redisgoodParticipant
Are you guys not embarrassed that Queens is on the schedule? Why not Hardbargers? Or does that place even exist anymore?
Just go ahead and get out of the ACC and go as low as you can go! Makes me want to “do things in a trash can that I used to do when I was a “young and dumb fresh and soph undergrad”!
I’m not getting your comment. It was a preseason exhibition game, and is something every D1 program does.
redisgoodParticipantI was there. As has been written, a tale of two halves. The freshmen were outstanding and are really going to push for minutes. Abu is going to be a special player. Lacey still trying too hard, but he will settle down. It is really good to have a complementary ball handler and distributor in at the same time as Cat. Beejay was fun to watch as usual. The guy is a human fly swatter. Kyle had a nice all around game. But my main takeaway was the defense in the 2nd half. I cannot wait for the season to start so everyone can see and start believing this is going to be a hell of a defensive team. On the perimeter and in the paint. These guys are relentless, and they all know an equally talented guy is sitting on the bench waiting to take their minutes from them.
redisgoodParticipantI maintain the offense has gone south because our QB has lost confidence in the offensive line, and the offensive line has done everything they can to deserve it.
redisgoodParticipantThey did play Georgia in Charlotte. Sounds like Trevor Lacey was our best player. I think Julius might have been there because he was tweeting things like Kyle needs to hit the boards, and Ralston needs to get to the FT line.
redisgoodParticipantGreat discussion! I do know I cannot wait for the game on Saturday. Only an exhibition, but real basketball finally! For me the only question is, will the the football game be close so I can walk over to the RBC after it’s over, or are we getting blown out so I head back to my car at half time and stagger to the RBC?
redisgoodParticipantI’m certainly not saying because Tyler left the defense is suddenly going to become great. I will say unequivocally Cat is a better defender than Tyler. Jay Bilas called Cat the best on ball defender in the ACC. So sure, giving Tyler’s minutes to Cat will result in better defense.
But I think we will be better because of what I saw from the freshmen last year. All are super aggressive players – there is not a dog in the whole group. Lennard, Cat, Beejay, and Kyle all have a “no prisoners” mentality. Abu is known for his defense. How good these guys will be on defense is still to be determined, but I’m fairly confident we won’t be complaining about terrible defense this year.
redisgoodParticipantBeginning with the Clemson game, our QB has gotten a case of happy feet. If his first read isn’t open immediately, he is staring to panic and run around instead of looking for his second and third reads. Obviously the reason is because the offensive line hasn’t given him the time, and he’s taken a pounding. Now it’s to the point where he assumes he has no time, whether true or not. (Sort of the David Carr syndrome). Hopefully he settles down, goes through his progressions, and hopefully the line gives him time to do that.
A whole lot of hoping there I guess.
redisgoodParticipantThey won and they go to real classes.
Congratulations!
redisgoodParticipantChop, regarding Tyler’s assist to turnover ratio, you are right. Lewis and Barber had the same number of assists, but Cat averaged two TOs per game, while Tyler had one. On the other hand, Cat had 50% more rebounds, twice as many points and three times more steals. He also pushed tempo while Tyler dribbled around the perimeter for 30 seconds. I will gladly sacrifice one turnover a game for better defense, more points, and an uptempo offense.
redisgoodParticipant1st AP poll is out. We got some votes which is nice to see. They have us at 35 overall, 7th in the ACC.
redisgoodParticipantThe defense is going to be much improved this year. Cat, Dez, and Beejay were already good defenders last year. A slimmed down Beejay, a bulked up Washington, and the addition of the Martins and Abu is going to make this a very good defensive team. Losing Tyler Lewis will only help the defense as well.
I’m in the 5-7 camp, but wouldn’t be surprised by a little higher or lower than that.
redisgoodParticipantKevin Ollie is a very smart man. He recognizes his Ferrari is a high maintenance vehicle, so he is doing a little preventative maintenance before the season begins. RP likes his ego stroked, so Ollie figures what the hell, why not if it makes him play better.
redisgoodParticipantESPN Outside The Lines will be examining UNC’s academic fraud. Airs at 5:30 on ESPN2.

