Some good moments for WPN. Now how about a championship…
12/31/2014 at 1:46 PM in reply to: Bad defense. Bad offense. Bad. State lays egg, loses 76-60 #67526PackFamilyParticipantLike Rick and others have said, our attempt to become a better defensive team has resulted in us losing our offensive strength. Now we have neither. In Gott’s first season, we let Brown and Leslie run and score off the defensive rebound or set up the at-least-something-resembling-the-high-post. I can’t tell what we are playing now although BOTB has described it best.
This team still has a date with the NCAA… they just need to wake up a bit.
PackFamilyParticipantI’ll be there today, cheering on the Pack with my kids and the extended family. Hoping for a win
12/29/2014 at 8:20 PM in reply to: While The Wolfpack Basks In Victory, UNC Players Are Calling Each Other Out #67297PackFamilyParticipantI wouldn’t expect those top guns to take a step back.
As evidenced by Clemson laying the wood to Oklahoma right now in the Russell Athelic Bowl… with their backup QB
PackFamilyParticipantThat’s the beauty of Gottfried’s scheduling philosophy – build your team for March and play the numbers game to give yourself every opportunity to ‘just get in’.
So… Herb’s philosophy… JK, them’s fightin’ words around here.
I want to stick with MG for the long haul as i believe he is our best shot to get us to a championship. However, i am concerned how much recruiting has dropped off since Lowe left. MG can definitely coach a whole lot better, but unless these current kids really blossom over the next 2 years (which i think they can), we are looking at a Herb -like Tourney team. That means we make it but get bounced in the round of 64 or maybe 32.
12/28/2014 at 3:57 PM in reply to: While The Wolfpack Basks In Victory, UNC Players Are Calling Each Other Out #67226PackFamilyParticipantI agree with McCallum on this one. Glad we are trending up. As it pertains to UNC, it’s good for us that we are gaining an advantage as it translates to the recruiting trail, but that’s it. Basking in their implosion is inviting our own disasters.
PackFamilyParticipantRick, auto correct is not your friend…
PackFamilyParticipantRivalry aside, trying to look at UNC objectively: if they run the read option with Williams along with the occasional midfield throw, then UNC has a shot. I don’t know why their coach goes away from that strategy. MW runs the read option well.
PackFamilyParticipantI am hopeful we win today and think we will. But I am also concerned that a win will be extrapolated to something like a 10-win expectation for next year. We may actually win that much next year, but it is not to be expected at this point, even if we win big. We aren’t as good as the 35-7 beatdown of UNC nor as bad as the 41-0 beatdown by Clemson.
I think DD is our best chance to get us to the next level. But it’s still a ways to go to get past UL, CU, and FSU.
In any event, pulling hard for the Pack today!
PackFamilyParticipantHughes just committed to UNC
PackFamilyParticipantTell me about it. College football stadiums may be the most underutilized assets around. Don’t get me wrong, i love them for the 7 games a year i am in them.
PackFamilyParticipantWe have no answer for press ball. It’s also why we lost to SL in the tourney last year. Frustrating to watch
PackFamilyParticipantFastback, love The Simpson’s reference about the weekend!
Praying for Cronin. My uncle died of a brain aneurysm 25 years ago. The science has come a long way since then and they are better at treating the brain swelling that comes with the surgery (if that’s how they treat it here).
The end of the ‘Cuse ‘Nova game was awesome. I have to stop cheering against our conference members…
PackFamilyParticipantAre there additional benefits for “preferred walk-on”, like free meals with the team, etc.?
12/19/2014 at 1:50 PM in reply to: Bida Manda & Second Empire named top 100 restaurants in USA #65789PackFamilyParticipantWhiteShoes, have you tried Big Ed’s in City Market? Big Ed sold out a few years ago but it is still pretty much the same.
PackFamilyParticipantWhat the hell did that say?
Great for Markus
PackFamilyParticipantI don’t understand the disappointment on here. I am glad we fell to a bowl game we have a better shot to win. Belk v UGA?! They would kill us.
PackFamilyParticipantCDD deserves kudos for accomplishing the record with the talent he has. I am very happy with the finish to the season and the direction of the program. We beat the teams we were better than (WFU, SU, and the 4 OOC), lost to those better than us (FSU, CU, UL, BC) and pulled one minor upset (UNC), while destroying them. I don’t think we had more talent than WFU, SU and UNC, but we were playing better than they were and that credit goes to CDD.
However, it is a long way to get to the level of FSU, CU, and UL. While I expect a major regression of FSU next year, sans JW, CU and UL are still ascending and will be very tough. For CDD to break through he will need to accomplish some significant surprises on the recruiting trail and on the field. I believe he can and look forward to watching him and the staff do it.
I expect 8-4 regular season next year (4-4 conference), hopefully moving past BC on the Atlantic side. Anything more will be a significant achievement.
In regard to the staff, i wonder if he will make any changes. Hux got a lot of criticism but much of it was the lack of talent. At the same time, he has only a modest resume. I think the deciding factor will be if CDD prefers the scheme Hux is running.
PackFamilyParticipantJimbo is Larry in FSU garnet.
^Really? Jimbo seems to have his ear to the ground much more-so than Red Bull … but that’s just my opinion. Hmmph, interesting assertion.I agree as well and believe JF will be exposed without Winston next year. His lack of in-game coaching skills was reinforced when they lost to us in ’12. Good guy; mediocre coach with phenomenal talent
PackFamilyParticipantSeriously, let’s not cheer for MW to be hurt.
PackFamilyParticipantUNC following the formula and bringing the pressure on JB. If we don’t adjust and get the ball out quickly, this will turn fast
PackFamilyParticipantI can’t figure why Abu seems to be getting more minutes right now.
Abu is better. I love BJ, but they are also different players in terms of what they can bring.
PackFamilyParticipantAs good as we were once upon a time? Doubtful
8-9 wins in the modern era? Soon come.
CD: Interesting to see your prognostication for the long term. I don’t agree or disagree. I would like to understand your logic better… preferably in depth.
Would you mind sharing?
PackFamilyParticipantI agree with rye and the others who say that a key to a victory will be our ability to keep their offense off the field. Defense is the best answer to that but also controlling the clock with our own offense will help.
When i watch Jacoby, especially at ‘Cuse, i don’t see happy feet. I see a QB running for his life on every play. It gets worse as the game goes on as we don’t have the depth to substitute in for tired lineman. It seems the other coaches recognize this and keep up the pressure.
PackFamilyParticipantI’ll be there cheering on the Pack… hoping for a win; expecting a beatdown. I don’t believe we match up well against the Cards. We may bounce back as some teams do when there is no where to go but up (see UNC v ND)… but i don’t think it will be enough.
