I’ll see your eight, Mr. Monies, sirs, and I’ll raise you nine.

How about nine pieces of eight. Just to keep with the “eight” theme. Nine you say? I assume that means safe harbors.

It’s always something. If it’s not the offense, it’s the defense. If it’s not the defense, it’s the offense. This year, it’s the kicking game. No offense to our kicker, because I did feel bad for him and hate it for him, but if we had almost any other kicker from our past, Saturday could have possibly been the first loss of the season.

That is a sadness. It must have gone straight to the bit bucket.

It was a masterpiece of logic and prose and I feel physical anguish at knowing the world has been deprived of my genius.

Call up Julian Assange and/or Russia. They should be able to locate that for you. Once they’re done with it.

    Re: the polls.
I had also noticed the complete lack of votes. I was not surprised that they were not in the Top 25. I was surprised that they did not receive even a single vote. I am glad that people are not giving them some really high ranking based on the hype of certain players. I’d rather them surprise people than have to live up to hype.

Wuf, we all know you’ve been busy prank calling Buck Showalter and lighting paper bags of poop on fire on Ubaldo Jimenez’s doorstep, ringing the doorbell and running. It’s time to let it go, man.

I’d say the effort was worth at least one shoe. Or maybe just a shoelace.

^ No doubt that’s progress. This wasn’t barely losing to Wake or a middle-of-the-road team. That was taking it to a top team on their turf on homecoming with a rabid crowd in your ear and doing more than enough to win the game. Yeah, there were mistakes, but Clemson is the team that feels lucky to be on the winning end. Had State won, they would have earned it.

I dedicate this song to all of us who dared to dream a dream during this game (and this is intentionally pre-fame Susan Boyle; here’s to becoming post-fame…well, maybe not Susan Boyle, but you get the point)

And just in case you’ve never looked at the lyrics closely, or even listened to this song, it is quite apt if you read through them.

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I prayed that God would be forgiving

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hopes apart
And they turn your dreams to shame

Still I dream he’d come to me
And we would live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I’m living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

Just finished watching the Slip-n-Slide Bowl.

    * If we’d not come out on the winning end, I’d be angry that they played that game. That was a tough game to watch; holding my breath at every snap because you can’t take anything for granted.

    * I’ve never seen a crowd cheer more for an ugly, dead-duck field goal kick that barely made it over (that wasn’t at a pee-wee game). But I was cheering just as hard. Tough, tough conditions for the kickers.

    * Don’t understand why two hands weren’t on the ball at all times, especially in traffic.

    * Don’t know why they didn’t go for the all-out block on every punt. It’s not like they were able to get any kind of return and you knew that the punter needed an extra second to secure the ball before he could kick it. Thankfully it worked out even without the all-out block.

    * No stats (except for Matt Dayes and the defense) from that game should count toward season averages. That game was a stat killer.

    * That was fun to watch (on TV) and I’m glad the good guys prevailed. Notre Dame is not the team everyone expected at the beginning of the season, but it was nice to see a win against them no matter the circumstances.

My mom’s side of the family hails from Buffalo, but they didn’t bring their fan persuasions with them when they moved to the DC area. Instead, we grew up rooting for the home team.
So, will New England parlay Jacoby’s one quality non-injured start into a valuable trade deal in the future a la Matt Cassel (I realize there was a lot more to Cassel than one start)? If anyone can, the Patriots can. They are the Masters of the Dark Universe.

So, are you suggesting that the Irish are too afraid to come to Raleigh and take on the Pack, so they’re appealing to a higher power to bail them out?

I think the staple gun was ranked higher though

Is that a real nickname or is that an autocorrect-given nickname?

I predicted 31-17 Pack in the other thread, so I will take credit for that…however, the real score was Pack 33, Deacs 7, Zebras 9. The ‘overinvolvement’ of the stripes aided several Deac scoring drives and plugged up a couple of ours. So, yes I am bitchin’ about the refs after a good win-progress!

I went back and read that thread postgame and noticed that. You also predicted a FG which I assume meant a FG of significance (no chip shot, although chip shots haven’t even been chip shots), so kudos for your prescience.

The thoughts spinning round my mind after yesterday’s pigskin affairs:

Will ND even be ranked when the Pack plays them?

Will Virginia win a game this year?

Will Duke’s “enhanced football experience” also include winning?

Is FSU going to have a bad year or will Louisville have a really good year? Or was it just a fluke game?

Will the Pack come out on top in a competitive game against a decent/good opponent this year?

What’s the deal with the “nobody’s” playing the “big boys” so close and even winning some? Is this the NCAA tournament or something?

Will the NCAA stop forcing student athletes to choose between “men’s” and “women’s” sports? (sorry, couldn’t resist! tongue in cheek, so you know it’s all good)

Well at least we know what it takes to get some chatter going around here. Strange times we live in. We never had guns growing up; never shot, never hunted, etc. A few years ago, both my parents got CCW – my mom more at my dad’s behest. I worked at a shooting range for two years in high school. People always asked me how often I shot. The answer is never. It was only recently when we went to a friend’s house out beyond the boonies and his neighbor had an AK shotgun (I guess a Saiga) that I finally shot a gun (besides BB and pellet). I quite enjoyed it and am looking forward to my next chance. Makes me wonder why I passed up shooting all these years.

If you had held a gun to my head and asked me which year this was for Doeren, I would have sworn it was his 3rd. I guess I blocked his first season out of my mind, too.

Good grief. Woke up this morning and went looking for the replay to watch. Couldn’t find it in the replay list and went and saw that it was still live. Wasn’t expecting that at all. Got to watch the last few innings live which doesn’t usually get to happen. Get some rest boys.

Yes, yes we do. One of my favorite names ever and I wish he’d pronounce it that way.

Or at least come out to some guitar shredding metal song and have a designated DEATHeRAGE cheering section full of long-haired headbangers that headbanged in unison when he walked up for his at-bat. It’s the simple things that go a long way.
