redisgoodParticipant
Omer had 11 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 18 minutes in yesterday’s U20 Euro championship quarterfinal against Italy. Another thing I like about Omer’s game is his willingness and ability to find the open man when the defense collapses around him. Our wings are going to love that.
Turkey plays Lithuania in the semis this afternoon.
redisgoodParticipantBased on what I saw in the spring, I would like to see Jakobi Meyers. With a questionable offensive line and a weak wide receiver group (which just got weaker today), a QB who can run would be very useful, and man, can Jakobi run. He was also decent in the passing game. I haven’t seen Ryan Finley, but based on his prior experience with Drinkwitz, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start. So having said all that, I’m sure it will be McClendon.
redisgoodParticipantOmer Yurtseven is currently playing in the FIBA U20 championships. Omer is 18 and playing in an older age group. He will also be participating in the U18 championship next month.
The U20 games are streamed live, and I watched his game against Germany Sunday. They had a huge late game comeback and Omer was a key part of it. For the game he had something like 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He hurt his hand early in the 2nd half and was out quite a while getting it taped up. He is quick, great footwork, and soft hands. Also good vision and a very good passer. I can see why there is so much excitement about him coming. Abu and Yurtseven up front is going to be a handful for anyone.
Gottfried was in Finland for Omer’s games. He said he is offering his support, but I suspect he is just making sure there is no last second change of heart. I think Omer will be coming to Raleigh right after the U18.
I also listened to a radio segment that had Will Roach. Will said he recently played some games with Dennis Smith, and Dennis is the best player he’s ever seen come through the Dail center. That includes all the UNC guys and John Wall.
Could be a special year. (or not)
redisgoodParticipantAnd now Ted Kapita. This is unbelievable! I am more than excited for this upcoming season. Talent and depth up and down the lineup. On paper this is the best Wolfpack team in a long, long time.
redisgoodParticipantI hope they will expedite Omer’s case due to the Pack’s Italy trip in August, but I’m not holding my breath. With so many new faces in play for next year it would be nice to have everyone on board and playing.
redisgoodParticipantJust hope our pitching can become more reliable, for any success we may desire in the NCAA tourney field. Go Pack!
If Williamson can go, we’ll be fine. If not, we….may not be fine.
I just read Williamson is scheduled to have Tommy John surgery and is done for the year.
Good luck to him and hopefully the surgery goes well.
redisgoodParticipantI’m sure it’s nothing other than the normal process (or wishful thinking), but Omer Yurtseven has been added to the team roster on gopack.com.
redisgoodParticipantThis would be a very bad loss. 15-19 last year, 2nd best player kicked off the team, another one likely suspended, terrible recruiting class. It will be very early in the season so anything could happen, but losing this game, road game or not would not be good.
redisgoodParticipantAnyone know where Markell would be ranked if he is 2016?
Scout.com has him rated as the #66 prospect overall and the 18th PG in their 2016 rankings. Pretty good for a guy who really is a 2017. A year playing with and learning from Dennis would help him tremendously.
redisgoodParticipantI’m pretty sure that “redisgood” is already referring to 2016-2017 as “this year”, so when he says “next year”, he means 2017-2018. Specifically when referring to M. Johnson being our starting point guard.
Yes, thanks. That’s what I meant. By next year I’m referring to 2017-2018. But, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to see both on the floor at the same time this year.
redisgoodParticipantFantastic write-up. Thanks!
Markell Johnson would be a huge pick-up. He would plug the last remaining hole in the roster, and would likely be our starting point guard next year. He and Dennis seem to have a good relationship, so hopefully he gets the credits he needs to reclassify to 2016 and joins the Pack.
Talent and depth at every position. Who would of thunk it three weeks ago.
redisgoodParticipantStarters Dennis Smith, Torin Dorn, Terry Henderson, Malik Abu, and Omer Yurtseven, with Mav, BJ, Darius Hicks, Kirk, and possibly Freeman coming off the bench. Apparently there will be news of another guard in the next week or two as well.
