I agree on KK. If I recall he guaranteed one thing in his first presser. Our players will not quit. they will play hard, period. He has delivered so far on that promise. Hustle and hardwork can go along way, and its showing. I know we wont win every game, but proud of the whats being put on the floor every night. I haven’t said that in a long long time.
I hate Miami. There coach is one of the best in my opinion. He always has a solid team.
Pack1997ParticipantOnly in sports, is that true VA. In life sometimes losing, means winning. For example, the girl at the bar with the adams apple. You are too drunk to notice but fortunately some other schmuck goes home with “her”. You lost, but thats a good thing!
Pack1997ParticipantDon’t we want Duke and Clemson to keep winning as it helps our RPI? I don’t think many thought we would have 2 wins in the first 5 games. If we could win most of our home games I would be a very happy fan.
Pack1997ParticipantGreat effort by everyone. I thought KK was a great hire and he is showing why. However we have to remember GOTT did well his first season too. Enjoy the win but KK is still a wait and see. On the right track though!
Pack1997Participant13, I understand your concern about transfers. But what was KK to do, not have enough players? He brought in transfers that shouldn’t hurt his scholarship distribution and offers down the road. That, shows he was smart enough to try and fix his immediate roster issues without sacrificing the future. What any smart coach should do. He cannot make baskets for our players, and they miss plenty of wide open shots. Think about this, our best shooters are sitting on the bench currently waiting until next year to play. He has shooters coming in as well as players who can create off the dribble. While you coach those things over multiple seasons you cannot fix them in one season with the players on the current roster. Turning someone into a shooter and being able to create your own shot or beat someone off the dribble isn’t something has a quick fix.
Now one criticism of KK is the schedule hurt us in many ways. Are the players regressing or just not that good against extremely better competition than what they have played to date? At the same time I understand why a coach would schedule like this the first 2 or 3 years. If you are going to get whipped in conference play then you need some cupcakes to help with confidence etc.
Pack1997ParticipantI just dont see hw anyone could blame the coach. I am not saying he is great, but not many coaches could do anything with the current roster. As stated above, we had one of the top PGs in the country on our team last year and sucked. Lost our top 3 scorers and took grad transfers out the door just to have options on the roster. Anyone who expected better was reading the tea leaves wrong. Now I will see I am disappointed in Batts so far. I was under the impression he was a better player than he has shown. Don’t know if it is confidence or what. I do know we have solid players coming in next year and should be considerably more competitive. Follow that up with a solid class the next year and lack of talent wont be an issue.
I also find it funny we gave DD the benefit of the doubt for football for a few years, but KK hasnt even played a full ACC schedule and some want to get rid of him. Just Crazy
Pack1997ParticipantFor those who think this is a coaching issue, just wondering which of our players you think would start for other teams in the ACC? With Markell out I cannot name one.
Pack1997ParticipantI agree Wulf. It’s why ther eis such a dilemna for me when it comes to Freeman. He is a good defender but hurts us offensively. Since he is a senior, would it be better to play a younger player for the experience and take the lumps? Maybe we do that after a few ACC losses etc.
Pack1997ParticipantNot good when everyone in question has to give DNA samples.
Pack1997ParticipantNot knowing any details it could be a case of hanging with the wrong people. At least that’s my hope for his sake, and he wasnt involved to the point of doing anything. However, I am proud of KK for suspending him indefinitely until it works itself out. It is things like this where a new coach has to show the players the standards to which they will be held. It is KK program now not the players.
Pack1997ParticipantParity has been in college basketball for many seasons now. In some cases you have small schools with senior laden teams who have played together for a few seasons. Chemistry as well as men playing amongst boys evens the playing field. One or two matchup issues against a team can and does make a huge difference. I get where some of the folk on here are coming from with expecting to smoke smaller schools. Unfortunately, it isn’t the reality anymore in college basketball and hasn’t been for some time.
Pack1997ParticipantI suspect if you are giving up on Keatts then you probably didn’t like the hire to begin with. I think he has done a superb job of getting some talent on this team to help with the immediate need, but not sacrificed future years scholarships etc. Thats a tough balancing act. Also, you are only as good as the talent you have. What we have is a bunch of role players. Good enough to be ok, not good enough be truly competitive. If you have followed recruiting, you see a big jump in talent between this year and next. This year is to focus on style and system, build culture etc. He is clearly doing that, with his benching of Markell. Also lets not forget how bad we were last year, and have a little perspective.
Pack1997ParticipantIf you and Chop and say he is playing better then I am sure he is. The games I have watched this year, and it has been quite a few just none recent, Yurt was noticeably better. I just didn’t think he was someone you try to get the ball to. That was mainly due to the missed baskets around the rim. As a big man, you have to finish around the rim, period. If he is doing that now then thats great. My comments about fouls were mainly about the change in how games are played and ref’d when we hit ACC play. It’s night and day compared to out of conference. For example, UVA is allowed to foul at will and it is called good defense. But hey thats what you get when you ref according to tendencies.
Pack1997ParticipantI have not watched the last 2 games. 18 month old twins keep me from watching ever game. However I can break down Mickey Mouse Clubhouse like a champ. My biggest co ain’t against Yurt has been him missing open shots around the basket. If he is making those, then that’s great. But he won’t be a stud for us when we hit ACC play. Heck he will most likely be in foul trouble every game along with most of our bigs.
Pack1997Participant44 I disagree with Y7 comments. I believe he is a decent player, but he still has a long way to go. He misses wide open shots under the basket, and has a tough time with putting the ball on the floor.
Pack1997ParticipantNothing has changed my opinion of this team or coaching staff. Most good teams have a WTF game in out of conference, it happens. And we aren’t a good team. We have nights where we are good. But we are lucky to be average. We have no consistent 3 point shooters. We have one player that can create his own shot. We lose the rebounding war in almost every game. This isn’t a knock on the coaching staff as I think they have put these kids in the best position for them to succeed. Thats all you can ask of a coaching staff. Recruiting looks good for future years. Most of what is coming in can do the things we are lacking this year. Patience is what is required.
As for scheduling, we play in the toughest conference in the country. Why would we schedule more than or two tough opponent sin out of conference? Where is the benefit?
Pack1997ParticipantI was always a fan of PTs Bar and Grille in Wilmington. Best damn burger and fried you ever had. My understanding is they are franchising out now.
Pack1997ParticipantNellie’s Southern Restaurant in Belmont NC
In Winston I would go with QB Italian Slappy’s fried chicken, and Sweet Potatoes
Pack1997ParticipantPruitt from Bama is a solid choice. FSU went downhill under Jimbo because Pruitt left. Smart has been a solid hire to GA, think Pruitt will be in the same boat. SEC east is becoming the Saban disciple league.
Pack1997ParticipantPunisher is excellent on Netflix as well as Gifted on Fox. Someone told me if you can get through the first 30 minutes you will love Happy on Syfy. Haven’t tried it yet though.
Pack1997ParticipantI agree Rye. I don’t the extension was signed. It was offered but I think he was waiting on FSU and Jimbo thing to workout before he signed it. It’s why FSU was pushing Jimbo to hurry up and make a decision.
Pack1997Participantnot from 6-6 they won’t. Jury is still out on Taggart, but I think he is a solid hire for the Noles.
Pack1997ParticipantI finally agree with Grey!!!!!!!
Pack1997ParticipantBilas has us in his top 65 teams. Guess he is a fan of the effort we have showed thus far.
Pack1997ParticipantWhy would you want to coach FSU over VT, other than more money of course.
