The Kentucky offer has me a little nervous. Hopefully Gott gets his signature on an LOI quickly.
redisgoodParticipant-
Yes, a big thanks to SFN for the thread “cleansing”.
I don’t think Kirk will make much of a contribution this year, at least not early, but it’s great to add to the depth which was getting a little shaky. He will definitely be a good contributor down the road. If we can get some kind of decent combo guard from somewhere, I’ll feel much better about next year. The 7 footer from Greece is also still a possibility.
redisgoodParticipantI think if you did a bit of homework on the guy you would (or should) feel differently. Excellent athlete, good shooter, and has really come on strong. His 3 star was more a result of him not knowing if he would classify in the 2015 or 2016 class. Many schools have come after him recently.
Great pickup in my opinion.
redisgoodParticipantYou can safely bet the farm, the fam, and your mistress it is Duke.
redisgoodParticipantRick, I agree, that is disappointing. Even if Trevor stayed, there still would be plenty of PT to offer a recruit. Losing Eric Davis to Texas was a crusher.
redisgoodParticipantSo next year are we expected to be a lot worse than our Sweet 16 team this year with a more experienced Cat Barber, Anya, Freeman, and Abu? That’s a pretty solid lineup if you ask me.
Just a few cautionary notes:
– Last year we had three true guards, and all could play the point. This year we have one;
– We would not have made the NCAAT without Lacey;
– Kyle Washington won a couple of games for us, and he is goneI’m sure Gott will fill in a blank or two with a juco or grad transfer, but the pickings are getting pretty slim.
Basically we are one injury from disaster.
redisgoodParticipantGott is on his way to Greece to meet with 7’1″ center Giorgios Papagiannis. Would be a huge pickup (figuratively and literally) if he can land him.
He’s listed as a 5 star by most services, and has been offered by schools such as Maryland, Kansas.
redisgoodParticipantWe were 5-7 in the ACC with Kyle starting and getting starter’s minutes. We were 5-1 the rest of the ACC season with Freeman starting and Kyle playing a lot fewer minutes. We also made the Sweet 16 with that rotation. He did come in and provide a spark in two games we likely would have lost, but that meant it was a rotation that worked. It wasn’t just Lennard’s defense and rebounding, he was able to set screens for Cat and Trevor that Kyle just couldn’t do.
I’m not sure what else Gottfried could have done. If winning is the priority, then he did the right thing. I remember when Roy kept playing Larry Drew and the team wasn’t playing up to expectations. He finally switched to Kendall Marshall and the team took off. Drew did exactly what Kyle is doing now.
I also don’t blame him for Lacey, or not bringing in a recruit. He wants quality players, and unfortunately the guys he went after weren’t willing to spend a season playing behind Cat and Trevor. I’m sure Gottfried was shocked by Lacey’s decision. He knows Lacey won’t get drafted, and was sure another year in the ACC would help at least get him into the draft discussion.
The coach is in a tough spot now. Worst case is go in with the the seven he has, best case is convince Malik Newman to come to State. I doubt that’s happening, so most likely it’s going to be something in the middle like a serviceable juco guard. I guess we’ll find out before too long.
redisgoodParticipantIn the various posts in the past he has cited relatives, friends of friends, sources within the athletic department. This is the first visual evidence. I’m anxiously awaiting video of Gott taking a leak in an airport bathroom, which I’m sure is next.
