Corchiani – Sr.
Pack85EEParticipantShould make Malik Newman think about a position just waiting for him with the Wolfpack.
Pack85EEParticipantMyers said it on a radio show. Poor writing.
Pack85EEParticipantErnie Myers thought this was likely of a radio show right after our tourney ended. The kid is 24 and only has so many years of pro ball a head of him. He probably won’t get drafted and a senior year would not necessarily get him there either. Even in Europe he will make more than I am now. So, not really a mistake for Trevor, it just sucks for us. This should keep the twins happy. More PT for them.

04/08/2015 at 4:23 PM in reply to: State Firmly Ranked in “Ridiculously Early” 2015/16 Top 25 Hoops Polls #84798Pack85EEParticipant“Next year could be the peak of Gott’s career.
Lacey will be gone and Cat goes pro. No recruits in sight for next year (except 2 longshot one-and-dones).”
Although I will certainly take a 5 star next year’s team does not have any real needs. I’m confident the following year he brings in a very good class. Not expecting a Kentucky or Duke group of 5 stars that can win it all as freshmen but several 4 stars that will replace and compliment what we have.
If he falls way back in his recruiting two years in a row then maybe Gott’s not the guy but for now I think he is. I have since his first solid recruiting class.Pack85EEParticipantFinal comments on Abu’s hand. Watching it close each time they showed it, one angle makes it look like he clearly was a few inches from the ball. It wasn’t needed but we should give Abu one more star for his performance. He was in the right spot, poised to tip the ball back in and did not move his hand forward unnecessarily. We are going to enjoy these bigs for a couple more years.
But we do need to get the next wave of recruits coming.
Pack85EEParticipantI believed in the every 9 year formula in 92, I even felt maybe in 2001 it would pop up again and 92 was just a miss. I had abandoned all hop by 2010. Maybe in 2019. I’m hopeful.
But great work Jigs. I think it will help me appreciate any success we have in the tourney and know that with each round beyond our predicted mean it’s just a matter of time – so enjoy. But I was on campus in 83 so I will always believe in the impossible.
Pack85EEParticipantNo finer whine than the whine from the whine and cheese crowd.
02/02/2015 at 12:21 PM in reply to: Saturday’s best & highlights of State’s win at Georgia Tech #72839Pack85EEParticipantSFN continues to be a tough crowd. I don’t understand someone saying they won’t watch the pack play and then takes time to spout off on a web forum. Just seems strange to me. I still support Gott. This team relies a lot on young guys.
Recruiting is how he will build this team and it looks like a real issue right now with 2015 a Zero. Gott’s first real class went out the door. Each had their reasons, Warren we were happy for, so we are only looking at two classes for Coach. I like the two classes and I like the transfers he supplemented the team with. I think most of us are frustrated because this team started to exceed expectations early and then fell back. If they finish strong and make the dance it will have been a good season. But we all want more next year. We want to start dominating and being firmly in the top 1/2, on the edge of top tier, until we can stay there. But just to be sure with the pulse of SFN, Are we OK with DD and down on Gott, because it changes so much, I’m not sure with you guys.
Pack85EEParticipantGO WOLFPACK, Frazier #4 RB in the nation. Can you tell us more about Olenga? Looks like limited experience, but almost unlimited promise. 6-5 250.
01/24/2015 at 5:50 PM in reply to: Fantastic Dave Doeren interview: Contrast in styles with Larry Fedora #71044Pack85EEParticipantI’ve been firmly in DD’s camp from the beginning, mainly because of his recruiting effort. That’s what will take us up the ladder. But it will take time. You have to be a solid top 40 team before you can get solid top 25 recruiting classes. He’s doing it the right way, though hard work, and demanding hard work from his coaches and players. He does seem to be a builder of men and that’s what we want. If this class finishes strong, that just helps speed up the process. Jumping back to recruiting, if Frasier comes, I would expect Hynes or Gallaspy to make a position change. Hynes could play the slot and run from the back field when you need the speed. Frasier seems to be the same type of back as Gallaspy but more nimble. If he is the same bruiser that Gallaspy is, maybe Reggie moves to linebacker. Or as suggested maybe he redshirts. Being in Greensboro I’m a big fan of Reggie. He can be a work horse back. Its hard to imagine him not becoming a go to guy.
