Colin Cowherd on “The Herd” this morning. “This went on for 18 years! 18 years of academic fraud!!! If you don’t give the death penalty for that, what do you give it for?”
We know the NCAA is too gutless to do it. They’ve already restored Penn State’s bowl eligibility after the most horrendous scandal in NCAA history. Because of good behavior????
I hate those guys.
PapaJohnParticipantI wish I had the skills to post a snapshot of CNN this morning.
The headline article, “18 years of academic fraud” over a picture of a UNC helmet.
Beautiful.PapaJohnParticipantGowolves – That is the kind money those guys earn.(and deserve) He’ll be wearing that jacket for quite a while.
Heard Lacey was underwhelming in the scrimmage. Not a good sign, he needs to give us double digits every night for us to be good. I know it is early, but worrisome.
PapaJohnParticipantThanks for posting this – I’m really surprised Gott did that. That is great! Feels like he is really becoming part of the family.
Love the legends game, love to see Vinnie come back and challenge the team.
Sounds like it was a great night, sorry I didn’t go.PapaJohnParticipantWow, had forgotten that. NC State football the best in the country at something. What a concept!
“… a defense that included a player that made an NFL roster AT EVERY POSITION”Unbelievable!
We’ve got a loooonnngggg way to go.
PapaJohnParticipantHow long did it take Cutcliffe to get Duke to where they are today? Was it four or five years? And then he won 10 games last year, won the division, and won some Coach of the Year awards.
Remains to be seen if he can sustain it or even repeat it, but if I remember right, they only won 1 game the year before he was hired. He’s proven to be a heck of a coach, hope we are as fortunate. But I think that’s the sort of timeline we are looking at, give or take a year.
PapaJohnParticipantBRAVO!!!!!
1) DD said it on Monday
2) The PP article laid it out very well. We’ve got to be patient. It is rough to watch on Saturdays, but we are trying to build a quality team from nothing. He’s building a program. It’s going to take a few years.
How long does that take? No idea. But you have to figure the first year he was at a disadvantage recruiting because he didn’t know the area and didn’t have the contacts. So his second year would be when we should start to see him making inroads into quality recruiting in the geography. Each following year he should get better.
We got very lucky with Brissett. Without him, we are basically the same team as last year. Some average offensive talent, and very little ACC quality defensive talent. Probably the worst team in the league.
I think it would be one heck of a coaching accomplishment if we made a bowl this year.
PapaJohnParticipantHoly cow! Didn’t think it could get worse after Saturday.
My mistake.PapaJohnParticipantGreat pick up, glad to see some reason for optimism.
Very discouraging performance yesterday.PapaJohnParticipantI think all of our “is we is / is we ain’t” any good analysis has been premature.
The OOC games should have been wins, and they were. We saw the Offence improve over the four games, and we saw the defense we expected. Pretty weak.
FSU & CU are established successful programs with well entrenched coaching/recruiting staffs and years of quality recruiting classes. FSU won it all last year, CU won the Orange Bowl. These are great college teams who can compete with anyone. They are who we aspire to be in a few years.
We knew they were going to beat us, and we expected to be thrashed.HOWEVER, this game is the real ‘state of the program’ game IMO. This is a home game against a beatable team. If we don’t win this, then we know we haven’t progressed as much as we’d hoped and we need to recalibrate expectations.
10/07/2014 at 9:49 AM in reply to: The Wolfpack Is At A Fork In The Road…Which Way Will They Go? #58286PapaJohnParticipantI think Grey’s comment about the Coaching staff managing attitude is spot on. But I think it is an indictment of the Clemson game – Clemson hit us hard from the start and we didn’t respond. FSU out skilled us, but we fought them. I didn’t see enough fight in Death Valley.
But this game is the one I have been looking at since the preseason. This is the one that gauges our improvement. Last year’s team won all of the OOC games and lost the rest. So, despite the obviously improved offense, we haven’t done anything yet.
This one is winnable. We need to empty the offensive playbook, use every defensive scheme we know – leave no stone unturned.
It’s a new season. Put the first half behind us. Let’s go Pack!!
PapaJohnParticipant21-0
Check pleasePapaJohnParticipantNice work.
