RedReidParticipant
I was looking at Joe Lunardi’s prediction on ESPN. I’m kind of scratching my head at his prediction that the PAC 12 will get 7 teams. I understand Arizona is undefeated. No other ranked teams in that league. Yet they are holding down a majority of the bubble spots. I’m not going to waste my time researching the PAC 12 at this point. Can anybody shed any light here?
RedReidParticipantI completely agree that regardless of whatever circumstance is available to all programs that there is integrity and that Carolina has proven that they have none. Regardless of how long kids stay in school if the Universities want to tamper with grades to keep them eligible for play, it can be done. Carolina has been doing it for years obviously.
I know that “one and done” is not enforced by the NCAA and technically kids can go to Europe for a year if they would like vs going to college for a year. I just have a problem with bringing kids to college that have no intentions of graduating, nor does the University have belief that they will.
I’m pretty sure at this point the NCAA has all they need to put serious punishment on Carolina. But they haven’t. The NCAA knows Carolina is a “cash cow” and so does the ACC. Swofford is dodging the Hell out of this. When will big programs have to pay the price for these things? They just seem to come back stronger. Carolina still has 3 of the top 25 recruits in next year’s class. Why don’t they take away scholarships and make Carolina go through what we did in the early 90’s? I think we all know the an$wer…
RedReidParticipantAlso, it’s amazing how much times have changed. “Pistol Pete” would have come to State back in the 60’s and played for Press. He couldn’t get into State at the time because of academics and his father left for LSU where he could get Pete eligible. As luck would have it “Storman Norman” took over and we recruited Thompson and the rest is history. But do you think anyone would turn down a kid like that this day in age?
RedReidParticipantI don’t think that Carolina’s head should be taken off of the “chopping block” by any means. But I really believe the “one and done” rule has done colleges and college basketball a disservice on many levels. If kids don’t want to go to college then don’t make them. I like baseball’s rule of staying for 3 years. At the end of this year Rodon and Turner will have to weigh finishing there degrees after 3 years vs entering the draft and there is a lot of merit to that. It would also cut out a lot of this crap of keeping kids eligible for a short amount of time and make them get to the point where they would have to pursue a major. There would still be manipulation, no doubt. My next point is that it would add to disparity in college basketball. We live in a world where John Calipari can recruit a new batch of studs for next season because he is losing all his guys this season. If the lower tear teams could go to big recruits and say come to my school and have an immediate impact or go to that high profile school and sit the bench, it would change the scope of recruiting dramatically.
It’s a flawed system, but the NCAA’s propaganda about being there for student athletes is a crock. It’s all about the cash. We should be teaching kids to do what’s right, not teaching them how much they can get away with.
RedReidParticipant20 wins prior to the ACC and a win in the tourney has usually been a good formula. I agree that the loss to NCCU would probably fault that opinion this year. If you want to look at the schedule and find the most likely losses you would probably come up with @ Cuse, Duke, and UNC. That leaves 15 games and I would think we would have to be very, very good at home. 10-8 would give us a chance. 12-6 and we would look good finishing 22-9. Seems like a long shot but I’m going to be a believer for now. If we can get consistent scoring out of 2-3 players other than TJ we could be very good. We have not found that yet. The talent is there but we are going to need some guys to grow up in a hurry. Let’s play them one game at a time and see what happens. Beat Pitt!
RedReidParticipantWow! Not playing the State-Carolina baseball series?? With all the talent these two teams have.. You can’t make this S*** up can you?
RedReidParticipantIt’s hard to believe that it has been ten years. I have probably shelled out thousands watching PACK football including the Atlanta trip for the Tennessee game, that horrible trip to Maryland when we had a chance to lock the Atlantic, along with many a season ticket. The Champs Bowl win vs West Virginia was great, but I agree that I thought the program was turning a big corner on that New Year’s day in 2003. We have not been to a Peach or a Gator Bowl since. Disappointing. I don’t expect to compete on the level that FSU and Clemson do on a yearly basis. But having some solid 9-3, 10-2 finishes is possible and we have not been able to accomplish that.
RedReidParticipant“I put my heart and soul in this game”
I hope all of our players feel this way.
I know must of us who follow this site realize that our team is playing with mostly top 100 recruits and several McDonald’s All-Americans. Most of these kids are planning on playing at the next level. If Tyler feels that way, I hope he understands all of the other players on the team feel the same way. If he wants more PT, he needs to fight. That’s just tough love. It’s true for everybody in everyday life.
As far as Gott is concerned, he makes over a million dollars a year. His job is to win if he wants to keep that nice salary. That’s what keeps his boss and us(the fans) happy.
Since we got Vandy back and Cat has emerged as the starter we have gone 6-0 with an eye opening win last night.
The goal is to make the NCAA this year and it’s looking realistic. Keep Winning!!

They keep on flashing the Jimmy V charity logo across the screen in light blue. It’s making me cringe. All these young kids watching that know JACK about history probably think he coached there. Jeez. Thanks ESPN!

Many people like the fact you can park easily at Carter-Finley and have the big tailgate unlike Chapel Hill. When the PNC arena was built and we moved the Basketball team there it increased that aspect of State sports culture. The City of Raleigh and notably the downtown area are expected to continue to grow at a fast rate. I have a gut feeling that at some point in the future the Hurricanes will ask for a downtown arena. If they get it, we will have to make some decisions. I have never liked the fact that on the outside, the PNC arena does not look like it belongs to State or the Canes. Should we take the basketball team back to campus or embrace the fact that we would now own that side of Trinity Rd. How much would it cost to renovate the PNC to give it a State look? Could we put the money into the entire complex(including the Carter-Finley aspect) and make it look more like a part of our Campus. There are many variables and it would be smart to start thinking about them. -