Coming over here to try and incite Wolfpack fans is a hobby I guess, but kind of weird nonetheless.
redisgoodParticipantThe guy definitely is a Carolina troll. How transparent and silly.
redisgoodParticipantI think if anything, Gott is pissed about the timing. There were a few high quality players transferring and available to play immediately, but wouldn’t come here because they would be competing with Trevor for playing time. If Trevor had decided / announced earlier we could have aggressively gone after them. Not a lot left now. Just speculation on my part tho.
redisgoodParticipantI’m seriously hoping we don’t lose another player. It could happen.
redisgoodParticipantSeven scholarship players at the moment. Three bigs, three wings, and one guard. Not good.
redisgoodParticipantLife off the bubble didn’t last vey long.
redisgoodParticipantIt’s official. Kyle is gone too.
redisgoodParticipantLosing Trevor is going to hurt no doubt, but I will say I went to most of the home games this year, and I thought one of our best games of the year was a game in Reynolds against Charleston Southern. Trevor tweaked his ankle and didn’t play, so Caleb started in his place. It helped that Martin was absolutely on fire, but the important thing is, the team did just fine without him. At least for that one game. Dez played a lot of minutes in that game as well, and that is where losing Lacey is really going to hurt. We basically have no back-up point guard at the moment. However, I’m pretty sure the staff is working on something to help overcome that issue.
redisgoodParticipantWell, it doesn’t sound like someone who is leaving the door open:
“I would like to thank the coaching staff, university and fans for a wonderful experience the last two years at NC State, but I’d like to declare for the NBA Draft,” Lacey said. “I had a great group of teammates the last two years, and they’ll always be like brothers to me. This has been the toughest decision of my life. But I feel like pursuing this new journey in my basketball career is what is best for me.”
redisgoodParticipantI don’t think Trevor gets drafted even next year if he stayed. Tough for us fans, but I can help but think he’s making the right personal decision.
redisgoodParticipantBrace yourself. More bad news is coming. Rumor is Kyle is getting ready to bolt.
I have a feeling the Martins are going to get all the minutes they can handle next year.
redisgoodParticipantI think there was maybe 12,000 or so. hard to say because people were coming in and leaving at different times. If I was counting by UNC standards, we had a little over 50,000.
Tough to take anything from the game. Like I said earlier, a lot of guys were out, and I didn’t even recognize the names of half the guys lining up at WR. A few observations tho:
– Samuels is going to be major impact player. That guy was everywhere;
– Gallaspy is an absolute terror. I have no idea how the other freshmen RBs will do, but he will be hard to keep off the field;
– Street looked bigger and really, really good;
– Roseboro had some nice plays and absolutely blew up a running play 8 yards into the backfield;
– Brissett was very rusty;
– McClendon looks like he could be good. Was a little unsure at times, but he has a big tall frame and a rocket for an arm. Just didn’t have much in the way of receivers to throw to;
– Punting looked fine, kicking tho was a bit of a soft spot;
– the pre-game beer and brats were outstanding.redisgoodParticipantI meant thin for the spring game. Both Alston and Cherry are hurt, and I believe neither will be playing today.
redisgoodParticipantGott had a procedure called electrical cardioversion performed Wednesday. Sounds like it’s to restore a normal heartbeat. Anyway, must have went okay because he’s out on the recruiting trail tonight.
redisgoodParticipantTonight’s events have been cancelled due to weather, but tomorrow should be a beautiful day. Looking forward to some pre-game beer and brats, and hopefully a good crowd for the game. Anxious to see McClendon, Gallaspy, Roseboro etc. get their first taste of action. Especially want to see how McClendon looks out there. We will be pretty short-handed at the WR position, so not expecting a lot from the passing game. Also the kickers get their 1st game action.
Should be an overall fun day.

He just outworks everybody. Whether it’s recruiting, scouting, attention to detail, social responsibility, public relations, or any other aspect of a college coaches job. The guy is relentless.

Lacey will be gone and Cat goes pro. No recruits in sight for next year (except 2 longshot one-and-dones).
Enjoy 2015/16 fellas it should be a good ride but don’t get used to it.
No doubt next year will be pivotal in terms of Gottfried’s career trajectory. He admitted while at Alabama he got lazy with recruiting after Bama had achieved some success. I have no problem with the lack of recruits this year, but there will be some major red flags if that carries into the 2016 class. We are considered a solid leader for Dennis Smith which would be a very good get, but there is a lot of time and a lot of schools will be coming at him hard, so we’ll see.
