Do the big $$s that it is assumed Marshall wants/needs take him off the list. He’s at 3.3 now, is letting him turn down 4.2-4.5 just not an option?
It is beyond my belief that there is a need to hit the panic button and hire the floor candidate in the next 120 hours. If that’s where we are then there are people at AD and above that are way overpaid!
OutWestWolfParticipantWith zero inside knowledge, I don’t understand why the prevailing school of thought seems to be – Miller not interested and its onto to Keats. Where’s the f*&$%#g middle ground?
Either way if Keats ends up on the payroll I will without doubt hope he kicks ass, regardless of what I thought of the hire. Maybe he is the man! That mindset will go for 2 years then a 3rd year of wondering why and then we can go through three more years of this.
Unequivocally, the people in charge should get serious, stop rolling the dice and pay one of the top three candidates (Keats should NOT be in that list) enough to make them come to Raleigh with a smile.
OutWestWolfParticipant^
yep – he should be last option – likely Moton should be higher on the listOutWestWolfParticipantGott’s crew this year pretty much ever
Fair enough – but we’re talking 2 years at UNCW – is it fair to say that that’s not aiming high?
OutWestWolfParticipantto be fair the UNCW group looked better coached than Gott’s crew this year. But, that’s it we’re ready for Keats. If that’s the case I hope we got at least one more behind the scenes no than Miller.
OutWestWolfParticipantyes – I was wondering who is the Steve Lavin of this NCSU coaching search. Wow, is it Keats?
OutWestWolfParticipantup
OutWestWolfParticipantmaybe UW will suck Crean
OutWestWolfParticipantyep – Virginia back in – they have to rebound on the defensive end!
OutWestWolfParticipantIndeed, UW fans are not happy with Romar – but the tolerance out here for Bball obscurity is immense relative to anything back east or in LA&Zona. Romar somehow remains a good recuiter but the D1 coaching just ain’t there. He has had more than two of the type of seasons Gott had this year. Not much to say for the some of the coaching products that have Westwood Village connections. Seems to be very little chatter about Romar staying or going, I think everyone is blinded by the promise of fall-winter sports.
OutWestWolfParticipantWithout going into details, some of it is from the premium sites, who in the past typically have had good track records.
And while I detest Jeff Goodman, he does know people – the Millers specifically – and while he likes to troll, he can’t afford to get egg on his face either. So when he says flat out that Archie isn’t happening, and that’s consistent with what various other folks who have good sources usually are saying….
Fair enough. But for sure modern day reporters including the sports variety let egg roll off there face like the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin are greased teflon. They live by say/write it in the moment forget about it later, there’ll be something else to say in that moment.
OutWestWolfParticipant^ need to know just a bit more specifics on what/where this “online chatter” comes from. Is it the general negativity coming from the sports writers who fling crap no matter what? Or online chatter of a different sort? don’t need gory details just need to know if it is something different from the negativity of the paid trolls masquerading as writers/commentators.
sincerely curious

I’m tired of “making the tournament” being the bellwether of a good season.
Absolutely, it is completely lazy metric to berate a fan base with. In my opinion the metric is easy:
NC State should be competitive every night against any team in the country! If MG had done that he would not be going anywhere. LR was light years from it (not even in swinging the bat territory), HS couldn’t do it (he went to the tournament some, but could not coach a team that was competitive everynight), SL couldn’t do it, and now MG has certainly shown he’s not capable of it.Until someone is hired that can coach a squad to be comptetive every night regardless of the opponent we must be patient and keep hiring. It is after all the basis of why you play the game. It was why V was successful at NC State.
This metric does not put any requirement on championships. I believe if it is met those will eventually come.
