08/05/2015 at 2:23 PM in reply to: Pack Picks Up Four Star SG/PF Maverick Rowan For 201547Sports’ seventh-ranked small forward and the 39th-best #87862Pack LeaderParticipant
LOVE the pickup…. but I wouldnt go as far as to say Mav is as good, or better, than Wood. Scott not only had one of the quickest/deadliest shots around, he also ran point for Marion his senior year. Watch some of his hold youtube highlight reels & he is banging 35′ jumpers with ease time after time. Not to mention SW was one of the best free throw shooters in ACC history. From what I read, Mav shot just over 70% from the strike…
I do think he will be more athletic & not as big of a defensive liability as SW, but the jury is still out on if he can hang with ACC competition right out of the gate. He needs some time in the gym, and with his late arrival dont expect too much improvement between now and first day of practice.
I did find it weird that he was quoted as saying he didnt know any of our current players. He knew about the opening on the wing with the loss of BSW & Lacey, but I would have thought he would get to know some of his teammates before commiting. Oh well.
Great job recruiting Gott!!!!
Pack LeaderParticipantIt is concerning. No freshmen for this year and I do not really hear anything.
I actually like Gotts gameplan as far as scholarship spacing. If you over recruit, kids get unhappy & you’re left with mass transfer within the program. We lost 2 scholarship players but replace BSW with Henderson immediately (upgrade). So what position do we need to fill? In todays play-now world, a worthy ACC-caliber player wont sit for 2 years for his spot to “open up”.
We are still in the hunt for two TOP players (Ingram & Newton) that we really dont need. If they come GREAT, if not, no big deal we have our squad in place. Lets not fill up open scholarships with mediocre talent just because have an opening.
Pack LeaderParticipantWish PW all the best in his future career!! We all know he has a good shot, not too sure what else he can bring but I’m sure many schools would love to have his skill set.
As for KW, it is imperative that we keep him on the squad. One of our strengths this year was the rotation of multiple big men, avoiding foul trouble & high minutes. I see KW fitting the Deshawn Painter roll from a few years ago. Everyone remembers how quickly our postgame went downhill the year following Painters transfer… I dont see a big difference here. Anya physically cant run 35mins a game nor can Freeman keep up offensively for 40mins.
WE MUST KEEP Washington for continued sucess next season…
Pack LeaderParticipantWe will find out what our team is really made of @Purdue & in Madison Square Garden.
Pack LeaderParticipantGood addition. In todays 1 & Done college basketball, experienced mature teams usually do well in March. I do wish he was a freshman last year, but I also wish I drove a Maserati. This squad can be competitive in the ACC for 2 years, without much fear of players jumping to the NBA.
WE NEED a top guard in this next years recruiting class. NEED.
Pack LeaderParticipantThis was posted on twitter about a week ago…
Pack LeaderParticipantMcMillan ($1)
Gannon ($2)
Thompson ($5)
Warren ($2)
Burleson ($5)Yeah I know I have 2 SFs… SO what.
Pack LeaderParticipantI know its the hometown guy in me, but I think the Hornets (Yes I said the Hornets) could really use TJ on their squad. Big Al is one of the top 5 big men in the NBA, Kemba is a true scorer, Henderson has game on both sides, Zeller really improved last half of the year & MKG is a lock down defender. Jesus McRoberts is the odd man out. Not knowing his height/weight off hand, I would wager TJ is close to the same size with twice the offensive game as him. Hell, you could even put him behind Henderson for a year to learn.
But we all know MJ will take a UNC guy, my prediction is he picks PJ…
Pack LeaderParticipantI was at the game on Friday, good night from Carlos… NOT great. Its easy to see the toll this trying season has been, especially on the “stars”. Our problem this season, we have 3 maybe 4 hitters a night on this team. Last season we had 6-7. BIG difference.
Heard a stat that we have lost 5of6 ACC series… thats a little embarassing.
04/08/2014 at 3:36 PM in reply to: TJ Warren declares for NBA draft; future of NC State basketball #50935Pack LeaderParticipantCONGRATS TJ, hopefully he can sneak into the top 10, last I heard he was estimated around 13th (Suns).
As for next year, I think Gott has done a GREAT job spacing ‘ships. Lewis transfer hurts, but not nearly as bad as Painters. At that time we had no backup to Deshawn other than DeThay (which we all know was a joke). I believe between Lee & Lacey they can share the backup PG roll, assuming ofcorse we miss on DEVONTE GRAHAM (WE WANT HIM!!!!)
