We were 2.5 point favorites. This was a huge win against a relatively equal opponent. Canada continues to have the offense clicking on all cylinders (though we haven’t played a top 100 team yet). He is living up to expectations built at Wisconsin.

The largest difference in this game was the defense, who was embarrassed against 2 teams with inferior talent. Sure GA Tech was scared by GA Southern, but then ODU comes to town and scorches the D. The offense will have to win games for us and the D just needs to gradually improve.

Hopefully we can make a crappy bowl so the recruiters won’t have an empty sales pitch.

Vegas has us 1.5 point favorites. The worst team in the ACC last year hasn’t impressed anyone this year.

I think it’s easy to forget that nc state bad years are last place and good years are middle of ACC. So if DD hits his stride we can compete for Meineke Car Bowls again.

There’s no need to dichotomize the opinion on DD. We haven’t learned whether DD will succeed or not. But do we feel better or worse about his chances after the first two games? You gotta feel worse. He has failed so far.

To say ZERO correlation between skill sets of program building and “coaching” is wrong. You could say LOW but that’s speculation. I don’t buy it. A superior coach optimizes talent. I haven’t seen that.

I have a good feeling about DD. That feeling has steadily deteriorated every game he’s coached.

If you’re not starting to lose faith in DD then you must not be watching Season 2 Episode 2. Let the excuses begin.

    Forever young.

If the fans wear black and no one is around to see it…are they really wearing black?

Wouldn’t sweat it no one is watching the game outside us lunatic fringe.

Their RB I never read about or know his name is definitely on his way to a 100+ day. I still stick to my 160 prediction about 20% there on first drive.

Don’t give up unless you’re a post Valvano State fan. Oh the irony V.

I wonder how many of our players whittled down their last 3 schools to 1) NC State 2) ODU 3) GA Southern….

I’m a bit surprised we are 16.5 point favorites. 65.5 over/under so at least we can expect some offense. Sadly our defense is expected to give up approximately 24 points.

    I want a SFN poll…will ODU’s 2-star running back rush for 100-150 OR 150+? I’m thinking 170 yards with 2 TDs.

The most hilarious comments are from the Arizona fans who are ecstatic at this news. It seems ASU basketball is similar to NCSU football…and Herb is their TOB (Jeb would have NEVER fired this man…not in a million years). Certainly both schools exhibit loser status-quo mentalities but at least now we have a competent AD who is willing to fire coaches if they can’t optimize their teams commensurate with the resources provided.

We were 20.5 point favorites. Anyone who spins this game into a positive is….well it’s that mindset that has in part allowed State leadership to let the athletics program muddle along insignificantly for decades.

This was an atrocious performance. We can HOPE its an aberration but this is quite frightening to see our defense gashed by a HUGE underdog. I don’t think any sweeping conclusions can be drawn but the takeaway is this game is a huge red flag. Whatever your preseason win/loss estimate was…you subtract a game or two.

The goal this year is to not dig this program into a deeper hole. Losing to no-name teams is terrible for recruiting. If you schedule cupcakes you better beat them. The jury is still out on DD but he continues to underwhelm.

    Hope springs eternal.

If calling up schools and begging them to play a series with us is a philosophy then yes we have a great one.

NC State will ALWAYS be in a rebuilding phase with a few good years just from normally distributed chance. To try to time our good years is futile. Therefore logic dictates you schedule marquee games whenever as often as possible (helps to have a Lee Fowler at another big time school). If school wises up and buyouts the game then fine we get paid if not then we get lucky and we get really lucky if we have an NFL QB who gives us a fighting chance for an outlying 2+ distribution season and actually beat the storied program.

Yow is a huge upgrade but to think she can turn a poor resourced program into gold is insanity. You need $$$ to be good. No Phil Knight? T Boone? Dreaming loses it’s luster after a decade or two no???

1- so tier 2 or 3 schools WV and Miss St should pacify the fan base? Is this a Lee Fowler mindset? That’s how far you realize we have fallen….errr really have always been in the Tier 4 category. Tier 5 would be Dukes of the world.