Unfortunately, no matter how you analyze this one – and you did a great job – there is no other conclusion. One interesting take on the game will be to see how successfully the coaches have gotten the players to put FSU behind them. If they come out flat, that will be the first concern that comes to mind.
10/03/2014 at 11:38 AM in reply to: Where Does NC State Football Go From Here? I’ve Got Some Questions for You #57816PapaJohnParticipantIf I set aside my passion for State and look at last week as a bias free observer, we won the first quarter handily and then they adapted and beat us 49-17 the rest of the way. So we need a fast start with better defense, or a more sustained, four quarter, effort. I think the first is more likely than the second – but both are a stretch for this young team. Clemson is really good and I thought they out played FSU.
I would be happy with 45-35. (or at least as happy as I was last Saturday)
PapaJohnParticipantAnother positive indicator for the program …
PapaJohnParticipantWell said.
Doren has done wonders with this very young group. Didn’t know we were the youngest team in D1.
I think the primary takeaway is, after only 16 games, he got this program to the point that we could throw a scare at one of the best teams in the country. That’s pretty impressive. I look forward to the point at which he’s got a full four years of recruiting under his belt, with his own seniors – we are headed in the right direction. The future looks bright for Pack football.
PapaJohnParticipantWell, the world is catching up with what most of us have figured out. We have a good young coach. This is likely KU testing the waters to see if there are any bites.
09/28/2014 at 11:37 AM in reply to: Let the recruiting gates open – Reggie Gallaspy come on down! #57491PapaJohnParticipantDon’t know what is in the queue, but would love to see some exceptional defensive talent signed at pretty much all positions. (a lot to ask of one recruiting class, I know) But the one thing we can offer the goods ones is plenty of playing time next year on the defensive side of the ball.
“We think this commitment is going to start a wave of commits that we are all going to love with a couple more coming tonight/tomorrow.”
Hope you are right!
PapaJohnParticipantDespite all of the excellent reasons to fear this game, I’m excited.
I can’t delude myself into thinking we can beat these guys, these guys have ruled the recruiting world since Jimbo took over.
But after this game, we’re going to be able to look at the rest of the schedule and have a real idea of what to expect. Right now we really don’t know. And I still think we’ll get a bowl game. We’re great TV!PapaJohnParticipantI like them! Let’s play ball!
PapaJohnParticipantCow – I think that injury was on the other team
And I quote Jig’s Gameday article, “Due to the level of competition of the Pack’s opponent this week there won’t be any in-depth analysis by me. Frankly Presbyterian’s offense is so bad they appear worse than USF did last week.”
And we really struggled to stop them. They didn’t score, but they had to help us with that. They were a run first offense, but hit 60% of their passes.
Folks, we’ve got a really bad defense that FSU is going to roll over. I struggle to imagine our offense being able to overcome that.
PapaJohnParticipantNCSU75
Welcome! I know where you are coming from, and get tired of it myself sometimes. And when I do, I just don’t read the article. But sometimes they just beg for it. LOL
09/17/2014 at 12:03 PM in reply to: NFL Wolfpackers: Philip Rivers’ extra incentive vs Wilson and the Seahawks #56424PapaJohnParticipantWhat a treat to watch Phillip and Russell compete. I am a big fan of both, but was happy to see Phillip win it. he’s working well with the new coaching staff, and still has some good years. I am very happy for a great guy.
On the other hand, Russell has the world by the tail and the future is his. He is the QB for the best team in the league, and has a great coaching staff that knows how to use him. He will have a long, successful career. What a couple of fantastic representatives of our school!
PapaJohnParticipantHilarious! Must be the middle of the week, not enough to talk about.
1) People getting bothered by the fact that the non-players want to look their best for the team photo shoot, and they think that wearing suits is the way to do it. Those team photos will be around forever, I appreciate them wanting to look their best.
2) Others concerned by the number of staff in the picture. I suspect that they’ve always been part of the team (give or take a person or two). And someone thinks that being part of the team photo is an honor, so want to reward all the contributors by being in the photo shoot. I think that is a great idea.PapaJohnParticipantGreat to be talking basketball. Formal practise starts in a month, I believe.