Pack85EEParticipantGreywolf. There Is a reason. Dark visors are illegal at all school levels, so that refs can look into a players eyes when he has had his bell rung. That’s not stupid in any way. These kids need protection against playing with a concussion.
Pack85EEParticipantI just watched a quick highlight of the USF game. Sacked QB at End zone for a safety (intentional grounding). Stopped USF at goal line at end of game. 16-0 victory. Not much info there. If USF QB had not tried to throw ball on sack and just gone down, it would have been forward progress at the 1 yard line. My gut feeling. Maybe a bit better than Wake’s D. We bring our A game and we gonna win.
Pack85EEParticipantWell, if Thornton is bolting early, that opens up a spot, and a large need, for a running back. This guy has a year of limited college experience. Should we really pass on him?
Pack85EEParticipantI’m happy enough, we’re bowling with a legit shot at a win. I would not have given us much of a chance against Georgia, and the Belk Bowl can be in the conversation next year.
I would have liked a better name opponent. UCF is like playing ECU, not much to gain, a lot to lose, except they are not in state (bragging rights, recruiting).
And if we win 8, that was about the best any of us expected!12/05/2014 at 4:03 PM in reply to: Football Recruiting: Wrapping Up #Pack15 and a quick look at #Pack16 #64222Pack85EEParticipantI don’t remember Koren Robinson being an elite Receiver so much as just a very fast receiver, in the same vein as T.J. Graham who has found a home in the pros….So, you have to count T.J. Graham. NCSU has always had great receivers and I think that’s true of the O’Brian era and I like some of the guys we have now.
12/05/2014 at 3:46 PM in reply to: Football Recruiting: Committs Gallaspy & McGirt Earn 4th Star by Rivals #64220Pack85EEParticipantCorrection – we are ranked 45 nationally.
12/05/2014 at 3:44 PM in reply to: Football Recruiting: Committs Gallaspy & McGirt Earn 4th Star by Rivals #64219Pack85EEParticipant13 of 14 ACC does not mean much. 43 nationally is solid. It’s a smaller class for us so it is not skewed upwards by volume. The Star Average (2.94 for NCSU) may mean more than rank if you have the quantity of players you want. Wake is rated higher than us with 10 2stars. I would rather have our group than Wake or BC and our group looks even with Duke, Pitt and UVA. Too low a star average with a higher rated class means you are loading up with 2 stars and class size is large. Which means future recruiting classes will be hampered.
And we have 5 commits for 2016, earliest we have ever had that kind of success. This will be a small class too so we can be quite selective.
Pack85EEParticipantNothing like the memory of tying a record while scoring a meaningless touchdown against back ups while your team gets Beat Down by your hated rivals. Yea, I’d rather not.
Pack85EEParticipantDid anyone else notice that the 3rd quarter offense really sucked at least two games in a row. I seem to remember both games we had at least 3 3 and outs in a row. Against GT it destroyed any chance we had. We could do it against Wake and survive by just winning the punting battle, but I would like to see a turn around this week on that particular stat. Is the other team just making great halftime adjustments and we are not? Offense needs to be steady, productive and error free (or near error free).
Pack85EEParticipantRecruiting is everything and so I really like what Doeren is doing on that front.
The last time I looked at the Depth chart, we had three senior starters on Offense and Defense each. The two deep was maybe double that. That’s a lot of talent coming back. Of course one could say that good news/bad news, same players, how good can they be. But I think most agree the youth we have are pretty good and should be much better next year. I may be wrong but I think we will have a solid team next year. My expectations will certainly be higher than this year. If we suck next year – Yes DD would be on the hot seat if not gone, but we should not suck. But he should not be on the hot seat this year.
