I’ll see your Harold Thompson, and I’ll raise you a Dinky Proctor.
Dinky, the man with the glass knees.
How about a Mike Warren reference?RickKeymasterSo we went from looking like a turd to a pile of gold plated turd? Or did we strike real gold? I’m thinking Pyrite.
There are a number of different ways to answer this question, so let me try this one. Is it possible that your starting point could be off some?
Or it could be the real fear of Lucy pulling the football again.

The constant drum beat that assigns 100% of the blame for transfers out but never credit for transfers in gets really old
I read this on another thread and feel it’s appropriate here.
Tip for the day: When it’s always someone else, then maybe, just maybe, it’s actually you.So the people who are saying that the transfers are all on Gott need to look at the players. Is that what you are saying? If so, I don’t agree. I think that each one of theses situations was unique, with multiple relationships and factors combining to bring about the departure. Sometimes it was players who realized they weren’t in the right place, sometimes it was mismanaged relationships by the coaching staff, sometimes it was other stuff.
I am saying there is one common denominator in all of the early departures.

Frankly we have always had this problem because we don’t keep a full roster. We have been very fortunate to have only one major injury in five years.

You and Gott seem to have a similar philosophy. Hard to build a program that way.

BTW what did he say in that article that was so offensive?
Gott turned around a potential disaster into a surprisingly talented group of kids. Let’s hope our record matches our talent level.
But there are legitimate concerns about the following year. I guess we will get to see what the great scrambler is able to pull out that next year.05/19/2016 at 4:04 PM in reply to: NC State Basketball Scholarship Distribution & Discussion #103627RickKeymasterWhere is my post?
Pravda editors must be at work today.
Not “Pravda” editors. WordPress sticks posts into pending for what appears to be random reasons.
RickKeymasterStarters Dennis Smith, Torin Dorn, Terry Henderson, Malik Abu, and Omer Yurtseven, with Mav, BJ, Darius Hicks, Kirk, and possibly Freeman coming off the bench. Apparently there will be news of another guard in the next week or two as well.
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
I heard Freeman is redshirting which I think is best. We need another guard but we went from do we even have enough players to a nice looking roster. Gott can scramble.
RickKeymasterThis is great news
Jeff Goodman ?@GoodmanESPN 2m2 minutes ago
Good news for NC State fans: Abdul-Malik Abu will announce he is withdrawing from NBA Draft and will return to school, source told ESPN.RickKeymasterGoggins is in a new HBO comedy this summer, with the dude from “Eastbound and Down.”
Any idea what the name is or if it has started? I will look for it on Kodi.
RickKeymasterI forgot about him in SOA. He knows how to steal a show.
RickKeymasterJustified was a great show. It had run its course but if you have not seen it grab Kodi and go to town.
Another show I really enjoyed was the Shield. The character who played Boyd was on the Shield and he was great in that as well. Goggins can really enliven a show.RickKeymasterIt’s about the record (which is good enough today).
I guess it wasn’t about the record this year.
Nonetheless I agree Gott has pulled in some amazing talent. No reason not to make some noise next year.RickKeymasterI think most of us hoped Lowe would do well but were holding our breath. In some ways he “took one for the team” like Les did years ago. In other ways he was totally unprepared. Got has been a better choice than Sid but I still have some reservations. Better is good but is this much better good enough? I think not but I’m not quite ready to go through another coach search.
This is where I am.
RickKeymasterI never said I wanted Lowe around. As others have correctly pointed out, not wanting a coach around does not equate to hoping State loses. Do you really not get that?
It was obvious Lowe was a bad coach and getting rid of him as quickly as possible was the best thing for NCSU, I don’t know how anyone can argue with that point. I wanted to get rid of him and if losing was the way to do it then so be it, it took five years of sucking for us to get rid of him so it took a lot of losing for the powers that be would make a decision. I don’t enjoy losing or want to lose but sometimes there is short term pain for long term gain. I am not sure why that us such a hard concept.
I never said I wanted Lowe around.
Then why are you so mad about a statement made about people who did want to keep Lowe around?
RickKeymasterWell, my last post didn’t show up, but it’s probably just as well. Others have covered it well enough.
It was in pending. As I stated before I have no idea what sends it to pending.
RickKeymasterI am not buying into the conspiracy theories. We do most of the damage to ourselves, we don’t have to worry about others doing it to us.
I also would love to see us poke the NCAA in the eye but yeah, we aren’t going to do anything.
RickKeymaster83: Don’t get me wrong. My opinion of the head man has not changed one bit. I’ve said in other threads that I’ve reached s zen place on what is and will be as long as Yow is here. As long as Arch is at Dayton and not a high major, then what will be will be with is and we will wait this out.
I see a one year window. We’ve effectively pushed all in but we’re holding a pair of Kings (2 potential lottery picks). Get Abu and Anya back and that’s enough talent to go to the Elite 8 in the current state of college basketball. It’s up to the staff to make it happen.
I’m a little worried about the “no defensive coach” comments. Heath came with a rep for defense and his teams at UT Martin seemed to win with defense.
I have a very similar mind set with a little less zen. The comments about the coaching staff being in panic mode are concerning. If there was tension and bickering, that could explain the mass exodus of players.
RickKeymasterThis is really kind of bad news is it not. What if the Pack is good next year? That might mean Gott will have more breathing room and not be as easy to gott rid of.
This is the problem with some “fans.” Some would rather see State lose to fit their agenda than see them succeed and miss their agenda.
So this is the part when we measure someone’s “fanhood” by how much they agree with your opinion…
I guess you never hoped we would lose out with Lowe so we could get rid of that weight around our neck. If not I guarantee you are in the minority as anyone with a brain knew he was never going to win anything.
Correct. I have never hoped for State to lose any game. If you have, you aren’t much of a fan. Sorry if the truth hurts.
Whatever, only a fool wanted Lowe around.

RickKeymasterNah, I’m with you. This time we have two, in theory, and better coaching.
I was more marveling at how little difference a 1aD can make in the wrong hands.
Isn’t that the truth. Lowe could have screwed up a two car parade.
RickKeymasterRemember when we had such a great year when JJ Hickson was a one and done…
I did say “hope” because you are right it is not a guarantee.
RickKeymasterYurt and Smith are considered one and done players so yeah they will be gone next year. I HOPE that means we had a great year.
RickKeymasterFantastic news! Two projected lottery picks. When we lost Bam, I thought there would be no way to overcome that. Keeping my fingers crossed on his eligibility.
This also tells me that Abu is probably gone.
I cannot imagine they will not give him eligibility. And yeah I imagine immediate playing time was a good selling point to the 7.
