Sacco,
“Walmarter” says the NCAA doesn’t have jurisdiction over academic issues, which is the party line coming out of Chapel Hill. What he must mean is he doesn’t think they have jurisdiction over academic issues at UNC.
But they have penalized other schools for academic issues. So perhaps there’s one standard for UNC and another for everyone else.
packof81ParticipantWelcome Coach Keatts!
packof81ParticipantSo the first time it was Sweaty Gary poisoning the well and now it’s Sean vis Herb? And the media every time?
Like I said on the other thread, it’s a “tough neighborhood”. Apparently, NC State has lots of enemies. As soon as Gott lands a media gig, he’ll be badmouthing us too if he isn’t already.
Sure, the rest of the league has to play Duke and Carolina too but they don’t have to deal with such media hostility and bad blood. That doesn’t help with recruiting a top coach.
That being said, this announcement was powerful early.
packof81ParticipantSounds like it’s a done deal. Hope Keatts can get it done.
packof81ParticipantCongrats to Coach Keatts. I hope he is able to motivate the players we get to play together and win.
packof81ParticipantBecause of his ties to Sendek, I doubted from the start he’d want to coach here. I read somewhere his brother cautioned him not to take the job because he’d be coaching against UNC.
Lauren Brownlow writes this is a “tough neighborhood”. I agree. We are competing with crooks. They ruined our program in ’89 via their BOG proxy. Then they set up a fraudulent academic program on a scale never seen before to expand the pool of players to include those who weren’t college material. It appears likely they’ll skate on that. So yeah, it’s a “tough neighborhood”.
And it’s a “tough neighborhood” when most of the media badmouths you. Gary Parrish’s write up of Tom Crean’s ouster contained nary a disparaging word about IU. It was vastly different than the condescending editorial he wrote about Gottfried’s firing. Oh yes, and Calipari, about that deep tournament run …
packof81ParticipantThey got that dorknozzle Gary Parrish on TV in a too small jacket that makes him look like Jethro Bodean.

03/01/2017 at 8:16 PM in reply to: Your “Looks Like We Made It” Finale at Clemson Open Thread #119396packof81ParticipantGminski already up to his usual condescending self. He says our coach did well at the start but had “dipped” lately. More like he cratered.
packof81ParticipantWhat’s with all the hate toward State? Coaches get fired all the time. What am I missing here? I have to say though that the comments are pro-State.
The sportswriters, pundits and commentators have it in for us. Plain and simple. It the same thing that has been going on for the past 30 years. It’s just younger hatchet men. Some have UNC ties. Others just want to be on the winning side.
One of the commenters called Parrish out on the incomplete comparison he did, essentially cherry picking the data. This commenter pointed out Larranaga’s outstanding conference record and Gott’s poor conference record, a major point Parrish omitted in his hit piece.
Most comments are pro-State but not all.
And I agree with choppack there’s a lot of BS. Some of it is trolls posting such howlers as we fired Sendek, trotting out Chris Washburn, the Gollenbock allegations, et.al. Ad nauseum.
This crucifixion in the media does not help us to find a new coach. As for the commentators who went out of their way to bad mouth us during the Saturday game they were supposed to be commentating on, they ought to be banned from our games. Tell ESPN to send someone else.
packof81ParticipantSo we don’t want to make waves with the NCAA because they might get mad and penalize us more severely over the Eric Leak issue. Maybe I’m ignorant but I wasn’t aware the NCAA ever had anything on us because of Eric Leak’s activities anyway.
The broad consensus is that the NCAA has set the table for NOT taking down the men’s BBall banners. So when they follow through on this, will we then be told that it’s too late, that ship has sailed?
packof81ParticipantThis is a prime example of regulatory capture.
UNC’s delay tactics bought them enough time to fix things and apparently, they did.
I marvel at the breathtaking crookedness of UNC and the corruption of the NCAA. What UNC has pulled off is truly extraordinary, the biggest cheat in all of college sports with minimal sanctions.
This is an outrage. I agree with Ryebread on this one.
packof81ParticipantOff topic but CBS Sports is reporting that FGCU head coach Joe Dooley may resign his position to become an assistant at NC State.
packof81ParticipantThe BOG and UNC are 2 sides of the same coin. Both are totally corrupt. UNC has become too big to fail, just like the Wall Street banks.
All that matters over there are basketball championships. They thought nothing of ruining their academic reputation with outright institutional fraud by creating a bogus major that would keep athletes eligible who were not college material. SACS put them on probation. When has that ever happened? But they kept on with their wagon circling if only to get one more banner. True believers all, they are willing to ride that raft right over the falls and take the university with them. A UNC diploma won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on.
It’s a PUBLIC university partly funded by the taxpayer. But their minions are to be found in all levels of gov’t. And they protect and enable this scandalous fraud.
packof81ParticipantThis is very encouraging. Five Star.
09/08/2015 at 11:39 AM in reply to: “The most despicable act I have ever seen on a football field” #88408packof81ParticipantPunish them like they do in Singapore. Cane them.
packof81ParticipantSo reporting additional violations resets the clock for responding to the NCAA’s notice of allegations and delays any penalties. Does this mean they can just continue to report additional violations and indefinitely delay the response and whatever punishment may be forthcoming?
packof81ParticipantThe Southern Association of Colleges and Schools sorta had to do something or they’d look like a total sham. If it had been any other school, SACS would have yanked their accreditation years ago. They drug their feet on this for at least 9 months, looking for some wiggle room to avoid punishing Carolina. So they finally said, you’re making us look bad. We gotta do something. How’s about a year of probation?
To any other college, this would be a huge embarrassment but apparently they have no shame in Chapel Hill.
packof81Participantpackof81ParticipantI’ll believe it’s real when I see some banners plural come down.
Whatever else the NCAA does is OK with me so long as banners plural come down.
This is all about Men’s Basketball national championships. That’s why they did it. Erasing those will hit them where they live. Nothing less will do.
packof81Participantpackof81ParticipantWelcome aboard Mr. Kirk! You’ll get playing time here.
packof81ParticipantI was at State between the 2 championships. I feel like this season may herald a return to those heady days. It’s our turn to shine again.
Go pack!
packof81ParticipantI’m glad we are not getting accolades.
Agreed. This is just standard noise coming from Dukeys like Jay Bilas, Seth Davis and Mike Gminski.
Michigan State has already been awarded the East Regional by the pundits.
Michigan State is the safe pick for the pundits.