Lastly, Anya earns 1st Team All-Defense if he gets to 280 by opening day.
Pack LeaderParticipantGood hire by UNCW… Theres no excuse for that program not to be competitive.
I have always viewed ASU as a glass half-empty kinda school anyway. D2 school/program that views themself as D1. Beat Michigan once and one might get convinced football started in Boone…
No downtown, no nightlife, zero professional sports locally… Hard to get top talent to move there…
Pack LeaderParticipantHis pregame planning defensively would be sorely missed but I’m too smart to know hes too good of a coach not to get good offers.
Not so sure there isnt a glass ceiling in Boone for basketball, hard to get top talent to spend 7months in the snow… IMO if he waits, a better job will come up when we have a fantastic year (ie next season?)

03/26/2014 at 8:39 AM in reply to: National Media Outlets Say “TJ Warren To The NBA” But TJ Says “Undecided” #49606Pack LeaderParticipantParticularly interested the transfer from Alabama, Lacey. What is his position and what is outlook?
I agree, he has the potential (on paper) to step in to our potential SF whole when/if TJ jumps. My sources say he has a better outside shot than most on the team, which could be refreshing.
One of the Martin twins should beable to give fill in minutes aswell. I actually have high hopes for next year even with a TJ loss.
Pack LeaderParticipantHuge upgrade.
I have always thought of Buzz as a ‘hate him if hes not on our side’ type of guy.
Pack LeaderParticipantAll aboard the Wolfpack bandwagon… caugh caugh ESPN. Two weeks ago it was nearly impossible to make the big dance, now some ‘experts’ are pick State to go to the Sweet16. Oh the irony
Pack LeaderParticipantIf it HAS to go to NYC, I would much rather have the Barclays….. What I dont want is to become the new Big East in the Garden. NO THANK YOU.
New ACC – New Venue.
Pack LeaderParticipantThis was also easily Vandy’s best game in months.
Totally agree, I even noticed once him jumping up & down for the ball when they ran zone against us. Very active. Will need the same thing again tonight vs a strong 40mins of zone.
03/11/2014 at 8:25 AM in reply to: Is TJ Warren the best basketball player we\'ve had since David Thompson? #45238Pack LeaderParticipantMaybe Im alone on this (or maybe I’m just too young to remember the greats like DT, Carr or Shakelford) but I thought Todd Fuller was one of the more complete big men we have seen come through. While with NC State, he led the ACC in scoring during his senior year with 20.9 ppg and 9.9 rpg. He was an Academic All-American, and declined to accept a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford in order to play professional basketball. He was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude in 1996 with a bachelor of science in applied mathematics from NC State. Really just an all around great guy…
Pack LeaderParticipantGreat win last night, free throws were the key. I was happy Washington got more mintues, he earned them over the last few games. I thought Barber was great, even through his little spell of turnovers. I agree with BJD, I wish he would keep his man honest using a nice 15′ jumper now & again. Freshman PGs will ALWAYS be inconsistant, but I like how Gott handled the ‘benching’ (considering he saved us at the end of the game, I dont really consider him benched).
BIG game at home Saturday vs Virginia. BIG.
Pack LeaderParticipantLove the new layout. THANKS for all your hardwork!!!!
Pack LeaderParticipant“And I wouldn’t call the front court thin – Caleb and Cody Martin, Beejay Anya, Kyle Washington, Lennard Freeman, and Abu. That is six solid front court guys in 2014. I like it!!”
I have been a State fan too long to drink that kool-aid. The Martin twins are SF’s (6’6″ 180lbs) so dont count on them helping quickly downlow. Freeman was an unranked 3star recruit, so obvioulsy he will need time to devlop/mature before he can compete at a HIGH level. That leaves Anya, Washington & incoming freshman Abu.
I’m not saying this roation cant work, but we would be one injury away from TROUBLE.
KEEP RECRUITING…
Note: I do believe Trevor Lacey is primed for a HUGE year in 2014
Pack LeaderParticipantrtpack24- I dont see why we would stop recruiting Clark. He is a 4star local boy who would add depth to an already thin frontcourt. Now I have never seen him play, but one would think he could add 15-25lbs as a freshman in college (which would put him at 6’8 225lbs). I say keep recruiting…
Pack LeaderParticipantHUGE commitment!!!
Eight top 100 recruits in three years… #InGottWeTrust