OutWestWolfParticipantthe weather is stunning out here next to the Salish Sea today so I must have nothing else to bi#*h about but …
Clearly I missed what Gott did or said to dickie-cheese cause:
‘Eight ACC teams in Dickie V’s projected NCAA tourney’
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/17961093/acc-teams-dominate-dickie-v-projected-ncaa-tournament-fieldLet me spoil it for you – WolfPack aren’t in the 8 he listed
Field of 68 includes eight ACC teams and 2017 Pack squad doesn’t make it in (I for one don’t buy it), seems downright disrepectful to Gott and and his coaching staff
I guess time will tell
OutWestWolfParticipantApparently coaches don’t expect much from us. Not a single vote. 11 other ACC teams received votes. NCSU not a single one.
http://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/basketball-men/polls/coaches-poll/2016/1/it does seem odd that the polls (especially one done by program votes) can’t place the Pack squad in 25. It has to be that the overall picture on the Pack is just an “‘unknown’ wildcard” because there is absolutely no denying the accumulation of talent.
I’m with the previous posters who point to defense. If this group motivates to play both ends of the floor there will be some fun nights come March and …
OutWestWolfParticipantIf he gets serious about certain aspects of his life he’ll make a Pro roster. He will certainly have to pay some more dues to get there, and those are likely to come in a less glamorous situation than D1 saturdays.
Good-luck Shadrach, learn and move forward.
It was not a pretty or easy call for DD to have to make on what was from some angles a petty situation, but the right one.
OutWestWolfParticipantat the very top of your list is the following:
– Certain streaks at certain parts of the year
I will assume you meant that to be serious, but that being your first stat does appear to make your statement that I challenged seem disingenuous and for the purpose of argument alone. Let’s just say your “statistically” based case started very thinly. I have no intentions of going further with this, because I don’t want to be disprepectful to someone such as Lowe who has indeed done a tremendous amount for NC State over the years.

I could gin together that made SL look like a competent coach just as easily as I could …
Go for it, would be an interesting one. I certainly love SL, but I’ll take the the Pepsi Challenge on that set of stats any day.
OutWestWolfParticipantCongratulations Mr. Kirk.
I think you made a great decision, NC State and Raleigh are excellent places to live, study, and play basketball!
04/29/2015 at 10:27 AM in reply to: The last 24 hours haven’t been stellar for Mark Gottfried #85870OutWestWolfParticipantI would say that Gottfried had a very normal 24 hours in what is currently the landscape in D1 BB. And, the fact is the title is loaded with other negative insinuations based on the “loss” of a 5 start recruit and some competition over another. And, I think some of the readership here thought that a silly premise and felt compelled to call out what is a DIVISIVE headline.
Perhaps what your getting at is there is just no space on this site for calling someone out whose got a quick trigger to bash the leadership.
OutWestWolfParticipantThe day/s that Kintucky had 7 and Duke had 3 declare for the draft, not even a small part of Ingram was ours. Can’t say I see where him choosing Duke in the last 24 hours is all that big a deal for the Pack. So do kind of understand the headline as an irritant.
And, good on Ingram for choosing K instead of that pandering jackal in an expensive suit. I didn’t like Calamari well prior to his cozying-up to and fueling big-blue nation’s bloated sense of whatever.
In a perfect world Mark Cuban would hire Cal to goto Dallas (they deserve one another) and the honorable Herb would make his long time homecoming to UK.
OutWestWolfParticipantWow! If you want to get a warm and fuzzy feeling about the Pack fanbase, just go read the comments list from the average Kintucky crowd. The list of descriptors you can apply to that crowd ain’t pretty.
OutWestWolfParticipantIf your an athletic kid with a 3 star skill set, that apparently is on the rise enough to get the attention he’s already received and now Calamari, the likelihood that Gott recruits over you is probably thin (I’d venture to say VERY thin). It is a foregone conclusion at Kintucky. You’d better not need the freshman year to develop cause that position will have multiple 5 stars looking and some coming your sophomore year.
If the kid makes a pros and cons list he could definitely populate both fields for both institutions. I’d go w NC State on this, but at times I do tend to lean towards risk adverse side of things.
Good luck to the kid, sometimes options are brutal.
OutWestWolfParticipantpa44 is a troll, or is quite simply just a miserable being. Does that responder really offer anything to the site. Convinced its a Carolina troll, unless some of the site admin actually know who it is.
Too bad I didn’t pass up the bait this time.
