I have no problem with Gary. I always enjoyed listening to him. I thought he had a good radio sports announcer voice and for me, that’s a big part of the enjoyment of listening. But, it is fun to point out people’s idiosyncrasies. And “check that” is a good one.

    – The Cheats are still The Cheats. That’s all.

Meaning they get about a 5-loss cushion in the nonconference portion of the season before feeling required to drop them out of the Top 25 (unless they’re able to strategically space the losses)?

^ Nice use of “check that”.
I think it’s a great phrase. It neutralizes the adage of think before you speak. “Honey, that dress makes you look fat…check that…beautiful.” It’s a much better phrase than, say, “Like I said…” I’ve heard many a conversation continue endlessly thanks to that phrase.

My Top 10 would go something like this:

    10) Any play from the UNC game
    9) Any play from the UNC game
    8) Any play from the UNC game
    7) Any play from the UNC game
    6) Any play from the UNC game
    5) Any play from the UNC game
    4) Any play from the UNC game
    3) Any play from the UNC game
    2) Any play from the UNC game
    1) Jacoby Brissett TD throw against FSU

I have not read the game thread, so maybe this was discussed there (I just finished watching the game). After Wofford’s shot to go ahead, I was surprised that they didn’t go back and make sure that the clock was set right since it was such a close game and by that time you’re counting in tenths of seconds. So, after the wave-off of the shot, I went back to check that. The ball was clearly through the cylinder at 2.0 seconds. If you look at it in super slo-mo, perhaps even 2.1. Is “through the cylinder” when the clock should stop? If so, Trevor should have had his extra .1 second that he needed to get the shot through. But, they never checked the clock or if they did, they didn’t reset it like it should have been.

What is a little encouraging is to see that there’s a guy who can hit a last second shot even if if, this time, he was apparently .1 seconds too late.

I saw the game and heard the comments and was waiting for someone on here to talk about them. Before the break, one of the announcers says something about how he wants to comment on the situation. I was waiting for him to also get a few jabs in, but when they came back, he just wanted to talk about what a hero Roy is. They also seemed to imply (or maybe it was stated directly) that the program had suffered enough and taken steps to deal with the problem – people had been fired, recruits had been lost. So, let’s not act like nothing has been done about it. Thus, the UNC angle was “fairly” presented. It was such a joke. Forget that multiple championships were won (ACC and national) during all of this crap. A few people have been fired and they’ve lost recruits. Let’s not react too harshly.
It was no wonder that Roy had to kneel down. He probably collapsed under the weight of all the praise being heaped on him. These coaches that have to maneuver their teams through scandals are heroes and saints. The guy doesn’t get enough credit; certainly not enough blame.

How about the expandable screen used in U2’s last tour? It could add a new level of excitement as it periodically stretches down to the middle of the floor causing players to have to maneuver around it.
In case you aren’t a U2 fan or didn’t have the pleasure of attending one of their concerts on that tour, here’s a link: http://www.hoberman.com/portfolio/u2360.php?projectname=Expanding+Video+Screen+(U2)

Massive conspiracies involving large amounts of people upholding it and keeping the secret only happen in Hollywood movies and Chapel Hill athletic departments.

I assume that “$” was a Freudian slip.

I like the idea of Art Monk being an ACC legend. And no, wufpup, it will never get old.

^^ I think they might just have pictures of teams who have played there in the past (and who also could play there in the near future?). Didn’t State play USF in the Belk Bowl? Also, if you click the Corporate Packages link, there’s an old picture of Carolina on that page. A picture of the glory days when cheating was respectable and everyone was doing it.

^^ Is that rule right after the one that says, “A manager who stays on the floor too long after a timeout will be issued a technical foul”?

I wonder how many scoreless overtimes you have to go through before they decide the game with pistols.

Man, you know it’s bad when you’re partying like it’s 1999 when WF has to miss a FG to send your 0-0 game into overtime (talkin to you, Beamer).

What’s the opposite of a barn burner? That’s what VT and WF are in the midst of right now. I thought for sure there was an error in ESPN’s update thing or something when it was 0-0 with 1:21 left.

Freshman year. My first ever NC State basketball game. Second row. Needless to say, I was there (although I have no memory of getting a poster to commemorate it).

That was one of the best walk-on/clear the bench times I’ve seen.
