RickKeymaster
Rick, I’m a senior systems engineer at a company that does recruiting that tends to be all over the place from Hickory Farms to RTI
I used to work at RTI. Funny thing, before I worked at RTI I was at IBM (across the street) and did not even know RTI existed until a friend of mine helped me get a job there. They have a big, nice campus but I grew real concerned about the leadership. The CEO, CIO, Controller, CFO and heads of two divisions all left within a 12 month period. I thought it was a good time to get out.
RickKeymasterYogi and Rick, are y’all industrial engineers? I’ve got a lean Six Sigma Green Belt too, and many people in that continuous process improvement field are IEs.
I am in sourcing. My company got on a green belt kick and it was free training so I took it. It is not very applicable to what I do.
RickKeymasterHave some fun with this Rick. Over the season see if you can identify what might be called cultural in Doeren’s program.
Will do
Thanks for the insight.RickKeymasterThanks Yogi.
RickKeymasterSome of the things I’ve heard him say leads me to believe he is following this philosophy, or one close to it.
Now that is a very interesting point. What has he said that lead you to believe that?
I have a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, while the value of this is questionable it does lead to a mindset of continuous improvement and efficiency. If that is his philosophy that could lead to a better team in the long term.RickKeymasterI made a comment (taken poorly) that I felt the “culture change” was smoke and mirrors but you seems to really feel he has changed it. What were the cultural problems when he came in? What has he done to fix them and where does he need to take the culture, in your opinion?
IMO Doeren is building on the foundation that TOB built. I don’t want to say anything about Chuck and the culture (or lack of culture) under him. Let’s just say I would want my son playing for either TOB (as a man) or DD as a man, developer of men and football coach.
I am not trying to be difficult but am just trying to learn more about your opinion. What about the culture is he building on and (hopefully) improving and does that help us win in the future?
RickKeymasterWithout altering our culture to be something truly unique we have nothing to sell except being able to start as a freshman and we all know what that means.

NONE of you have an answer except to say DD needs to come up with the answer.
It seems there is a “can’t fix recruiting” vibe to many of these posts. Is that how people feel? Are we facing a glass ceiling?
It’s also part of what I mean when I question whether NC State is committed to winning at a high level, or even should be committed to doing what it takes to win.
IMO we are not committed to it. Because of the seat licenses and loyalty of the fans there is not a lot of incentive to improve. Typically something substantial needs to happen to drive true change.
RickKeymasterI wouldn’t insult a Hole Troll by saying you were one.
I seem to recall you criticizing me for name calling. Just because his opinion is different does not mean he is a hole troll.
RickKeymasterThe changing culture line just seems like a buzz word to state some progress is being made. I really don’t take much from it.
RickKeymasterIf they turnout I’ll gladly and without regret admit that I was wrong.
I’ve been looking and I don’t see anywhere you’ve admitted you were wrong. Dang. You must be right all the time.
I’ll freely admit I was wrong once… and that was when I thought I was wrong and wasn’t.
How were you on your prediction last season? 😉
This has been a very interesting discussion since from page three on. Thanks for the insights from both “sides”.
RickKeymasterFor all who are ready to string DD up and cut him lose tell me one thing, WHO are you gonna get to replace him?
I have no opinion on DD but this is an extremely weak argument. I have always hated it.
RickKeymasterIt’s always funny to see the reaction when someone disagrees with the company line around here.
RickKeymasterI did not realize we are predicting what would happen if every school but ours has injuries. My bad.
RickKeymasterIt’s safe to say Doeren (and by extension DY) has sufficiently lowered my expectations and I’ll be “happy” with 6 wins,
That seems to be what the athletic department wants. Go to a bowl, make the tournament and celebrate. Everyone gets a trophy.
RickKeymasterI remember some of the over optimistic predictions from the “experts” last year. I will wait and see what happens.
Hopefully one of the QBs combined with the new OC will blossom.RickKeymasterGlad you’re having a good experience with it, I know several parents who would agree.
Kind of funny story about that. My base school at the time was one of the worst schools in Raleigh if not NC. I was very stressed about getting my son into a good school. I built a spreadsheet for all of the charter and magnet schools factoring in location, number of free lunches, EOG testing, etc. I then applied to the ones I wanted to get into. The one I ended up getting my son into was the one I thought we had no chance of getting into (200 people apply for 100 spots). Its a great school so thanks.
RickKeymasterLOL, don’t agree often with you, but right there with you on this…
Like crack, once you start its hard to stop. 😉
I think its hard to argue against the fact that parents are an integral part of their child’s education. Unfortunately I think many parents believe its the schools job to make sure their child gets an education.
My children attend a charter school in which parents have to apply and drive the children to school. It is a great school not just because of the way the school is run but also because parents want their kids to be there and thus play a much more active role in their schooling.RickKeymasterI never believed UNC would be punished. The NCAA is a fraud. My desire to care about college sports is at an all time low. If there is not an even playing field why bother?
RickKeymasterWe could solve most of the problems in this country if we put as much into every pupil’s education school as my nephews get in Arlington, VA. I’m jealous of them… still.
We spend a lot of money on education. A lot. The problem is parents have to be very active in their child’s education. Working with them on their homework. Encouraging them to do their best. Supporting the teachers instead of attacking them. It is very hard for a single parent to do this.
RickKeymasterFrankly, that shocks me beyond belief and explains how the stealing and corruption those programs are rife with.
You have any statistics for that with a source?
https://www.dol.gov/general/maps
HMM I am not sure link will work but it is a map of unemployment fraud by state. They admit there is fraud and IMO it is being under-reported. Common sense says if you can get money without a picture ID then people are going to abuse it.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/28/fraudulent-unemployment-benefits_n_3175092.html
Says we paid $3.3B in fraudulent unemployment benefits.http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2013/05/01/cnbc-unemployment-fraud/2127897/
USA today says the sameRickKeymasterWhoever authored the NC bill deserves a swift kick in the nuts.
Agreed. Unfortunately the NCGA has taken its majority and used it in really crappy ways. Its why I hate politics and politicians. Both sides suck and do crappy things when they have the power. Grid lock is about the best we can hope for at this point.
RickKeymasterPoverty? Lol
How do they get social security, unemployment, disability, good stamps etc?Hint: it involves a plastic card with a picture on it.
I figure that’s close enough to my end of the bar.
Did you not understand the photo ID portion? I expect not
But, why in God’s name, would one follow the word “Poverty,” with an LOL?
You responded to my question. If you don’t want a response then don’t illicit one.
Did you not understand me LOL was obviously ridiculing the poor and not in response to your dismissal LOL. I expect not.

ORLY?
I deleted the pictures for size reasons.
Outside of a birth certificate, everything else on that list requires an ID to get. However, I am wrong in that you don’t need an ID to get government benefits. Frankly, that shocks me beyond belief and explains how the stealing and corruption those programs are rife with. I still don’t understand how anyone can function in today’s world without an ID. Outside of a prepper who is hiding in the woods, that is.For the record, I agree that the bill was written with bad intentions. I am not arguing that. I am arguing there is no reason not to require a $13 ID in order to vote.

RickKeymasterfwiw… not that anybody cares…. in 1993, your’s truly… old BOTB was elected to public office in North Carolina… the first time.
I ran for the City Limits one time. I’d have made it if I’d been unopposed.
How can anyone lack an ID?
You need one to drive, to buy alcohol, to write a check, to cash a check, to get medical services, to open a bank account. Pretty much anything you do requires an ID. I don’t get it, can someone explain this phenomenon? -
