one would say yes to an offer? Smart? Kiffin? Cutcliffe had the opportunity to coach at Tennessee where he had great success as a coordinator and turned them down to stay at Duke. Do you think Tennessee’s fans should have been upset about that? How long do you spend asking coordinators and assistants to come be your coach before you end up like Fowler did after Cal got Memphis to match our offer and then some and Belein had a buyout that Fowler never checked? The answer is you look like an idiot offering a job that no one wants.

The bottom line is that Doeren, for good or for bad, has next year to coach AT LEAST. If you’re mad about being a ‘MAC’ school, then watch MAC football. If you expect this team to vie for an ACC championship next season, you need to stop watching NC State football period. I would like to see how this team develops from this past season into next season. If I don’t believe the progress has been made in terms of player development by that time, I will be glad to prepare effigies and kindling to this fire. Until the end of next season, I’m not going to complain about being a ‘MAC’ school.

Gwiz and Gantt won their respective titles at the Midlands combined with a 3rd-place finish from Kevin Jack at 141 and a 5th place finish from Pete Renda at 184, the Pack finished 4th as a team. Great job, and look forward to conference season. This team is a strong candidate to win the conference dual season and even wrestle in the National Duals in February. Check out the link from GoPack. By the season’s end, the Pack will have nine dual matches against ranked foes. Coach Pop has a top-5 recruiting class coming in next season. PackWrestle is getting stronger.

Sad to see Mav on the bench in the 2nd half but he’s earned the pine.

We’re back to being the 3rd best team in the Southland. 20-18 State at the half. If this were golf in Texas, our team would be putting on a hot-dog show in the second half. Boring-game Sidebar: who told Meryl Streep she could act?

Rick, he still needs to average 100 FTA per game to come close to Hansblo.

I’m glad to see our game plan has been to force the ball inside, and let the big guys score. This will take so much pressure off of Cat to score at will. And Mav needs to warm-up to GFK soon.

Heck of a first half for Cat. The rest of the team is basically worthless, and I hope someone can figure out a way to average 10 points by season’s end. Defense was definitely better; hope the Lutz-ing continues into the 2nd.

Correction on the team score, ODU wrestler punches Pyke which gives the Pack 6 points. 26-15 final.

Pyke controls the ring and earns the victory. Final team score 23-15 Pack! Some final notes, it was tough watching Renda and Jack both lose in OT, but the matches were good and both Pack wrestlers made just the wrong move to lose. That’s collegiate wrestling. Next up on the schedule is the Midlands Championships in Evanston, IL. A tough tournament with lots of BigTen competition. Thanks for the two people (myself included) who joined in on the blog.
