redisgoodParticipant
i feel a sharks/jets showdown coming on…factions are breaking out.
More like whales/guppies, or lions/hamsters.
redisgoodParticipantCoach K lost today as well. That’s with 2 lottery picks and a strong supporting cast. He used to be a good coach, but he obviously sucks now. Fire him!! Fire the AD!! Fire the whole damn bunch!!
Oh, and did you see how K just stood there on the sidelines and choked? You could see it in his eyes. He was clearly intimidated and didn’t know what to do.Yep, some real rocket surgeons around here.
redisgoodParticipantNot sure who had the bigger meltdown tonight, the team or some of the posters here. Holy cow. I think the posters win. Fatigue is no match for Jack Daniels.
redisgoodParticipantThis applies tonight:
“When a defining moment comes along, you define the moment… or the moment defines you.” —Roy ‘Tin Cup’ McAvoy
I hope that wasn’t right before he put 10 balls in the water.
redisgoodParticipantI’m thinking Xavier will not be able to contain TJ (big revelation there), and I also think Dez and Cat will be up to the defensive task. Wolfpack by 8.
As an aside, I’m an infrequent poster, but a regular reader. I gotta say, BJD has by far the most credibility when it comes to breaking down a game. His assessments are regularly spot on, and I look forward to reading them.
redisgoodParticipantThis is also why the “his team didn’t make the tourney” criteria Goodman and a few other jackasses were espousing when saying TJ didn’t deserve ACC POY is such utter nonsense.
I still laugh at Goodman’s drooling over Harrison Barnes and proclaiming him National POY before he ever dribbled a ball in a college practice.
redisgoodParticipantLast year’s team had the talent, but no heart or chemistry. This year’s team has plenty of all three to make a run in the tournament, but likely won’t get the chance. That’s what make this year particularly frustrating.
Nonetheless I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen from Cat, Beejay, Kyle, and Nard. While I hate the fact they will play in the NIT, it can only be good from a development perspective. The freshmen have now played into Saturday in the ACCT, they played road games at Pitt, Syracuse, Carolina, and Duke. They will come back next year experienced and confident.
No way TJ returns, and there is no way the addition of Lacey makes up for the loss. However, it will be a balanced team next year from a scoring perspective. All have had their moments this year, and are more than capable of picking up the slack.
Cat is an unbelievable defender, and will only be better next year. I hope Beejay gets in better shape in the offseason. We will need big minutes from him at the 5. I will not be surprised to see Gott add one more big in this year’s recruiting class, either from Europe or Juco. It is my understanding he is actively working on this.
Anyway, however it turns out this afternoon, I have truly enjoyed watching the team play and the young guys develop.
03/14/2014 at 3:56 PM in reply to: #7 NC STATE vs #2 SYRACUSE Preview (ACC Tournament Edition) #46078redisgoodParticipantWhat’s Jerami Grant’s health status?
Grant had 16 points and 8 boards his last game, so his back must be feeling better.
redisgoodParticipantAs everyone know’s, when shooters get hot, they are virtually unstoppable. The good thing about back to back games like this is someone like Ralston will likely stay hot. I was at the game last night, and you could just see his confidence. With TJ doing his thing, the combo of him and Turner I think will be lethal.
redisgoodParticipantAll ASU did was screw us by helping Stanford. ASU is in regardless.
redisgoodParticipantI don’t know what to say – appears to be from the Asheville Citizen Times.
That’s okay. The ACC guys have him playing for Maryland. There are so many players in the league, it really is hard to know who plays where. The guys at the ACC spend so much time ensuring we have the highest quality referees and spinning the plethora of Carolina scandals, they really don’t have time for much else.
redisgoodParticipantTJ is playing his best basketball of the season. That will continue tonight, and the Pack wins a close game. Our bigs will get in foul trouble no doubt, but one of them will take their turn having a great game. I think it’s Beejay’s turn, or maybe Kyle’s. I can’t remember.
Tyler and Cat have finally learned to coexist, and both have been solid lately. Hopefully we see the good Dez and the good Ralston tonight. That will help a great deal.
redisgoodParticipantWe also lost to NC Central. And to Mizzou and Cincy. To Wake and Miami and Clemson. Some weren’t close. We are a medicore team not even on the Bubble. That is what we are.