redisgoodParticipantI watched “Throwback With The Pack” last Friday. A lot of people seemed to be concerned with the offense in the scrimmage, but it was just a scrimmage. My main takeaway is I have not seen a Wolfpack basketball team play defense like that in a long, long, time. These guys all get after it. Beejay, Dez, the Martins, Abu, Cat. They are all great defenders. Also, Kyle Washington is a star in the making. He showed Friday he can do it all, on both sides of the ball. These guys are all super athletic. I have no concern whatsoever about them scoring points, and their defense is going to be a huge differentiator from previous Gottfried teams.
I saw there is a “secret” scrimmage scheduled against Georgia on Saturday, November 1 in Charlotte. I have no idea why the NCAA keeps up this stupid pretense of secrecy for these scrimmages. I’m sure guys will be secretly tweeting updates throughout.
redisgoodParticipantJulius writes an open letter to Dave Doeren. I’m not sure exactly why I don’t like it, but I don’t. Do not see the purpose other than to call attention to himself.

redisgoodParticipantThis happened last week. The players were not going to get on the field anyway, but our players weren’t beating Louisville either, so same diff.
Didn’t anyone learn anything from Ralphie and his Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle?
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Three East Carolina freshmen football players, linebacker Yiannis Bowden, receiver Curtis Burston and linebacker Markel Winters, have been suspended indefinitely from all team activities effective immediately following a BB gun citation according to an announcement from head coach Ruffin McNeill on Wednesday.
The decision came after McNeill and ECU athletics officials were initially made aware of the charge by the Greenville Police Department on Tuesday afternoon.
“One of the benchmarks of our program is that our players will be held accountable for their actions on and off the field, in the classroom and in the community,” McNeill said. “It is with this commitment in mind that I have suspended these individuals indefinitely for their actions that were irresponsible and dangerous. They have acknowledged their mistake and now part of our job is to help them learn from this situation.”
redisgoodParticipantI heard this morning the university paid $75K of insurance premiums on Gurley’s behalf. $2.5M if an injury caused him to slip in the draft, and $5M if he couldn’t play again. I guess they couldn’t insure against stupid.
redisgoodParticipantIn addition to not wanting to be the team’s primary point guard, Lacey wanted to play in a more up tempo offense. He averaged nearly 12 a game in Alabama’s plodding style of play, so I’m guessing he will get at least that here, but I’m putting him at 15 a game.
redisgoodParticipantBC has a really good defense. This should be a great barometer of where exactly our offense sits relative to “average”.
As an aside, this is a huge weekend for recruits attending, so I hope the crowd shows up in full voice, and our team makes a good showing on the field.
redisgoodParticipantI made a cursory glance at which FBS schools have been shut out so far this season.
Week 1 – Southern Miss, Southern Methodist
Week 2 – Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Michigan
Week 3 – Army, Kent State, Louisiana Monroe
Week 4 – Troy
Week 5 – Southern Methodist, Kansas
Week 6 – NCSUThere are 128 FBS schools so that means there are roughly 60 games each week so roughly 3%-4% of all the games played have resulted in an FBS team being shutout. That’s not good company to be in. I’m not trying to kick dirt on the program, just throwing some numbers out there to show how rare it is for an FBS school to go an entire game without scoring any points.
“An above average offense doesn’t get shut out by a team with two losses.”
It might be worthwhile to see how many teams have put up 41 points on the #1 team in the country. I do know that is hard to do with an “average” offense.
redisgoodParticipantI was born in Canada and grew up there living and breathing hockey, both as a player and a fan. Even I cannot get excited about the product the Hurricanes are offering us.
redisgoodParticipantNo, unfortunately NC State fell victim to poor tackling on FSU’s running back, playing against the best college wide receiver in the country, and a couple of costly turnovers late in the game.
redisgoodParticipantDE Mario Edwards Jr, and DT Niles Lawrence-Stample were both injured in the Clemson game, and are out for our game. Lawrence-Stample’s injury was season ending.
redisgoodParticipantPut a topless woman next to Jameis Winston and you get the same result.
