    Reds of the world unite

    Do red-necks count?
I did my part to participate in the festivities. We went out of the city to celebrate with our comrades by grilling out.
SFN is starting to feel so comfortable to visit. Like a home away from home…away from home.

I’ve seen faster moving games that were not very entertaining. Team 1 runs down the court quickly and makes a poor shot that bricks and results in a fast break by Team 2 who runs down the court quickly and makes a poor shot and bricks that precipitates yet another fast break and missed shot. Eventually someone makes it and you’re trying to catch your breath from watching such crap. Fast crap is still crap. I guess technically fast crap is diarrhea.

Cowdog, you just couldn’t help yourself, could you? Can’t just let people wallow a little bit. Gotta spoil it with good news.

Will Kirk still get the bump in ranking for UK being interested, even if only for a day?
Stellar is a hard standard to meet. Tubular, maybe? Narly? (or is it gnarly?) Or is gnarly only used for guys like this:

I think I’ve digressed. But I can’t remember where I started, so it’s hard to tell.

Same sentiments about Rodon. It’s easy to feel good for him when the team was on the losing end. They certainly did rough up the starting pitcher whose name I’m too lazy to look up the spelling of and not clever enough to come up with a smart aleck spelling such as Smartydijon.

Inflatable crowd? Do they still count in the headcount for attendance? I can see the wheels turning down the road (from NC State; not from me).

I’m pretty sure I saw this guy in the stands during yesterday’s game.

OK, I get it. “Stellar” was just a play on “Kirk,” right?
This is great news. I hope his coach doesn’t cry too hard.
Is he 6’7″ with or without the hair?

Just watched the attendance-record-setting O’s/White Sox game. Rodon tore through the 8th inning in about 5 pitches.

^In that case, think of this as starting the recruiting process a few years early. Hopefully Gott tells him to hold onto his business card, just in case.
We’ll be there for you, Shaun. Now, or in a few years.

Yeah, they mentioned that during the broadcast. Also mentioned that it was a sold-out crowd, but it was pretty sparsely attended early on due to people not being able to get in. Buck was late, but was at a funeral; was unclear if he planned to be late or if it was because of the protests. Watching the Sunday game now. What an utter beatdown. Would be nice to be able to bag extra runs and disperse them throughout the season.

Can someone smarter than me explain why Piedmonte was pulled so early with a low pitch count? Is he hurt or something?
The blown call at the plate you referenced: I was watching on ESPN3 – he nearly had him, but with the blind sweep of the hand, he caught him in the torso after the runner’s feet had already hit the plate. A little further over and he would have had him. What a terrible inning.
I was watching Saturday’s O’s/Sox game at the same time I was watching the 2nd Pack/Hoo game. Eerily similar – State/O’s held slim lead until a freak inning gave up the lead. Then, both won with a walk-off homer in the 10th. Always nice when the good guy wins.

Gopack.com said ESPN3. I open up ESPN3 this morning and nothing. Looks like I didn’t miss much.

Nice to have you back (unless I’ve missed other posts, but I don’t think I have). A winning streak would be nice. Let’s at least hope for a playing streak. At least they’ll be on ESPN3 and I can watch it, assuming they play. I’ve seen plenty of movies where a struggling team goes on a late winning streak. These days, life imitates art.
Azaleas? Don’t know the meaning of the word. We had a blizzard the other day (literally). It’s all melted now, though.

Am I the only one who thinks “North Carolina St” looks weird? Either NC State or North Carolina State.

Just like the rule, there is no continuation in college basketball (although, regarding the rule, there might as well be). Every year is a blank slate. The landscape is completely changed each year – coaches shuffling to different teams, players transferring or leaving early. Last year means nothing. There’s no real building upon each year; just gathering the pieces and trying to put something back together. I think Gottfried has done a good job of that actually. Unfortunately it means that each year we have to wait for the team to develop throughout the year and hope they are battle-tested by the ACCT rather than going into a season with high expectations (except year 2 of course). The preseason Top 25 is a crapshoot with the exception, maybe, of a few top teams (and UNC being in the top 10 or 15 no matter what the circumstances). Open opportunities and great unknowns. This is college basketball, for better or worse.

And for those needing to express their feelings in sound effect:

^ Wuf, they sure don’t make them like that anymore; despite weed being legal in some places now.

Oh, we’ve got the taters. They’re in a bin in our pantry. Tater planting is still a month away. That’s what the May holidays are for. Everyone will go out to their dacha or their parents’ house in the village where every bit of land they own is converted into plantable space and they’ll spend all week planting potatoes. I went to a friend’s house in the village over a year ago and they had just tons and tons of potatoes stored up for their small family; probably about a million more than they needed to get by. He filled up a huge sack or two for me to take home. (By the way, that same guy just got running water for the first time last year; hand dug a ditch about 10 feet deep from the main pipe to the house) They don’t play around when it comes to potatoes. Extreme gardening. Or survival gardening. Or apocalypse gardening.

Agree about Grayson Allen. The next Duke white guy that everyone hates. He had a lot of good plays in the championship game. The one I remember most, though, was the whiplash phantom foul. Is that the new flop?

Speaking of 2016 Basketball Outlook, in this article about officials saying they didn’t see the ball-off-the-finger angle, when they actually did, there’s also this little nugget that some people will probably be glad to see if it happens:

Gavitt said the NCAA plans on naming a replacement for Adams within the next two weeks.

Gavitt would also like to see more nationalization of officials during the regular season, not just in the NCAA tournament.

“My hope is that with the change of leadership we will look at a more centralized group of officials,” Gavitt said. “There are now fewer numbers of coordinators at the conference level with agreements between conferences. The officials are independent coordinators. But we’re hoping that we can come together on this. It would take all the parties to come together.”

I’m not big on moral victories either, but it’s hard not to come away feeling like you did some really good things in that series. It always helps, though, when the 1 win in a series is the last one and especially when it comes with a bang. It’s a good thing it came with a bang, too, because FSU was starting to get a little bang of their own.