Each of the three ACC teams you mention also had victories over Duke and/or Carolina. Losing to a Top 15 Cincy at their place is not a bad loss. Mizzou is a bubble team, and NCCU got us early on while TJ was playing the 4 position, and it was an OT loss to a tournament team at that.
We aren’t on the bubble, no question. And we have a mediocre record. Again no question. But I disagree this is a mediocre team.
redisgoodParticipantA lot of people look at the Wolfpack as a mediocre team. I realize at the end of the day you are only as good as your record, but we are three last second (and highly controversial) plays away from being 12-6 in the ACC, and firmly in the tournament. So this crap about the team’s record is just that – crap.
redisgoodParticipantI don’t think it was a coincidence that TJ’s scoring went to a whole new level when Tyler took over the starting job and saw his minutes increase. TJ did so much of it on his own in terms of steals, offensive put-backs, and driving into the middle of the lane, but Tyler’s ability to control the ball and get it to TJ in the right place at the right time was crucial.
redisgoodParticipantA big win for TJ, and a big win for the coach. Negative recruiters who say a player cannot develop under Gott just lost their credibility.
It was so much fun watching TJ play this year. I could not be happier for him. Well deserved, and I firmly believe he is going to do it at the next level as well.
redisgoodParticipantNever a doubt. I think he’ll sweep.
I agree. I was more worried about the media. The coaches have seen him up close. He’ll win it easy.
redisgoodParticipantHe strikes again:
“Phil Martelli, the St. Joseph’s head coach, was not thrilled with the officiating. He was so upset he even called out one referee by name in the postgame press conference.
“We are the third-fewest fouling team in America and they shot 24 fouls shots in the second half,” Martelli said. “He will want his name in the paper. His name is Jamie Luckie: He was the referee.
“Shame on us, we fouled. We gave up 24 foul shots in the second half and I am not sure why we would change in our 29th game, but we did.”
02/28/2014 at 3:53 PM in reply to: Is TJ Warren the best basketball player we\'ve had since David Thompson? #43257redisgoodParticipantSorry to divert from the topic, but the dynamics next year will be interesting. We will have a couple of guys that will be bombing it from outside, some talented bigs like Washington and Abu who can score inside, and some slashers like the Martins who can do a bit of both. It will take a Tyler Lewis type of player I think to distribute the ball to the right guy at the right time. This year it’s basically get the ball to TJ, or Ralston if Warren isn’t open.
02/28/2014 at 3:46 PM in reply to: Is TJ Warren the best basketball player we\'ve had since David Thompson? #43254redisgoodParticipantRegarding the Lacey vs Turner comparison, the stats from their previous schools are almost identical. Turner was 37% from three, and 37% overall. Lacey was 37% from three and 39% overall. Lacey took 344 shots, and 166 threes, making 62. Turner took 276 shots overall and 137 threes, making 51.
Both guys numbers are pretty respectable, and it will be nice having another outside shooting threat in the lineup.
redisgoodParticipantI’ve always felt, with Rich holding down the middle, Wood keeping guys occupied on the outside and Zo running the point, TJ could have been a dominant force last year, and this team would have had far more success. But of course it’s just an opinion, and we’ll never know.
redisgoodParticipantEven Mike Decourcy said he went back and watched the replay, and agrees the refs blew it on the TJ foul. I guarantee that was hard for him to admit.
redisgoodParticipantWatch a replay and you can clearly see TJ had begun his shooting motion when fouled. Not sure why someone would say the refs got that call right. That was one of the more obvious blunders I’ve seen in a while.
redisgoodParticipantWhy post? For the same reason people discuss coaches on the hot seat, recruiting, RPI, or last night’s game. It is discussion worthy, I think interesting, and this is a discussion forum. Timing? Can you send me the calendar? It sounds like October to March is root root root for the home team, April is transfers and coach firings, May to August off-season conditioning, and September pre-season practice.
If you are concerned this topic will negatively affect the team, I have written assurances from Tyler et al that they will not read this thread as it may offend their sensitivities and weaken team morale. Wilm, I expect your letter of agreement to do the same by end of day.
01/07/2014 at 5:07 PM in reply to: NEW 1/6/14 Business Week: "Why Tar Heel Fraud Might Just Be the Start" #35934redisgoodParticipantFrom the CNN article – of the 183 football and basketball athletes researched who played at UNC between 2004 and 2012, 60% were found to read between the 4th and 8th grade level. 8% to 10% read below a 3rd grade level.
I’m surprised it wasn’t higher.
