The Final Four is also an interesting philosophical test case. I haven’t looked into the numbers, but my “eye test” says that 3/4 are “elite offense/good enough defense” squadrons (Oklahoma, Nova, U*NC), and only one is “defense first” (Cuse). Of course, the “defense first” unit overcame the longest odds, so that’s quite the notch in their belt.
The defense first teas tend to do real well when they get a great offensive player or two. The offensive first team needs a lot of offensive talent to win.
It is an interesting philosophical discussion. Of course you still have to be ‘good enough’ defensively to get to that level.RickKeymasterGene – I imagine Clemson fans are glad that they stuck with Bowden instead of firing a relatively successful coach and bringing in some no name like Dabo Sweeney. Good thing they know their place or Bowden wouldn’t have led them to the championship game.
What’s the name of that fallacy where people remember the hits but forget the misses?
Is that the same fallacy in which all the players leaving were the problems and all the ones coming in are the solution?
Of course solution equals thirteenth place.
RickKeymasterThe question is, what is our ceiling under Gottfried
I disagree on or for but we definitely see the ceiling. Got doesn’t play defense enough to win a title.
RickKeymasterChop, good point. The entire issue makes for a good debate, but the reality is, he’s not going to be fired this year or next year, most likely. I wouldn’t bet on him quitting either. But IMO, it’s also pretty safe to say that we know what we’ve got.
We are paying him very well. He isn’t going to make this coin anywhere else. No chance he takes another job. He will have to be vetoed or living and screaming.
RickKeymasterIt won’t happen for a myriad of reasons (most related to Yow) but if it was my choice I would go ahead and cut bait. I am sure we will squeak into the tourney again next year. Maybe even repeat the pinnacle of success (sweet 16). But then the bottom for out. We will have four players returning in 2017.
RickKeymasterThe cheaters are getting a cake walk into another ill gotten title. They won’t play anyone lower than a fifth seed.
Two cheaters playing for a berth into the title game. The NCAA is a joke.RickKeymaster“Having to constantly pull a rabbit is not a way to build a top 25 program.”
Firing a coach after 1 bad season is not a way to build a top 25 program.
Her is not going to get fired but he is going to leave a mess for whoever replaces him.
RickKeymasterI have read elsewhere that there is expectation of 1-2 traditional (sit out next year) transfers (1 G, 1 big) plus at least one post-grad transfer big. Plus the possibility of Yurtseven. There is still potential for Gott to pull a rabbit out of his
hatass.Having to constantly pull a rabbit is not a way to build a top 25 program.

Top 25 nationally
Top 5 accRickKeymasterSo Coach K did indeed lie about what he said to Oregon’s Brooks…
Figures.
It’s a really strange thing to lie about.
03/26/2016 at 4:54 PM in reply to: Memphis Reviews Possible Conflict of Interest Between Pastner and AD #101931RickKeymasterWait a second an ad in the head coach are supposed to share the same agent / agency??
I don’t believe this is the case but I don’t doubt for a second the long team relationship between Gott and Yow played into that ill times raise.
RickKeymasterChop,
1. I disagree with the “nosedive” assessment. If that’s indeed your opinion. A few days ago we had a solid roster. We lost 2 players unexpectedly and
those are the breaks.
There are obvious risks in recruiting twins but it’s Gotts job to patch those hole. But it’s been 3 days, you actually have to give him a chance to do his job.
2. This is a fair point. We had a great team with the big 4 and that was a season to forget. If we see that again I agree it would be cause for a move.
Everyone has a family member of friend who always has ‘bag luck’. At some point you realize it’s their decisions not their luck.
RickKeymasterIn fact that whole post was so full of fail I deleted it
RickKeymasterLol
You are right. How could I forget CatRickKeymasterI am not sure I would count on frenchie. Stress fractures have ruined many big men’s career. I hope not as I like the kid
Each early departure has its own story and it may make sense looked individually. But when you have 14 in five years, something else is going on.
RickKeymasterThinkpack,
You make me question the great Gott’s recruiting.RickKeymasterSFN has become not better than other sites : “I deleted your ignorant posts that added nothing to the conversation. Now you can stop whining like a spurned school girl and go back to fellating Gott”
As mod your right ditch posts. The comments are over the top.
I have grown tired of his constant insults and just because I an a mod doesn’t mean I have to take them.
Of another mod thinks I went to far they can delete it
RickKeymasterThanks Va. I had a couple, but they were deleted by a key master with no cojones. (Which eliminates you.)
I deleted your ignorant posts that added nothing to the conversation. Now you can stop whining like a spurned school girl and go back to fellating Gott.
RickKeymasterBill,
That’s a great comparison. I don’t do sales but I am in sourcing. There are few things worse than a lying sales person. I am old enough to pick up on it but it takes these kids about two years to figure it out. I have said all along character matters.BTW there have been rumors about kh for at least a year.
RickKeymasterCJ Leslie wasn’t even drafted. That’s my point. Abu aint gonna sniff the league no matter what he “declares”
And MY point is that is does not matter to Gott coached players on whether they will be drafted or not. They just want to leave.
RickKeymasterAbu ain’t going to no NBA, get real. He is short and has zero shot or handle
CJ Leslie says hey
RickKeymaster“…they felt like they didn’t fit into the offense.”
Maybe if we had actually ran an offense this year, there would have been a system they could fit into. But I didn’t see much of an offense being run this year. A lot of standing around, watching Cat do his thing. And now we start from scratch next year.
They fit into three offense as well as anyone not named Cat. Everyone stupid around and watched him score.
RickKeymasterExpected responses.
The players suck.
Not going to miss them.
Every team deals with this.
It’s not on the coach.RickKeymasterI thought he was only averaging 2 1/2 players a year. I was wrong it’s three a year.
The only question now is when and do we screw up getting Archie.
RickKeymaster(and the passive-aggressive nature of the post didn’t help).
Now you’ve done it. There is a certain decrepit individual who bristles at those words.
