I can’t drink beer because I have to help coach a Homeschool JV team at 7:45. I’m afraid if I had one, I wouldn’t stop and I’d show up drunk and crying. Not a great encouragment for the team.

Louisville is bragging that they won’t let us across the 50.
I’m hoping we turn it around. Go pack.

I read the article about an hour ago. The comparrison between BC, Duke and our beloved pack is sickening. Add up the number of Freshmen and Sophmores starting and on the two deep. NCSU 26, BC 16, Duke 15. With most of our 25 on defense and the mistakes that are attributed to youth that explains a lot about our Defense. But you can call for Huxtable to be fired if you want.

Love the effort and the apparent results of recruiting. That’s the future. Just read we have 8 guys left from O Brian’s last full recruiting class. 8
DD came in saved the first class and added to it. Was solid his second, and this 3rd class looks to be solid for it’s size.
The defense is far younger than the Offense and it shows.
The two lines are where our experiance are, but no one is saying that’s a point of strength. So, O Brian did not leave superstars there.
But another point about players is sometimes coaches are similar and they get the most out of what is left. DD plays a differnt game and he needs his guy.
It’s true that recruiting is very important. How could Mack Brown go 1 and 10 twice with UNC recruits. Apparently not his guys and not as good as he would get. I’m still trusting the path we are on. Support your team and coach guys.

Papajohn, ECU is not in the ACC. We did not win all our OOC last year.
rtpack24 – there are several aspects to coaching, and college coaching staffs have the added biggie of recruiting which may be more important than all the others. Bobby Bowden thinks so. Practice is one part under control, but just coaching 15 year olds I can tell you that game time is tough. You do what you can to have folks watching clock, player personnel and then boom, time for a fast decision. It’s dificult and I felt like the staff did well at the end of the first half. The refs did not even review and the announcers said it was a reviewable situation. I guess the refs felt we were beat and who cares about our field goal. But I have learned not to chew on a coaches ass for things like that unless it’s something that happens a lot.

Gray Wolf, thanks for the assessment. I had to leave at halftime to coach a team and have only begun to watch the 2nd. Not sure why, but I live for the pain I guess. OUr first drive, 3rd and medium, Jacobie should have completed the short pass… I do think this young team got busted up early and did not know how to get their head right. Jacobie seemed out of sorts for the first time all season. I saw 14-0 as a real possiblity before our first possession but thought we would be OK. It got worse. Hopefully they will grow and get angry about it.

If we lose well to BC I won’t throw in the towel. We could go 4-4 and then finish 8-4. GT will be strength on weakness though. Keep the faith Wolfpack nation!

More thoughts on our D in regards to the QB. Jameis threaded two perfect passes just past Tocho for two TDs. I don’t expect a very good freshmen to be quite as accurate.
Things have to go our way and we have to bring it on both sides of the ball but I am thinking Watson will not shread us. And if he doesn’t we do have a good chance.

I believe we have a chance but the first two questions will make a difference between a hard fought battle to the end or an arse whupping.
And I think if we are ready to play we will be good consistently the rest of the season.
    so
    1. On my knees praying so
    2. Ditto, goes with 1.
    3. Yes, for the most part. This is the best Oline we have had in a long time. And staying healthy.
    4. Good but UNC made him look great. Hope we make him look like a freshman
    5. If we are good on 1 & 2, the improving defense should be able to keep them in the range that
    6. If so we should win, see 5.

Yea I’m starting to be too confident and considering it’s at DV, if we do well, we probably just make a game of it and loose a close one. But if we get hit in the mouth and don’t fight angry, it’s ugly.

I expect the Defense to get better this year because of youth.
Two touchdowns on Toto Tocho were just inches from being deflected. My thought is next year they are knocked down, maybe even by the end of this year. I’m tired by all of the criticism of the DC. The youngest players are on defense.

But…. I just hope we come to play the rest of the year like we did Saturday. Last year was not the case. Here’s to staying healthy and focused.

The first player down in the hurry up had been leg whipped. ON TV, the replay clearly showed it. It’s time to quit calling everything a cheat. But I have no problems with fans booing injured players in this situation until the NCAA change the rules. But they may not. There are some calling for rules to help the defense, like giving them 10 seconds to make substitutions. I call BS on that though.

My son has been watching Reggie all season. Maybe he is 4 star based on last year. Coming into the season he was one of the best in Guilford county. Supposely he worked with a trainer (the type that develops atheletes, not the everyday variety) through the summer. He is more explosive and faster this year. He is now arguably the best footballer in Guilford county. Beyond that is someone else’s call.
    This is a great get.
The paper this morning talked about how it was a local boy from Page HS who made the tackle on Jacoby that caused the fumble in the 2nd half and got FSU their first lead. These are the kids we need to keep in state, and at State.
Hopefully Doren will win increasingly more battles for the best in state, every year.

You see that stupid NCSU crazy optimism creaping in just before game time don’t you, And Winston still has 23 more hours to screw up and get removed from the line up.

Graywolf, thanks for the correction. I guess somethings get implanted in my mind and it’s hard to correct the view. What is great about the facts you presented is that the length of the longest run decreased with each game. Dare we hope we hold FSU to a run of no longer than 15 yards?

