redisgoodParticipant
This is beginning to remind me of the scene in Hoosiers where Coach Dale and his 6 players are standing in front of an angry student body who are chanting “We want Jimmy, we want Jimmy”, and he tells them “This is your team!” This time they are chanting “We want Archie, we want Archie.”
Holy cow, this is incredibly bad
redisgoodParticipantAbu also has a workout next week with the Timberwolves, so he should get some good feedback there as well.
redisgoodParticipantAs expected, Cat received an invitation to the NBA draft combine. Equally expected, Beejay and Abu did not.
redisgoodParticipantCongrats to both.
Yes, the Pats know what they are doing when it comes to evaluating talent.
It is completely wrong to suggest the Panthers don’t know what they are doing as well.
Show me a team that has drafted better than that.
I guess my combining two separate thoughts (sad the Panthers didn’t draft them, and NE is a good judge of talent) was misconstrued that the Panthers aren’t good talent judges. I hadn’t even thought that, but I can see how it was interpreted that way. I fully agree the Panthers have been great in that area, I was just hoping to see Thuney and Brissett more often, since I watch every Panthers game, and maybe a few Pats games each year.
It will be interesting if Brady’s suspension sticks, which it probably will, and something happens to Garoppolo.
redisgoodParticipantI agree, I like the new rule, and no reason not to use it. I’ll be surprised if either Beejay or Abu don’t come back. Hopefully Beejay will realize what he needs to do to make himself draftable.
Grilled chicken breast, brocolli and brown rice + Free throws = first round pick.
And a side order of rebounding.

redisgoodParticipantJust saw this note on ESPN:
<iframe id=”twitter-widget-0″ scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0″ allowtransparency=”true” allowfullscreen=”true” class=”twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered” data-tweet-id=”725115445565476864″ title=”Twitter Tweet” style=”position: static; visibility: visible; display: block; width: 500px; height: 202.765625px; padding: 0px; border: none; max-width: 100%; min-width: 220px; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;”></iframe>
<script async=”” src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″></script>I think 60 get invited to the combine. Sure are going to be a lot of disappointed players out there. Hopefully Beejay and Abu get much needed reality checks and return.
redisgoodParticipantBeejay has declared for the draft. Presumably he hasn’t hired an agent.
redisgoodParticipantThe Martins signed in 2012.
I feel transfers are more of a desperation move when you can’t land recruits the traditional way. This year is a great example. The staff is out there desperately trying to plug a number of holes in the lineup. So my point being, the current recruiting results of our HC are not conducive to any kind of sustained success. Its more of a shotgun approach. It has been a full three years since he has landed sufficient recruits to fill a lineup. One PG this past year, probably one PG this coming year, a shortage of quality big men, and no true centers.
So yes, if you count transfers and projects, he is bringing in bodies.
redisgoodParticipantAs a follow-on to Tau’s post, I went back and looked when the last recruits were signed. If you exclude transfers, Kirk who is a project, and Rowan who was a last minute Hail Mary get, the last legitimate, normal recruit signings were Malik Abu, nearly three years ago, Lennard Freeman, a full three years ago, and DSJ, last year. I know I’m stating the obvious, but recruiting needs to ramp up quickly. The new assistants clearly have their work cut out for them.
redisgoodParticipantBen Carter who is a PF from UNLV is transferring from the program and can play immediately. NC State is one of his scheduled visits. From the little I’ve read about the guy, here is what I found:
– Initially played for Oregon. Was suspended 9 games for selling team gear;
– Transferred from Oregon to UNLV because he wasn’t happy with his minutes and being forced to play the 5 position;
– His father, who was quoted in everything I read, is a prominent AAU coach on the West Coast;
– He tore his ACL at the end of January, and will begin light jogging in MayI know we need big guys, and I know we have lots of scholarships, but this one makes me nervous.
redisgoodParticipantThere are two on that list so far who have upcoming visits. Savon Goodman, the Arizona State forward who lit us up last season and can play immediately is coming at the end of April. And Jimmy Whitt, a freshman point guard from Arkansas who will have to sit out a year is also coming in the next few weeks.
redisgoodParticipantSerious question. Anyone ever grew up with an AD, or close enough to know what a competent AD might look like?