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
redisgoodParticipantHe is a grad transfer, but is also a redshirt junior. Not only does he have 2 full years of eligibility, but since his freshman year was a medical redshirt, and he missed most of last year with an injury, he most likely will qualify for a 6th year, giving him a full three years with us.
redisgoodParticipantGood verbal! Let’s get him signed and through the Clearing House. We’ll not really know who we have on the roster until the basketballs roll out this fall.
It’s signed and delivered. Clearing House still to go.
redisgoodParticipantThe Pack are also doing a pre-season international trip like when they went to Spain in Warren’s freshman year. This will be a terrific opportunity for all the new pieces to get some work in together.
redisgoodParticipantI cannot imagine they will not give him eligibility. And yeah I imagine immediate playing time was a good selling point to the 7.

I don’t know how much credibility there is to the story, but I read his pro coach was upset about him leaving, and has claimed Omer was getting paid. Another story is the team opened up a bank account for him and put money in it, but Yurtseven never owned it or touched the money.
Whatever has gone on, I will breathe easier when he’s cleared.
redisgoodParticipantFantastic news! Two projected lottery picks. When we lost Bam, I thought there would be no way to overcome that. Keeping my fingers crossed on his eligibility.
This also tells me that Abu is probably gone.
05/15/2016 at 10:59 AM in reply to: Russell Wilson's Commencement Speech AKA Ramblings Of A Lunatic #103384redisgoodParticipantTwo weeks before the season, the coach called Russell in and said he was converting him to safety. Really? Two weeks before the season, there were three healthy QBs, senior Daniel Evans, true freshman Mike Glennon, and redshirt freshman Russell Wilson. The coach in an interview at the time said there were things Russell could bring to the position like his mobility. So it took Wilson going into TOB’s office and telling him he was going to be the starting QB and win multiple superbowls to convince O’Brien to not only not turn one of his three healthy QBs into a safety, but to make him the starting QB instead? I wonder what color the sky is on Russell’s planet.
05/15/2016 at 9:57 AM in reply to: Russell Wilson's Commencement Speech AKA Ramblings Of A Lunatic #103380redisgoodParticipantHe also said he had 450-500 ABs in his freshman and sophomore years and was inexplicably benched in his junior year when he was draft eligible. The only records I can find says he had less than 150 ABs over those first two years. Maybe Wufpacker can confirm either way.
redisgoodParticipantThe Gott comment was sarcasm.
Speaking of Gott, he was with Cat throughout the combine. Good to see that.
redisgoodParticipantI just saw season ticket sales have already gone over 35,000 for only the 3rd time. I guess the improved schedule, esp Notre Dame is helping, and people are still optimistic about the program. The trick will be to have a great season and bring them all back next year. I’m happy about the schedule, and if one of the QBs steps up, our offense could be fun to watch.
redisgoodParticipantThe media is reporting 5 star center Omer Yurtseven began his Raleigh visit yesterday.(I wish we had better weather for it). He was at Syracuse earlier in the week. A cautionary note – Omer’s coach in the Turkish pro league is bitter about him leaving, and is claiming the team has been paying Yurtseven for the past three years, which he denies. Hopefully he chooses to run with the Pack, and hopefully he is cleared by the NCAA. Also, a shooting guard from Canada, Tyrell Gumbs-Frater will be visiting early next week. He will be a freshman this upcoming season. I looked up his stats and saw that he shot 40% from 3 last season. He sounds like he would be a good depth player for next year.
redisgoodParticipantCarlos will be pitching in prime time tonight. 8:00pm on ESPN at home vs the Red Sox.
redisgoodParticipantI don’t think Corch is doubting the veracity of the report, he’s just adding some logic to it. Declaring for the draft makes no sense, and transferring to another school makes no sense. Unfortunately, once you’ve made a statement like Abu’s, it’s hard to take back. He broke a pretty basic rule about keeping things like that in house. I guess he can always fall back on the old “I was misquoted” line.
redisgoodParticipantI mentioned this during the season, but there was one night when Gott was getting a recognition award from DY for his 200th career win or something like that. It was a pre-game ceremony, and I found it noteworthy not a single player looked over to watch, or applaud at the end. They completely ignored the whole event. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that before.
