    I’m hearing a 2nd failed drug test. Bad intel?

    Never mind. I’ll answer my own question. If it was a 2nd failed drug test, surely he’d be gone.

    And obviously your sources are much more solid.

    UNC self-reports new NCAA violations, delaying response to previous allegations

    “Cunningham said. “I want to assure everyone that Carolina is doing all it can to bring these matters to closure as quickly as possible while also strictly adhering to the NCAA’s infractions process. While we need to address these new developments, we have already completed the majority of the work necessary to respond to the NCAA’s notice. We fully believe that we will be able to bring the investigation to a conclusion in spring 2016, as previously anticipated.”

    Conveniently after basketball season is over.

    Damn! I’m so pumped I want to go over there and start tailgating this afternoon. But I guess that would break the 5 hour policy by about 500 hours.

    Yep, I’m definitely excited about the running backs. Speed guys, power guys, and lots of them. They should be able to both keep defenses guessing and wear them down. Obviously that will help Brissett do his thing. And our tight ends are none too shabby either. If the defense plays reasonably well, this could be a special season.

    All the basketball players including Maverick are returning to campus this weekend, so news should pick up. (I see Rowan has been added to the roster on Gopack.com, so that’s a good thing).

    The fact the guy is an alcoholic, sexist, bullying pervert doesn’t change the fact he is a good, upstanding individual… huh?

    I think the spacing looks pretty good. I suspect both Cat and Abu will go pro after this year. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence those two were chosen to be counselors at the Adidas Global Nations event last week. That event is considered a great opportunity for the counselors to showcase their talent in front of NBA scouts. (I’m guessing they were pretty impressed by Abu’s spectacular dunk)

    So that will leave Beejay, Henderson, and Freeman as seniors, the Martins as juniors, Kirk, Rowan, and Dorn as sophomores, and possibly DSJ, Bam, and one other (hopefully a center) as freshmen. Probably another transfer somewhere in there as well. That would be an awesome team.

    Here is a link to Abu’s dunk if you missed it:

    No, he’s not athletic enough to be one and done. He can shoot lights out, but has lots of other things to work on. I feel he is a 3-4 year player for us.

    Wow! 2015 just got a whole lot better. Gott pulls another rabbit out of his hat. This fixes our depth problem and adds a legit shooter to help spread the floor. Unbelievably good news.

    Add DSJ and Bam to this core group, and 2016 could be very special as well.

    Rick Lewis (Tyler’s dad) said Bam and DSJ are pretty much 100% to State. He has good connections, so while things can change, it sure sounds good. Combine those two guys with Henderson, Dorin, (Rowan hopefully), the Martins, Beejay, Abu (if he doesn’t go pro), and Freeman, and that would be a scary good team!

    While Henderson will help a lot, the guy who will help even more if we can get him is Maverick Rowan. His recruitment sure has been messy, but the more I watch this guy, the more I’m convinced he will be a difference maker. He moved from Pitt to Florida to play against stronger competition, and all he did was get 5A player of the year, average 26+ points and 4 rebounds a game, shoot 60+% from the field and well over 40% from three. He’s a Scott Wood caliber shooter who can also drive the lane and has a great mid-range jumper. 85% FT shooter as well.

    His recruitment has been all over the map, but for some reason we appear to be the leader for him now. That can change 15 times over the next week or so, but he really is a missing piece for us. Cat, Henderson, and Rowan would be a lethal trio.

    This afternoon’s wind will be the great equalizer. I will be interested to see how Dustin’s driver holds up. Spieth will be used to playing in wind, but I don’t think anything like he will see today. Zach Johnson put himself in great position shooting low in the afternoon, but some of that advantage will be lost because of the delayed tee times, meaning he won’t completely avoid the breezes either. Still thinking it will be Jordan on top at the end of Sunday.

    I have a feeling Rowan is going to announce in a few days. Gottfried is there watching him today, but I will be surprised if he ends up here. I sure hope so though. The guy can shoot the three.

    We’re looking good to get Bam Adebayo, but it will still be great to add another big man. Especially since Bam is potentially a one and done player. This guy however could come with a price:

    “A source said Obekpa didn’t want to be part of Chris Mullin’s program, in part because of the different manner in which it is being run, with stricter rules, more discipline and everyone being held accountable. Obekpa nearly transferred last season after receiving his release, but opted to change course and return.”

    “He was suspended two exhibition games his sophomore year for violating university rules, and he was suspended for the NCAA Tournament last season after he tested positive for marijuana use, destroying the Johnnies’ hopes of a March run. He was also ejected from two games last season.”

    He recently visited Minnesota, and Richard Pitino decided he wanted no part of the guy.

    Hopefully Gott treads carefully here,

    If nothing else, I wish Beejay would do it for himself. There was another guy you may remember with a similar story. Robert “Tractor” Traylor battled weight problems throughout his time at Michigan and in the pros. Pretty much the same size as Beejay. He died at 34 of a heart attack. That much weight is an awful strain to put on your heart, especially if you are trying to play a sport like basketball.

    Kind of a strange twist, Rowan just added Louisville and WVU to go along with St. John’s and State. He also dropped Wisconsin, likely due to the Bo Ryan announcement. Something must have changed as he was a lock for St. John’s.

    He will probably declare for the NBA next year, and then shoot up the draft boards like so many Europeans. Scouts seem to like what they don’t see.

    Papa has decided to stay in Greece. Rowan is pretty much a lock for St. John’s, so in the immortal words of Norman Dale “This is your team”.

    And a fine team I think it will be.

    Gott has his summer press conference yesterday.

    – Cody is expected play all over the floor, including some at the point;
    – Freeman had a rod inserted in his right leg from knee cap to ankle. Should be ready late September, early October. Gott likened him to Tristan Thompson;
    – Beejay is still over 300 pounds. Very disappointing. (I really hope Giorgios P comes over to play for us, but I feel it is a very low probability).

    It’s going to be a two part decision. I think we’ll see him decide sometime this week between pro ball in Greece or playing over here. If he decides to go the college route, he will take official visits over the next few weeks. To Oregon and here at a minimum. Probably decide which college end of July, early August.

    The eight we have are pretty damn good. Either or both of the other two would take it to a whole other level. I would love to see us get Rowan. That would help the floor spacing tremendously.

    Rowan seems to be looking for playing time, which would likely make St. John’s the leader. Giorgios could stay in Greece, but his team will probably have to pay him with bitcoins. It would be great to get one of them and fabulous to get both, but I’m not optimistic about either. Nice to be in the running nonetheless.
