redisgoodParticipant
Julius is going to Santa Clara to be an assistant for his old coach. While Sendek has his limitations, he does turn out good coaches. Best of luck to Mr. Hodge!
redisgoodParticipantIn a “Way Too Early” look at projected ACC starting lineups, Joe Giglio has us in the bottom 1/3 tier, and finishing 11th in the ACC. If that happens, it won’t be good for anyone.
redisgoodParticipantGott’s new contract calls for an automatic year added each year he makes the NCAA tournament, squeaking in or otherwise. With 68 teams making the tournament, I’m not sure that was the wisest clause to include.
redisgoodParticipantWhile the 2016 roster is looking a little skinny right now, 2017 is even scarier. Henderson, Anya, and Freeman will graduate, while I fully expect Dennis Smith and Abu to enter the draft. That would leave a team consisting of Rowan, Dorn, and Kirk. A lot of recruiting has to happen over the next year or this will go beyond ugly.
redisgoodParticipant-Raymond- Honestly I completely forgot about this kid. Not crap talking him but I don’t have many plugs into Middle Tennessee State. But given the fact that he chose them it seems that he understood and accepted who he was.
Definitely no basketball illusions of grandeur. He’s going to finish up his engineering degree.
redisgoodParticipantThey will transfer to a lesser program where both will get playing time.
I don’t know about that. Apparently Georgetown is a likely landing spot.
redisgoodParticipantThere is no doubt in my mind Abu is a future NBA talent, but to go this year would be crazy. Next year he’s probably a second rounder, and if he stays and develops for two years he could be a first round pick.
The Martin’s have no shot at the NBA. They just don’t have elite level skills. They do a lot of things well, but nothing that would get them to the NBA. The frustrating part is they are excellent role players, and that is something we desperately need. Someone asked Julius Hodge what he thought of their transfer, and he simply said they better get their masters degree.
redisgoodParticipantFifty to sixty players get invited to attend the NBA combine each year, and there’s a good chance Abu won’t even be on the list. Hopefully that will tell him all he needs to know. Unfortunately there are hundreds of low life agents who can convince a naive kid that he has the talent to work himself into the 1st round by draft day.
redisgoodParticipantSounds like one of the twins wanted to transfer, unfortunately they’re a package deal. I think one was in the mix to get a lot more minutes than the other.
These guys are by no means stars, but very good role players which every team needs. Not sure why with this team it’s starters minutes or transfer.
redisgoodParticipantSo right now we have two guards, two wings, three bigs, and a project. Good bye depth is right. One injury away from a repeat of this year.
redisgoodParticipantGott said he had open, honest, and somewhat surprising discussions with the twins. One of Gott’s deficiencies is his failure to communicate and form a bond with his players throughout the season. Too many “surprises” at the end of each year.
Whether it was a playing time issue or not, whaty have these conversations now? Clearly there is a communication gap.
And I am unbelievably pissed right now.
redisgoodParticipantAwesome.
redisgoodParticipantGreat clip. Thanks! Sounds like Jimmy V had a little Joe G in him. Sports needs more guys like that.
redisgoodParticipantPer Geoff Gravely, Barber will not test the draft, but is committed to be in the NBA draft.
Also as per Cat Barber. After consulting with (his) agent Sunny Shah.
redisgoodParticipantSpeaking of coaches’ favorite music, K’s is Beyoncé. Seriously? The man never stops recruiting. If he was coaching the Peoria Kindergarten Rattlers, his favorite musician would be Raffi.
redisgoodParticipantVery happy for JaQawn. The Wolfpack are assured of having 3 guards in the round of 32. Pulling hard for MTSU, not so much for Butler and UConn.
redisgoodParticipantYep, it is too bad. But on the bright side, they are well positioned to have a big year next year. (Wait till next year I know, but they really are going to be very good).
redisgoodParticipantAnd a pitiful group of eight it is.
redisgoodParticipantThe Pack have declined the invite. Probably the best thing as those have said earlier. Cat needs to rest and get healthy for the NBA workouts, and everyone else just needs to get healthy and work on developing their games for next year. Gott and staff need to hit the recruiting trail and find us a couple of bigs as well as locking up some guys for 2017.
redisgoodParticipantIt was interesting to see the SFN twitter poll resulted in 53% in favor of playing. But it might be a moot point anyway. There is a good chance the Vegas 16 may not even get off the ground. Probably for the best.
redisgoodParticipantIn addition to JaQawn Raymond, both Rodney Purvis and Tyler Lewis will be dancing, although Butler is on the bubble. Lewis has been relegated to a 10 to 15 minute a game bench player. Either way, Butler and Uconn are two teams I hope have early exits. Should-have-been former Wolfpacker Gary Clark and Cincinnati will likely get in as well. Two former players who won’t be getting in are Tyler Harris and his dad. They should have picked some place other than Auburn as their 12th and final stop.
redisgoodParticipantMTSU. JaQawn Raymond is a really good kid and I was happy to see him win Conference USA this afternoon.
redisgoodParticipantHaha, I think we have a winner.
redisgoodParticipantI think Abu made a huge leap forward this year. 14 double doubles, and one rebound away from 4 others. His PPG doubled from 6.4 to 12.9, and his rebounds per game increased from 4.8 to 8.8. He was better in every statistical category than Brice Johnson’s sophomore and junior years. He is absolutely trending to become a dominant player in the ACC next year.
I thought he was tremendous this year, and the sky is the limit next year.
redisgoodParticipantConversely, there may have been a few games that we won and could have lost if Henderson was playing. While Rowan contributed greatly to some of our losses, he also hit some clutch shots late in the game in a few of our wins.