I’m just looking for reasons to be optimistic the rest of the season. And I’m not sure anyone in conference is unbeatable by us (1 out 20 happens!). But FSU might be.
Maybe if they really are weaker on D, and we are as good on offense as my imagination lets me hope, we win 47-46. My lastest worthless prediction.

The two biggest problems are really one in the same “the inability by the front six to put pressure on the QB (hanging an average secondary out to dry) AND stopping teams on third down”. It seems we often put teams in 3rd and long, but the inability to pressure the QB allows them time to complete the 8-15 yarder for a 1st down. Of course, as seen in a reply to one of my posts, there may not be as many 3rd downs this game. I would also say that giving up the big play, specifically on the ground is one of our biggest problems. It seems our run defense will be looking good and then give up a 63 yarder. Here’s to better presure and limiting the big plays.

Good article in Gboro News and Record about Galaspy this AM. He has a list of about 6 schools, two ACC, Duke and State. He is having a hell of a senior season this year. A power runner who has improved his quickness. I’m hoping I get to continue to pull for him for many more years.

ryebread, I believe the goal list was spotted on the Road Trip video. So yes they are our Team goals of which UNC and FSU couldn’t get past #1.

Should get a title game in next 3 weeks.

Unless Clemson beats FSU (a little more likely with the Jameis Winston Fhritp screwup) and then UNC beats Clemson, one of our games with FSU or Clemson will be for the conference Title Belt. Let’s go, smack down time.

On the down side, I would not want to play FSU after they have just lost. But it is what it is.

State is in a recruiting battle for about 10 players right now. If these uniforms help us get 4 great players for 2015, it’s well worth it. And that’s what the uniform changes are about. I love what Oregon has done, and I love the way they play. Doren is getting better players, no matter what happens this year, I like they young players he has brought in. Cool and varied Uniforms are one of the tools to recruit. And the best players win the games. Ask Bowden.

I’m an old fart but love the uniforms. I also love what it does for recruiting. If we ever move up to where we are consistantly big time, like Va Tech did, then we may not need to do this but for now, I love that we are using to our advantage.

If we had not seen progress through the year I would have sworn that pic was photo shopped. That weight loss should really make a difference for endurance and general quickness under that basket. Gonna be a great year for the front court.

Eastern over Lex any day. I live in West but NCSU is in the east. And the red – vinegar based slaw is best too. But I’ll take both over SC mustard or those other strange creations outside of NC.

Things change from year to year, only with the old ball coach planted at SC for so long have they achieved a higher status than West Va. Before they were an SEC doormat and no better than Mississippi State.
This is good improvement, and as much as I hate playing ECU if we have the program we should have I would love to watch us beat the crap out of them.

Well the OOC home games suck this year no doubt, but I trust where the program is headed. I think I have agreed with everything Yow has said. There are some State Fans readers that I never agree with. I think it’s unfair to rate past OOC teams by Power 5 conferences and ignore the Big East or even the best of the teams outside the then top 6. ECU will always bring a crowd and they are never an easy win. Cincy, Connecticut, Central Florida, Tenn, were all good opponents. We just need to get back to several solid teams and not 3 or 4 cupcakes. And I believe we will. One cupcake a year is enough.

I’d rather be delusionally optimistic than morbidly pessimistic.

In the last 15 years or so, NCSU has gone as their QB has gone. That is probably because we have maintained something close to average talent and a High end QB has put us in bowels and during the QB gaps, we have sucked. Last year was no different. I think if our starting QB had stayed healthy, he would performed better in the heat of the ACC. But as article stated, lack of depth showed as injuries piled up. O Brian’s last couple recruiting years sucked and it showed but all the talk is like we are way behind everyone. You guys talk of Louisville as if they are world beaters. We beat them in a bowel a few years ago. I expect us to be back even with them in a couple years. You talk like we have no talent. I disagree. I really believe we will beat the 5 win estimate. If the QB is as good as suggested, which is not superstar but solidly good, I think it likely we win the usual 7 or 8 games.
But some of you guys wrote off any chance from the Basketball team making the tournament with 6 games to go. In my delusionally optimistic way I kept saying we had a chance. I actually thought we needed one more win in the ACC Tourney so even I was surprised at the end. Some of you guys must have been floored.

Three teams from Alabama in one season?
That’s the only down side I see to playing Alabama in 2015. I would love it.
I know the coaches like to schedule teams to give them recruiting help. It would probably be better to spread all that Alabama love over the course of several years, but like about every one reading this, I would take a game against Alabama about anytime we could get it. (because it will never be very often)

If we beat South Alabama, and Troy …. And Alabama (dreaming), could we claim the state championship without playing Auburn?

UNX can improve their cheating by picking a less obvious artificial curriculum, like maybe a BA in Computer Science. I’m still trying to figure that out. It has Science in the name, how do you make it a BA and not a BS.

But see, because we are engineers it’s why we understand why this cheating scandal is so heinous. It takes hard work by staff and students, selective recruiting and putting players on the bench to keep a team on the field the right way.
When you give players free grades, you bypass all those difficulties. We self disciplined ourselves after Valvano and cleaned up a messy program. We also went on a long dry spell. UNC should have learned from us and done it the right way. Instead, they saw us and figured out the easy solution is to just give grades and get that graduation rate and APR. No, I won’t let go and move on from this. None of UNC’s championships should count dating back what, at least a dozen years.
