Just finished watching the game. Ha, of course they would score 89 in this game!
About the (second to) last play, I couldn’t tell, but I wonder if Anya was looking for the rebound as Cat had put the ball up in traffic multiple times that game and could have been the play call – to try to score in traffic and get the and-1 – if the 3 for Maverick wasn’t there.
I kept thinking that Duke was going to eventually pull away and win by 12, but the Pack fought back. Good way to go out if you have to go out. Time for the most interesting season of all: the offseason.

I’d bet $100 of someone else’s money on the Pack. It just seems like a Pack thing to do (beat Duke today that is).

I think the coaches should let every contributing player rest until the ACCT and just play walk-ons and Kirk, then see how the team does in the tourney with rest. Might not make a difference, but it couldn’t hurt either way. Except possibly giving BC their only conference win of the year. Speaking of that; we didn’t have a banner year in either sport, but we can all thank our lucky stars we’re not BC. What a downer of a sports year for them. I don’t know how their hockey is, though, so maybe it’s not all bad for them.

Seriously…why are we not shutting Frenchie down at this point?

Because that would start the fears and speculations that he was going to transfer.

Chilling on the Mediterranean coast and decided to check in on how the baseball weekend turned out. Glad for a happy ending. So are they going to have to outhit everyone if they want to win? What is it about relying on offense around here anyway?

I ended up here for work and have stayed. I own a business with another guy. I’m certainly not pursuing citizenship or anything and I make regular trips back to the US, but I’ve grown to enjoy it. But don’t worry, I’m still white, blue, and red through and through.

Garrison Keillor described how the local townsfolk talked about new seasons as if it was unfathomable that it could be a new season already; as if they were shocked that it happened once again. Four surprises every year. Sports seasons are like that, too. For some reason baseball always seems to sneak up the most, though. I don’t know if it’s something about several feet of snow on the ground being at such an eternal distance from the dog days or what. I’m always glad to hear about it, though. Baseball already. Whoda thunk it. Hope I get to watch some games this year. It’s hard following through gametracker and SFN updates. But I’m thankful for them nonetheless.

As to the girls, they played hard but were out manned

That sounds like a line straight out of the current gender wars.

You could hear Vitale? The crowd was so loud, I couldn’t hear anything for most of the 2nd half. A lot of that was thanks to Caleb Martin also. That was a nice move. I wonder if that was a coach’s call or his own initiative. It took the crowd a little bit to realize that they were yelling like crazy while their guy was on the line shooting free throws.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about with UNC having no self-imposed ban. I’ve heard that Roy Williams is taking his post-game beverage in an imitation crystal drinking glass instead of real crystal. How much more can a person take? Oh, the humanity.

According to Pick Six Previews, of the Bottom 10 P5 teams in recruiting, 4 are from the ACC. 3 of those in the Atlantic Division. Quite the recruiting disparity between the top and bottom of the Atlantic – best in the country to worst in the country all in one division.
Also, UAB with a better recruiting class than Syracuse and BC. That’s UAB of the we-don’t-have-a-football-program fame.

Here’s an article about ACC rankings in general and the dominance of FSU/Clemson. Can’t remember if this was already posted on here or not.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/90689/recruiting-rankings-over-last-decade-show-why-florida-state-clemson-have-pulled-away

    Interesting tidbit:

You can see exactly why Florida State and Clemson have opened up a gaping lead on the rest of the Atlantic. The Seminoles are on pace to have the No. 1 class in the ACC in all seven seasons under Jimbo Fisher. Clemson has turned it on under Dabo Swinney, too. The Tigers have five top-13 classes in the past five years after having only two in the previous five classes. Now, look at the next-highest Atlantic team. That would be NC State, behind five teams from the Coastal. Louisville has had an average class rank of No. 7 in its three years in the ACC so it’s not as if they are a Top 25 recruiting program, either.

We don’t always win basketball games. But when we do, we prefer to beat Top 25 teams.
    Stay hungry, my friends.

Wow, that’s a demoralizing loss. If he’d missed the shot at the end, would he have gotten free throws for the foul I wonder.

Wow, that’s really shocking about Clemson. VaWolf, you should go around to schools and give lectures on the importance of OOC scheduling. You could guarantee a path to the NCAA Tourney (different from an appearance in the NCAAT) and charge large speaking fees. It’d be like those Insider articles on ESPN. Sure, you could find this information somewhere else, but wouldn’t you rather pay for it and feel exclusive?

I don’t know how some of those guys are out there playing in short sleeves. I don’t care how much you run around, that is cooooold stuff. They have got to be frozen out there. I don’t know how you play as a giant icicle.

Seriously, though, the offense in that game was lacking to say the least. The crazy thing is that they were a reversed call away from having a chance to tie in the last seconds. They had chances all game to tie and/or pull ahead despite a crummy (in some areas) performance. They show that there are tools in the tool belt (not tons to be sure). There were wide open guys many times. A few extra passes (not to mention a few made free throws – ugh) and they win that game. I don’t think this team is going to achieve greatness, but there is a chance to achieve respectability without Cat having to drive on 5 guys and make acrobatic shots all game. I think they’ll get there as they seem to do so each season. The question is: will it be enough?

Just watched the game (replay). I know some people have a problem with the black uniforms. I actually liked them. Thought black was completely appropriate. Now, if only the band could learn a dirge.

I liked seeing Rowan, not just drive, but also looking to dish the ball and getting a nice drive and dish toward the end of the game. If he can keep getting his shot down, drive to the basket, and have good vision to pass, that will be a nice multi-dimensional element of the team. Not to mention his defense is leaps and bounds above where it was in game 1. Was also pleased to see the bigs involved. Turned into a nice road win.