As to Wake, the home team wins this every year. It should not have been that way as I thought we were the better team going to Winston. Yes we should win and better win and there would be no excuses. But it could happen. It would take more than the usual amount of NC State $#it. And that I think is the key, Brissett must not turn the ball over. He has to just let the offense move the ball and rely on our kickers Wake stops us. We can’t let Wake score through freak things (turnovers and big defensive breakdowns) where get behind and start pressing. Just doing that should be easy against Wake but …it happens. If we take care of business without mistakes, we cover the spread.Pack85EEParticipantI had to come back to this. I didn’t think the 5th one would hold true. Too bad for Syracuse they called this 100% wrong. All five points did not hold true.
GO PACK!Pack85EEParticipanthe’s been pimping out these kids that absolutely do not belong any college anywhere
When you say this about one school’s players, it is really about every school’s players. We are all going after the same guys, especially in football where you need 85 or more. I think Sharpton brings up a good point. We all have been in college under intense pressure to learn the material and get the work done. Some semesters, many have dropped classes when we saw we were in trouble. It’s worse for these kids who put incredible time into their sport. But I think (I hope) most schools keep pushing them along to complete the course work (at a slower pace in-season) and advance towards a degree. Every person I have ever talked to who took classes at State and UNC said the classes at State were harder. So if our boys and make progress, UNC’s kids could also. UNC was just making it easy for them to opt out of the heavy work load and cruize. It would be hard for any young man who thinks he can’t do the work equal to his peers to say no to an eazy A. He missed a very valuable leason that he could have pushed forward and suceeded in life and that is probably the greatest travesty of this cheating system. There are some kids that do not belong (Chris W. for instance who has learned sucess late in life) but many more are kids who have not been pushed to study and learn. They really could if they tried. It might require remedial courses and they may need to stay away from engineering courses. But they can do it. Or Else there are over 180 schools cheating like hell. And we would be included.
Pack85EEParticipantOK, after reading all the comments, I just want to make sure, so we are not firing coach Gottfried this year? Just making sure because in the middle of his second year we were. He had no ability with his #6 in nation team. Then last year, he wasn’t getting it done. Oh but he slipped into the tourney. So now, with almost all his recruits and things being well established but still young, I’m just curious if he is getting a pass. Many comments above have him as a solid hero now. I’m just wondering where he will be in February.
As to Dorren, Recruiting is everything and freshmen don’t turn things around as fast as the do in Basketball. Just on recruiting alone, I would give Dorren a pass. And that would continnue unless his recruiting levels fell back to the level of TOB’s last 3 years. Because it’s true, DD can not win games with that level of recruiting.
I’m not sure who could. Sheridan had a future pro QB to help with his first year in Eric Kramer. And guys Sheridan was solid but he was not all that. His offense was very predictable. He was solid in the ACC because the ACC was barely the 5th best conference (at best). FSU came in and let us know the level of play NCSU and the ACC were at. We took 2nd in the conference those first two years, and FSU beat the crap out of us.Back to this team, how about that freshmen LB (Moore). So I am seeing two very good Fresh LBs on the team. I think the future abodes well. Our young receivers are awesome. The DBs are young and are getting better. Running backs, are strong and will be a better platoon next year. Things are looking up.
What was that about BC having a worse situation coming in. Only because future NFL QBs disguised the Wolfpacks sorry level of recruiting.
What was that again, NCSU has 25 freshmen on the 2 deep, BC has 16.
Do you understand how much depth that means we will have the next 3 years.I repeat, recruiting is everything. Yes, sometimes we could upset FSU, but we never were as solid as them through the season because we never had their level of players. DD is the best recruiter State has had since I have been following the Pack. Period.