Our previous AD was my neighbor so I know what doesn’t.
redisgoodParticipantThe twitterverse is starting to lean towards Dooley staying put.
redisgoodParticipantSounds like GT didn’t work out so the AD will eat his salary. Still don’t understand what went on.
redisgoodParticipantSpecial Assistant To The Deputy Athletic Director. Wait…what?
Isn’t that Dwight Schrute’s job?
redisgoodParticipantA part of it is money. He’s making about $250K right now and would double that here.
I’m just wondering what the backstory to all this is. Why is Lutz leaving? His own choice? And if so, why go to become an assistant at another ACC school? Something isn’t adding up.
redisgoodParticipantI wouldn’t blame Lutz, and to BJD’s point, maybe Dooley won’t make a big impact defensively. At the end of the day the HC sets the tone, and if he would rather stress offense first, there’s not a lot the assistants can do about it.
redisgoodParticipantI’m hoping it’s Dooley. Early, Pierre, and Dooley would give us three of the top recruiters in the country. Lutz is a great Xs and Os guy, but we need desperately need to upgrade the talent on the floor. He’s also a fanatic about good defense, which we can obviously use.
redisgoodParticipantNo question playing against the 2nd string defense helps, but despite that you can see how fast he is and he’s got great moves. The defense couldn’t have hit him even if they were allowed. They couldn’t catch him. The only issue with Jacoby which he will get better in time is going through his progressions. If his 1st read isn’t there, he’s gone. But man, can he go.
My other takeaway is Johnny Frasier is the real deal. Frasier and Matt Dayes are going to be a dynamite combo.
I also think everyone is going to like the new offense. Even though it was pretty vanilla, it was still fun to watch. It’s strictly no huddle, and is going to be murder on the other teams’ defense.
Other than that, with so many guys not playing today, and the firsts going against the seconds, it was hard to really tell much of anything.
redisgoodParticipantWhat about this scenario, Abu goes pro and Frenchie has to redshirt because of the stress problems. Anya as our only big man.
It wasn’t that long ago I would have said you were crazy for even thinking that. But that’s before we went into last year with only one scholarship point guard, and it looks like we might do that again this year.
redisgoodParticipantNone of this changes the fact that if we can’t start recruiting kids who want to play for us for 4 years, we won’t build anything substantial. Purvis, Washington, Lewis, and now the twins. We can’t help that kids want to leave for money, that’s true everywhere, but we’ve recruited enough talent to compete for championships and it keeps walking out the door. Sad.
Grayson Allen, projected to be a 1st round pick announced he is coming back for his junior year.
redisgoodParticipantIf not Gak, this guy sounds pretty good:
Jeff Goodman
@GoodmanESPN
Grad Transfer Alert: Anthony Livingston, averaged 15.5, 9.4 boards last season, will transfer, source told ESPN. High majors will be on him.
In 2015-16, Livingston averaged 15.5 points, 9.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Tallying 0.8 blocks per game on the defensive end, he averaged 31 minutes per contest as well.
We are on his radar.
redisgoodParticipantThe guy would give us an immediate boost as a rebounder. He’s 6’11’, and is known as a good rebounder. Definitely a nice safety net in case Freeman can’t go. Probably not a lot of offense though. It would allow Abu to play more at the 4 when BJ needs a rest.
redisgoodParticipantSounds like Butch Pierre has joined the staff. According to Jeff Goodman, “top 5 most feared assistant by other guys in the business”
He also helped recruit 3-4 star center Gorjok Gak (any relation to Todd?), to Okla State. Gak has de-committed in the past few days and is re-opening his recruitment.