2- our best series mean nothing until we actually play them. They have been consistently been cancelled. Since the Ohio State and South Caroline games, no Tier 1 series. Still none on the radar.

Not that I care (in an apathetic stage) just don’t agree with the assertion.

Hope springs eternal for 16 ACC teams. Only 1, maybe 2, will receive “tier 1” national coverage.

A down year at 41st is the biggest takeaway I had. Light years ahead of the old regime. Yow’s (and Woodson’s) greatest and singular most important initiative, due to its ever lasting benefits, will be to build the sports endowment and increase general fundraising from a laughingly low level (historically bottom 3 of ACC).

For all the bluster State fans spew about being the best fans the boast rings hollow until it is evidenced by fundraising.

    Serious question.

How’s 2015 class coming along? Looks pretty bleak. Bleak recruiting isn’t good when your core paradigm is to get the best players and win with sheer talent.

    I see the following scenarios:

Worst Case: Minor sanctions confined to only football.
Base Case: Minor sanctions on entire athletic program which affect basketball program though prospectively and in minor form.
Best Case: 2005 banner comes down

Pipe Dream: 2005 & 2009 banners come down and Roy is released into the wild where we never have to hear the pompous fool speak again.

The DA drops the charges just before public discovery. For anyone to have hope for justice doesn’t grasp how blatant and public an act of UNC protectionism and support that was.

Whatever happens will be a fraction of the punishment deserved. I gloated the first few years of the investigation and came out a fool.

How’s that 2015 class coming along?

This program is a house of cards it takes one dud recruiting class to go from Bubble team *bravo* to dumpster fire. Relying on transfers is like funding long term assets with overnight liabilities. It works fine until it doesn’t.

So take a sigh of relief thank goodness we kicked the can.

A few unaffiliated non-NC natives seem to think the 2005 banner coming down is a given. My oh my do they have no idea how hard that might be.

Debbie Yow Translation: “We are so friggin pathetic, the last thing I am worried about is scheduling. The coach I hired just handed us our worst season in 30 years!!!”

Our school absolutely sucks in so many facets. I’m mildly embarrassed when I tell people I went there. Similar to a light fart in an elevator.

Hopefully Goodnight will bequeath a couple billion plus when he croaks. It is our only hope to be nationally respectable institution. We are poor and inept and you don’t just turn into a top 25 institution overnight. It takes money.

*Polite Golf Clap* Bravo Elliot that’s an eye popping number. I wonder what else is eye popping about your career…

Out of his 901 wins, a whopping 27% are against ACC teams.

His ACC record is 244-234, or 51% winning percentage.

His conference record when coaching New Mexico State, 36-72, or 33.3%.

    His overall win/loss record: 901-630. That’s good for 58.9%.

Hmmmm so how do you have a 49% win ratio in conference yet you have an overall win ratio of 59%???

    Non-conference record: 621-324, or 65.7%.

Cupcake city baby. But yeah back to 900 wins. That’s a lot ain’t it Faison? 621 of 900 were out of conference. 7 of 10 games this man ever won, were against the likes of the Central and Campbells of the world. I wonder if he sleeps well? Or does he keep wondering how he hasn’t been discovered as a fraud?

The biggest question, other than how this man was ever hired, is how in the world is he still employed at a school that could contend for ACC titles with a good coach???

*Sarcasm Alert* avert your eyes if you must. But really we have nothing to worry about we just lost a McD AA to transfer which was perfectly fine with 90% of the fan-base about a month ago. So really who cares about Graham we are so stacked at PG we can lose McD AA’s without batting an eye.

Tough choice. On the one hand, you go to a school that regularly competes for Final 4s. Chances are better than 50% you play in one before 4 year eligibility expires.

On the other hand, you go to a school that has a fan base who would cut off their right hand for an Elite 8, which has occurred about 3 times in NC State history.

Gott’s newest pitch….we do have good flexibility though! You could always transfer if you don’t like it.

I hope he comes but if he asked me my honest opinion, I’d tell him don’t be a fool.
