There is something to be said for players constantly leaving. They do seem to get worse defensively they longer they are under Gott.
Happy Coach G’s health and personal life are on the mend. But what caught my eye in this article was his reasoning behind the parting of ways with Lutz. Now I was never thought of Lutz as a defensive savior. His teams at UNC-Charlotte weren’t known for their defense. But to paraphrase, Gottfried says Lutz’s strengths were X’s and O’s, not recruiting. So he replaced with Lutz with recruiters. The bottom line is, and he’s said this before, the teams with the most talent win, and he thinks he just trot out a bunch of horses and win big in today’s game.
That ain’t the way it goes coach. The teams that win big have the horses AND THEY BUST THEIR TAILS and are fundamentally sound. Watch an Izzo or Calipari, Pitino, Coach K, Greg Marshall, or even ole Roy’s bunch. You gotta have both.
Interesting point. This team looks even more lost on defense than previous teams. Can that be attributed to the loss of Lutz?
I guess Henderson wasn’t the difference between making the tournament or not last year. He is RTO2.0.
One other thing to keep in mind is experience. We have 1 player from last year’s team who plays (abu). That’s it until maverick is back. It takes time for 6 new guys to gel. Talent is there
If a coach can’t keep his players he better be good at integrating new players.

Part of the allure to the basketball season is to watch a team develop. I see some really talented parts but not yet a team. Maybe by conference season things will be more team like.
I agree it is fun to watch a team develop but the problem is we seem to start from scratch every year so it is a long row to hoe. We should not be this bad at the start of every season.

Everyone knows I am not the biggest Gott fan but the man does have his positives and selling our brand while being upbeat and good to the fans is one of his better ones.Gott has been through some tough times, some of it was his own making. Hopefully it will focus him on the task at hand.
I ask in all seriousness if we replaced the football coach who is better than we could reasonably hire?
THIS! Thanks tractor. And pay the costs of breaking our contract. This is the crux of what I said about data on replacements for football coaches. Rarely is the replacement any better than who was there before. I used a measurement span of just the last 10 years to make it easy to grab the data but it’s been that way as long as I can remember and I ain’t a young pup. The landscape is littered with “I hope this one is better than the last one”.
If DD is the best we can do then why bother? Actually, I guess I haven’t bothered. I haven’t watched more than a few quarters anyway. Frees up even more of my time.
I never once thought Doeren was being fired this year so I am not sure why he would have thought so. Yow wants to cruise to retirement and hiring a new coach is not cruising.

While I completely agree, I think it is unrealistic to expect that from a coach whose motto is ‘ they giotta us too’
