Shouldn’t all of this global warming stuff be directed towards China and developing nations? May be true, but this freakin’ country can’t fix immigration let alone what happens in China???
Interestingly, as of last year (I think) the US was meeting targets of the Kyoto treaty (that we didn’t sign). I think these were single year targets, not the whole time period target.
Why? A recession and fracking natural gas.
Where are you guys getting the lump charcoal? The stuff I picked up last time is tree branches and tiny bits. Super irritating.
Royal Oak is decent. Better than cowboy brand, IMO. Royal Oak can be found most big box stores and home improvements. Look for the red bag.
I haven’t bought any in a few years though. The ceramic cookers don’t use much and I stocked up last time I bought any.
Aight, bill, now we are getting into details I’m uncertain about. My understanding, may be nonsense, but whatever, is that smoke flavor can accumulate the entire cook. BUT, the nice pink smoke ring penetration stops after a few hours since the proper components for the chemical reaction either denature or run out.
BUt, I’ve never had one that I thought had too much smoke, unless it was just billowing white smoke during the cook. With good, clean translucent smoke, I don’t think you can over smoke.
I’m also not on this new bandwagon that goes super low and super slow. For me, 8-10 hours is more than enough for a boston butt. I haven’t made up my mind on brisket yet, but since it isn’t pork, it isn’t bbq and isn’t germane to the conversation. Still, tasty stuff, and I haven’t fully mastered that one yet.
Some folks go nuts claiming 20 hour boston butt cooks and I think they wasted about 10 hours and need to turn the heat up. Some folks like to wrap in foil and cook to finish, but if I want something steamed, I’ll eat broccoli. But I do all my (pork, even ribs) cooks at 250, and don’t fret over it if it creeps up to 275 every once in a while. As long as it is tender and the skin gets crispy and the fat renders to a nice crisp, I don’t care. I’m all about the outcome. Technique matters, but comes secondary to tender and taste.
BTW, to add to the storm, I’d go to SCNB as soon as parkers! You all need to head out to Grady’s in Sleepy Creek just about dead between wilburs bbq and Mt. Olive. . THAT is good.

I’m with you on the lump, but find soaking the wood a waste of time. It just makes it steam for about 30-45 minutes before it starts burning. Seems a waste of time to me. I’ve done it both ways and can’t tell a difference in taste, so cutting out a step makes me happy.
Good clean smoke taste is all about airflow. Either you got it right, or you don’t.
I’ve not had a big green egg, but a few years ago I picked up a knockoff made in Georgia on craiglist (guy though it was broken) for $50. Ceramic smokers are worth every bit of the exorbitant price. Drink as much beer as you like. Ignore it and it just chugs along at 225-250 for hours. Coming from the R2D2 brinkman, it makes it almost too easy. I have to keep the old offset stick burner around to make me feel better. But haven’t used it in 5 years…..

Rule #1 on raised beds. Invest some cash (<$50-75) in a automatic water timer, some 1/2″ base line, a few couplers, spaghetti tubing, and some 3 gallon per hour drip nozzles. I hook mine up with a water hose and a backflow preventer since I’m far too lazy to bury water lines. Just unhook and coil the hose once a month when my wife makes me mow grass or I can’t find the garden.
Mine waters every day at 6 & 6 for 30 minutes do everything gets 3 gallons of water per day. Fits my lazy butt perfect. Never gonna regret it.

At some point I decided I could no longer tell if I was an idiot who didn’t know the rules, or the refs were making it up as they went along. Either way, watching it was no fun.

Can’t say I’ve missed it. There is a reason ratings/attendance are/is dropping, and it isn’t because the teams are not athletic and entertaining.
Cowdog, I can assure you if it were not for the decades of the “Carolina Way” BS nobody would care about this. At least, I wouldn’t.
But given that UNC has spent decades creating a glass house filled with rock throwers, I certainly don’t feel sorry for them.
This is a university that has been giving away grades while bragging that their APR was great. Giving away degrees and bragging that their graduation rates were so high.
The problem isn’t that some of their athletes were poorly qualified and were led through programs designed to help them stay eligible. All universities do that.
The problem is that their athletes were poorly qualified, so they committed fraud to ensure they stay eligible while bragging that their excellent outcomes were caused by having a superior education environment and a better class of athlete. When this is proven to be a giant pile of BS, as most expected all along, they want to fall back on the “everybody does it mantra” while simultaneously claiming that the problems were not an athletic problem but one of university oversight. Even now, they can’t admit what we all know was true all along.
Unfortunately for them, most people don’t simply forget the decades of arrogance and would like to see some consequences for the big lie instead of just moving along and letting them clean up their mess.
BTW, I’m wondering. People still watch basketball? I’ve watched a grand total of 30 minutes in the past 3 years.
It has become a horrible game and I can’t sit through one anymore.

Glennon also needs to work on timing the receivers. He didn’t lead them at times. That should come with time.
I’m not worried about Glennon, per se. No pocket passer would excel behind that line, and expecting a guy in his first game starting to excel behind that line is too much. Without a better line, we may never know how good/bad glennon is.
